Anticipation yea, hype no. Hype was watching the first trailer, but now the thirst is getting REAL! something has to happen, it's been long enough if u ask me. A date to release info is probably already set in stone already but ffs. We are going to have to fight the good fight and be strong until..

R* might want to pull off another weekend surprise. You still remember how they first teased RDR2 on a Sunday?

This makes so much sense! This next sunday will be 16, monday 17, tuesday 18 and thursday 20. Exactly like october of last year.

Do they think this is building hype? This is making anxious fans infuriated and mildly interested fans just forget about it.

if I was a community manager or PR at Rockstar Games, I would see:

  • 238+ Pages on this thread and a dedicated section on GTA forums.
  • If I browse through Social Media for RDR2 I would not be disappointed by the amount of discussions surrounding RDR2 (Twitter alone is always busy)
  • There are endless amounts of other dedicated RDR2 Forums online
  • I can type RDR2 on Youtube and find loads of videos regarding RDR2 (mainly from Legacy but he still gets views)
  • I can look at the numbers of Pre-orders
  • etc. etc.

And all this is because of a 1 min video and an artwork. now imagine when R* start releasing more information. EVERYONE is dying for RDR2 news right now, but forgetting it, that is not going to happen anytime soon.

If I'm going to be honest, I do think R* do take full of advantage of their fans because R* know that their fans are willing to wait. It's a love/ hate relationship, fans may criticize them now but will love them after getting information.

It's true, their technique does win at the end of the day, the moment something new drops all will be forgotten and we'll all be jumping for joy. It's just that we always moan about communication and we always would enjoy just a little bit more from them, but the ball is in their court whether they will give it so rabid fans like us who talk about it every day end up feeling dejected when waiting for months on end. It's in these quiet times that their silence is the most deafening, and always leads us to ask the same old questions.

I don't know what made them decide that "less is more" regarding information but they weren't always like this. If I had to guess I think that announcing GTA V too early and the delays really f*cked them up pretty good. Doing some research and you can see that R* released loads of GTA IV and RDR1 content before the games were released. When GTA V was announced in 2011 barely anyone was interested in Max Payne 3, the talking point was GTA V and that must of cost R* a pretty penny. since then times have changed

It's laziness, and more than a little contempt for their fan base.

I remember the Boston bombings, there was a delay and everyone blamed Rockstar. This community can be crazy at times.

We need to be patient.

Every major developer adopts the "less is more" strategy when promoting their games when they can. Developers are gamers too and they know deep down gamers want to know as little as possible when going into a game. No one wants spoilers, everyone wants surprises. That's what makes a good game special. When you see a new IP launched you'll often see them go mad with gameplay videos but they reveal less for the sequels. Instead of relying on the hype of players knowing what they can do they instead rely on players hyping up what they think they can do in-game - because a lot of what they know is already established (it being a sequel and all). It works and it works well and Rockstar are not the only developer who do it. It's done in other industries too.

It has nothing to do with laziness and to suggest it does is pretty naive.

6 months since the first trailer and around 6 months til release, marketing should start any time now...

They are going to reveal probably around 3 trailers and previews.

We don't want to know everything. They are going to release another trailer and more info regardless. We just want it now! Or for it to start now. That's not asking much.

Lots to look forward to, the immersive Old West in Singleplayer.

And of course Red Dead Online. I made a concept image of what it could look like (from Magnificent Seven)

Seeing something new about an upcoming R* game is like finding the Holy Grail.

I damn near sh*t my pants when I seen them change their logo to Red.

It was the same for GTA V.

A Story, maybe a short trailer for each possible protag similar to gtav, possibly a Online, official Gameplay, tv spot. They go big on adverts

The good old tactic of replacing the whole website with an Untitled-2.png file with the GTA V logo! Memories.

So lemme understand this. They justify total info blackout by saying that fans don't want spoilers, and yet in the last two months before game release they blast out trailers, gameplay, screenshots, interviews, magazine covers, and spoil it all anyway.

They're just being assholes to their dedicated fans.

They justify total info black out because the game doesn't even have a release date. Of course as they get closer to the actual date they're gonna ramp up their advertising. It is nothing unusual in any industry. They spoil no where near as much as other developers do for their games and post release (or when we're not all grinding our teeth waiting for anything) fans will almost always be grateful that they didn't spoil X/Y/Z. You can bet once they start advertising and promoting that the complaints about the lack of information and claims of lazyness or arrogance will be gone completely.

It also needs to be said that this is nothing new for Rockstar. They've been this way for a long, long time now and we put up with it then and we'll put up with it now. It's a bit silly to call them lazy or arseholes about it.

I don't think they are lazy or assholes for their silence, they are my favourite developer after all and we wouldn't be following them so religiously if they weren't and I know all this is worth it in the end, but I do still find it hard to think of a good reason why we can't see a few screenshots or have some artworks at this stage. They don't contain spoilers, it's not for share holders, it's not to create hype or to remind us the game exists, they're just for us to enjoy while we wait.

I do agree completely with that - I'm not a fan of developers announcing a game and having 6 months of complete silence but I can understand them not doing a lot 12-6 months from launch. Though, ideally we wouldn't even know the game is coming until 6 months before release, but for some reason Rockstar announced it a year early knowing they'd have this blackout. We're are starting to see more of it these days, but I do wish we saw the 6 month wait between announced and release more often.

I've been a GTA Forum member since 2004 about 2 weeks after GTA San Andreas came out so I know I'm not one of them. This was on my very first original account back in the day that I forgot my email address to. But I completely agree with your post! :)

I was so hoping you could transparent one character in that screen to make him seem like he was in "Passive Mode" for sh*ts and giggles. :D Edited by TheOriginalGunslinger
