Red Dead Redemption 2: Discussion & Speculation (Part 1)

That whole argument is moot if Rockstar chooses to be more secret about it, which I'm sure they might. You don't get teasers from GI for other big games either, they can just plop the cover with RDR2 and everyone will go nuts either way. Regardless, I do think we'll be getting some more specifics before we see a GI cover/site previews, but it shouldn't be too long until then. GI only teased it because Rockstar had already said in another post there was plenty to come "next month".

If RDR2 gets no news in March to early April, then I would say that it will be the time to start worrying of an incoming delay, a scenario that's possible, but I don't see it happening.

the best game magazine cover ever

This one is hard to beat.

Shame about the Zelda Cover story, any new bit of RDR2 information would've bee enough for me

Alot of Great Games coming from Rockstar, 2K, and Social Points from now and 2021. Bring on the Take-Two Interactive conference call!

Did think it might be Zelda, there wasn't that much info out there considering it was a month away. Thought a Nintendo Switch montage cover would be more likely though. Ah well. Same time next month ladies and gents?

Terrible. The game comes out in 3 weeks. Why make that your cover?

It's a shame about it not being Red Dead Related, 2 much anticipation. The Take2 conference is at 4:30 pm EST (9:30 pm GMT). I wonder what T2 will write about Rockstar. Probably the usual though like, GTA V has reached (Insert millions here) number of sales and are busy working on projects like future games and GTA Online and so and so forth.

May is still in time if the game releases in October. Rockstar can have an info blow out in just a few months. 5-6 months is plenty time for loads of marketing and previews. Especially if it releases in November instead of October (that's still Fall ;) )

BTW: It's hardly GI's fault the cover isn't RDR2, I mean, Rockstar needs to tell them the deets/invite them for the preview event :p

That's possible, but why wait another month? It comes to mind that there should be something concrete about the game's exact release date before T2 closes their 2017 in an early May conference. They can handle it the way they want, but I admit that I will be disappointed if we don't get news within the next 8 weeks. Browsing the forums can get boring and frustrating with nothing new to discuss, you know.

Oh man... Zelda again?

Well, so what next? E3?

No. April's cover is sure to be it. Trust me.

We'll probably get screens this month and thats all

April makes more sense for an information blowout, assuming a release date in October

6 month marketing cycles are pretty common in the industry

April's cover I'll wager will be the new Batman game since the leak said it'll be revealed on March 7th or sometime around there, and every Batman game has been revealed/announced with a GI cover.

Still a bummer the cover is Zelda as the game is out in 3 weeks and already has so much overexposure and coverage. Oh well, I mean every week and month that passes just gets closer to release when we're potentially 7 months away now from the earliest release month.

How about no Game Informer cover story for RDR2? it's not necessary after all and R* doesn't need to even touch it in order to market their own game. Hell, GI needs R* so that they get to sell more copies of the magazine as more people would be interested to get a first hand reading through the first details (that special feeling). I'm not sure how it works, but would R* pay something to the publishing company of GI in order to have the game on the cover? or is it the other way around where GI would pay to R* when they get invited for an exclusive preview demo? It may go both ways, but I don't know.

Redemption didn't get a GI cover in 2009, but the game was practically not well known or much trusted by R* itself to be a big thing. I remember T2 being really surprised how successful the game was in terms of sales and they said that it exceeded their expectations. It seemed like if they through it won't attract the interest of many, so it was kept under the radar compared to how they handled an established title like GTA IV. The situation should be different now since Red Dead Redemption brand has grown substantially and has become a great deal in the the whole industry, inspiring many developers. The conclusion is that there will be a GI cover simply because of its established and respected title.

Nope. I'm willing to b et $50 it'll be Red Dead. Wanna make that bet?

Its gonna get one. Its perfect for R* and GI. Easy and cheap marketing that also builds hype and releases a massive amount of info. And for GI its more copies for them

I'm not sure how the deals work out or if monetary contracts are involved but ultimately it benefits both parties since a GI story is advertising your product to the masses where the magazine is among the top 10 circulated in the US and obviously having your parent company be GameStop would fuel more preorders. I mean you can't buy issues of the magazine except at GameStop stores. It's not like GTAV needed a cover story either given the anticipation and hype when it did drop but Rockstar having a history with the publication did it anyway.

I think we could of gotten a RDR cover but at the time when the game got announced, 2 months later the publication ran another Rockstar game instead in June 2009 - Max Payne 3. So I'm confident we'll get one for RDR2...I just don't know when and I don't think it will be next month's given the publication's history with WB Interactive and the announcement coming the first week of March.

Off Topic: T2 Interactive should buyout Zenimax and make Bethesda their 3rd/4th label. Imagine the IPs owned by one company. They will be "Konami of North America" (even though T2 is already small and powerful like Konami).

Note: It still early, T2 Interactive just spend $250 million last week.

(sorry mods 😊)

What would be the point of that?

Take-Two aren't that rich. Zenimax are about as big as them these days. The only ones who could possibly afford a buy out of that scale would be EA or Acti Blizzard.

They just spend $75 million in stock funding their lastest buy plus they have $1.3 billion in cash coupled with a market capitalization of over $4 billion. Zenimax is private plus founder-controlled so even a $2 billion buy could be rejected (de ja vu? 😁) so buying a massive stake 50%-70% will be smart.

@Zello: We will not get any details. it all earnings and Social Point now being part of Take-Two Interactive.
