They apparently started working on 5 before 4 was even out of the door, around 2007. Which means they've probably been working on 6 since 2012 at the latest.

No, Sam Houser (?) said they started development (brainstorming may have been before that) for GTA5 around the time TBOGT was almost done Development, plus you can tell from the buglogs that development properly started in 2009. Either way, different times, different measures, so far all I've heard leakers and others talking about is that GTA6 started development a while after GTAV came out, brainstorming may have been floating around after GTAV came out but then The Benz thing happened, who knows what happened there.

plus there's this

"Weve got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do, Rockstar president The Benz told Develop. We dont know what GTA 6 will be, but weve got some ideas."

ign.com/articles/2013/10/03/gta-6-and-beyond-rockstar-has-45-years-worth-of-ideas

They've said they start working on the map before the plot. Then build the plot based on what they come up with. Which means they don't need an idea for the story for GTA 6 when they start on the location.

Rockstar Games directly or indirectly through parent company Take-Two Interactive should look at poach them great talents over at CD Projekt RED for future open world projects mainly GTA and Red Dead installments. I will even say buy but then at $1 billion that company is already overpriced (well worth due to Witcher 3 success).

Ok? What are you trying to say? They also need ideas for location.

That so-called "leaked map" isn't the actual map... (Just my opinion) It looks fan made with a bunch of random town names and some we've already seen in the first Red Dead Redemption. I highly doubt we'll be visiting almost the entire map of Red Dead Redemption (excluding Mexico) in Red Dead Redemption 2. That would be a bit disappointing in my opinion. We want new locations. Been there done that with the other locations in Red Dead Redemption.

I mean, hey, if it is (99% sure it's not) than ok but until then I'm taking that "leaked map" with a pinch of salt.

I'll never 100% believe it's either real or fake until we see something else to compare it to, but if it is real I'd be happy as Tall Trees area with Manzanita Post will be back! Loved that place. Since it takes a longer time to travel across since we only have horses I'm sure it'll seem huge as well.

Oh, I'm with you. But it'll be just disappointing if it's the same rehashed area just adapted for Red Dead Redemption 2. Red Dead Redemption had great locations but seeing them return in Red Dead Redemption 2 would be a let down. It'll be great to see NEW locations, towns, woods, etc...

How about an even more vast area smililar to Tall Trees (but just named something else) but teeming with even more wildlife, locals in a different area rather than Manzanita Post (one of my personal favs in Red Dead Redemption by the way :))

Hm? You might have looked at the wrong leak or the one that showed how RDRs map connects to the leaked one because the leaked map just featured a bit of the Eastern portion of RDR and the rest of it was new being inspired by Colorado and Louisiana.

There's nothing to prove or disprove the map but if it was real I'd personally happy just because of being able to explore Rockstar's versions of those places and the possible story implications of the Dakota territories and Indian Wars.

Impossible to say with absolute certainty if it's fake or legit, for obvious reasons. It's a pretty major thing to leak out - the GTA V leaks of 3 protags and Los Santos were words only, where as this is an actual picture of the full map.

I'm not convinced with it my self, I think the scale is out of whack to be honest. You can clearly make out the streets of New Bordeaux but if you slapped those streets over one of the areas in the map such as a field, or particularly the mountain looking regions, it all starts to look a bit small - and the trailer showed off some very long draw distances with no clear region or biome breaks which dominate the leaked map, breaking up the regions in a very blunt way with rivers - which is fan-made map 101 and something you never see in a real video game world. Prepared to eat my words over it, but we'll see.

A gun cocks, the R* logo, a insane score plays as the gameplay reveal rolls...crowd goes ballistic! Just a E3 prevision

The huge E3 auditorium goes silent, as all the screens fade to black ...

A gun cocks, the deep red R* logo fades in, full screen.

Anticipatory crowd roar rises, reaching a crescendo as the R* logo is replaced by a macro closeup of a gloved hand, side view of the hand holding the cocked six-shooter, silhouetted by a backdrop of big sky, and slowly wafting waves of grain. At the same time, an insane, plaintive western harmonica chord builds. The crowd is apesh*t with ecstasy. The trigger finger pulls ...

And the camera pans out to reveal a GTA Online character in western clothing, a title card comes up revealing GTA Online: Outlaw Adventures. Cue riot.

I too believe the scaling is "out of whack" (just look at all the clutter in some regions not that it means anything but it just looks whacky but of course some people will get a little bit overboard with just because of the vast area it shows). But yeah, we'll see... Speculation is good and all but I'm not buying that as "the actual map".

I'll face the facts if it really is the map when the game actually drops but until then I'm not getting my hopes up over it.

