Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

Will trailer 2 give us an idea of who the characters are and what the main story is about without spoiling much. Maybe they also sprinkle in some details about Red Dead Online or whatever they are planning for multiplayer

Absolutely. Recall back to RDRs trailers where the second one was titled "My name is John Marston" as it introduced us to the character and some of the NPCs. Or even look at GTAIV: the first trailer was just footage of the city and world showing the jump of GTA from its previous iteration to the newest piece of hardware and what it can achieve, just like RDR2s announcement, and then subsequent trailers introduced the characters.

 

I agree that online will be mentioned or the focus of another trailer especially if they do the gameplay series again.

It doesn't have to, no. It can suffer for sure, but given the time this game has been in development (5 years give or take) and the size of team that made it (1000+ more than likely) they could very comfortably do justice to both the single player and online modes.

I was reading through some old Asked & Answereds and I love how in 2012 they basically confirmed twice there was something being done about a new RDR/new game. WHich also confirms the employee listings last year albeit most said 2013.

2015. Jesus. Makes you think what went wrong - we only finally got something at the very end of 2016. Did The Benz departure and the drama that followed really make big of an impact or was it something else?

Rockstar are known for dropping projects a lot, so it could be that they were making something else in the meantime which delayed everything else, or maybe GTA V's delay and its next-gen incarnation also affected things (maybe GTAV NG's trees seen in the trailer are from RDR2 and not the other way around! ). We do have however confirmation that RDR2 was delayed internally at least once.

doesnt seem plausible since RDR2 was the furthest in its development at that point. What other game could they have announced that would be released before RDR2 was even announced?

Im pretty sure RDR2 was supposed to be announced sooner

Yea I agree with Dee, I think RDR2 was their next big project. My guess is they had a combination of development turbulence as per with Rockstar, and the fallout with The Benz leaving. Doesn't seem too unlikely that something like that could have pushed their schedule back by 8-12 months.

He took the "sabbatical" in 2014 and then couldn't get in Rockstar's offices ever again.

It wasn't just him who left during that period either, there was more comings and goings than usual for Rockstar which is what makes me think it impacted their schedule quite a bit.

Seemed like Rockstar had to put all forces and resources on debugging the heists; they were so difficult.