If it is the real map I think it's way too populated for my taste. The frontier didn't have dozens of towns, farms, ranches, trading posts, etc. so close to each other.

RDR was realistic in that regard because of the expansive swathes of open prairies and deserts which made it feel like it was a real world, not just a playground with lots of stuff built for the player. When you got to somewhere like Armadillo or Chuparosa it was special, not just another town like one you past a minute ago.

On another note; Am i the only one hoping the leaked map is a fake or rough copy perhaps? Granted it might be slightly bigger, but i would like to see R* really stand on the notion of a "Huge sprawling open world" i wont mind those extra long rides taking in the beautiful world of rdr2 at all.

It's unquestionably fake. No way something that big would get leaked and not get shut down hard. And none of the locations seen in the trailer really have any analogue in the map. Not only that, there's no reason to believe it's real other than "I want to believe"

I'd put money on it being fanmade.

It's not tho, Hugh Langley's Inside Source confirmed it. You know....The guy that told us when the RDR2 trailer was coming and GTA 6 beginning production. Maybe not a finished version of it but very real.

Plus with Dutch's Gang being a part of RDR2, West Elizabeth has to be within the game as that was pretty much where they operated out of. Seeing that John had never been to Armadillo, Tumbleweed, Fort Mercer or any of the places in RDR we can assume he's journeyed east or north. Just because you don't like how the map is based on size or whatever this is the real deal, lots of historical meaning behind some of the locations listed as well.

Only reason why anyone is skeptical is because of the New Bordeaux part and much bigger things have leaked before...

You can IP ban me if it's real, that's how confident I am it isn't.Don't do it.

I'm totally confident its real due to the similarities in the trailer, techradar outright co firming its authenticity, and how detailed and well thought out it is

I'm sure boats or swimming will be allowed in RDR2 this time, the water in GTA V was really well designed.

Love these little finds! Nice one Spider!

I don't think it's being delayed. The lack of news is just timing on their part i believe due to several factors including a full 2 quarters for 2017 that is occupying the majority of everyone's time and thoughts.

That's why E3 makes so much sense to reveal more because it's the summer lull and everyone is looking towards to the future releases in the fall and winter.

Good find spider vice! If it is delayed, then I'll be sure R* delayed it to give more support for GTAO. Because, as you've said, its really inexcusable

I get that but it's hardly a picture of them sitting around a computer and sni**ering at people on forums like GTAF when lambasting over no news etc like some think. These things with marketing and news are all part of a plan and schedule months in advance, some of which involving monetary contracts, often making it not feasible or possible to divulge details because of all the secondary red tape and deals in place.

I again fully believe that releasing news or anything prior to May/June is futile and perhaps what they see too given how busy Jan to May has been and RDR2 has hardly been a topic of conversation save for Rockstar themes or oriented message boards. Come June and onwards, that will change when we all look towards the latter half of the year and it's releases.

Normal, Friendly and Hardcore Free Roam lobbies should be available from the start hopefully.

But, I have a feeling this time around we'll be only seeing a Normal and Hardcore Free Roam.

I hear ya! The anticipation is both frustrating and kind of exciting all together. The wait with ALL OF YOU GUYS AND GALS ON HERE whether we agree or disagree on certain things is still fun and makes the wait tolerable.

This had been confirmed before via other portfolios and resumes, there's a few more in the Rumour Mill thread from before the game was announced, that they were working on an unannounced project since 2013 in some cases, so they're definitely doing RDR2 for a while.

Interesting how one is from North and has being doing the lighting since 2014 and the other was Toronto and conceptual art for nearly 2 years. Senior positions too.

Seems like this may not have been in active development as long as I thought anyway and seemingly went into full gear early 2014 after GTAV shipped. So just over 3 years give or take.

Also interesting that Jeff Harm guy or whoever never changed his resume or CV so we may of been off on that one, or at least he's not involved with anything recent?

Both the ones I've shown have quit their positions. RDR2's development likely kicked off in 2013, if you remember all the stuff that was found in the Rumour Mill thread last year. Concept art is made throughout the whole development process so that's not really a way to gauge how far in development it is. Also, because this is a Rockstar Studios title, there's going to be many people from all studios doing something.

The one doing the lighting since 2014 is only doing so since 2014 because that's when he got into Rockstar.

Even during early development when they only have a small team working on it that still could be quite a lot of people. They're a massive developer these days, so a small team for them could very well be 100+ people.

1.1k employees at Rockstar and it studios, another 1.5k at 2K Group, 170 at Social Point, and 100-200 at their parent company Take-Two Interactive. It my estimate based on T2's headcount of 2.9k employees as of 2016.

Note-Edit: At Rockstar, I guess there are multiple projects across each studios in different form of developments.
