In truth it feels like the GTA V days where we get one bit of evidence for an upcoming announcement and then... nada.

 

Just like this. Rockstar's word for "hype" is spelled "nada" by the way. They do nothing, and the fans hype themselves into a frenzy. So much less work for Rockstar.

Nice! I have a sneaking suspicion something is definitely brewing on RDR2 news front and i am sure those running gtanet knows nothing about it and this update is completely coincidental.

I couldn't believe even a UK tabloid newspaper, the Express, reported saying there's rumours that a "new trailer is looming with a release date announcement at the Super Bowl".

 

The 5th February sale date for those cards is suspicious, and maybe it's true (we can hope), but pre-orders have been open since the announcement so these cards might just be a red herring.

 

We might not get as many followers on @RedDeadNet, but at least we won't click bait it to death

I'm still somewhat negative when it comes to Superbowl. Rockstar always could do it, but they've only done it once or twice I think, it's really not their thing. It is their thing however to start blowouts 2 to 4 months before release, without that necessarily meaning a delay because it's plenty of time. And the name Rockstar makes everyone run to them immediately, so they don't need much marketing. We'll see, it's a good sign if posters and cards are being pushed to retailers, but I wouldn't hold my breath, as good as these next two weeks sound.

Exactly That's why it makes me laugh imagining them visiting Reddit and then posting it like they've got the big scoop.

 

Changing the subject, GTA Online has discounts etc now until 13th February, and presumably as they'll dish out something Valentines themed on the 14th. Is there room for RDR2 amongst this?

I wouldn't think some GTAO stuff would have any impact on RDR. I wasn't aware there are people who still care that much about discounts to divert traffic from rdr

Yeah I don't think GTAO would impact RDR2 marketing stuff much either to be honest. I have a good feeling about this superbowl ad.

It's not that it would impact it, but they seem to like only one thing out there at the top of the Newswire at a time.

 

I'm still hoping that there would be something before the Super Bowl even if they have paid for the adspace. A lot of the fanbase could miss out on it premiering the middle of the night in Europe, even though I can appreciate it would still be seen by a big audience. The hype train is much bigger if it's released for the fans on their Newswire. And that's all they need really.

Since RDR2, all bonus weeks have been two weeks long. And I have a feeling they started doing this because everyone speculated (and correctly) that the first double week bonus was because there was an announcement inbound. But now they've been doing it constantly. I do wonder what would've happened if we had never talked about it. I think they like leaving the first bonus week as clean as they can, so it doesn't get buried by anything else, the second week could be a different story.

In reality though, because those bonus weeks are one after another, I'm thinking it won't effect their plans at all, or, at maximum, announcements will be on the second week of that bonus.

 

I'm still reaaaally insecure about this Superbowl thing, it wouldn't make too much sense for Europe unless they posted it on the Newswire as soon as it aired, a la GTA V NG E3 announcement, posted during the night on the Newswire. And I'm having uncomfortable flashbacks to the 2012 Superbowl where we thought the exact same thing, "because they can", "because GTA V is a big game", and nothing. I'll be waiting comfortably.

If they run a Super Bowl ad, it will probably include a URL at the end - "go here to see the longer version" - with a web trailer of longer duration for Americans and people abroad alike.

 

I don't know if they will or won't, but that 2/5 date is curious. Either someone was clever enough to slip that date in to f*ck with people, or there's a reason for it. Most things don't start selling randomly on a Sunday, not even on Super Bowl Sunday.

Street dating the cards is just weird in general when preorders went live for GameStop and online retailers the day the announcement went live. Also for Target to get the cards street dated for a week away and not allowed to just put them out is odd given they're just $1 preorder cards but I wonder if Wal-Mart or Best Buy are the same given they do these reservation cards too.

 

Again if Rockstar doesn't say anything or posts a trailer before Saturday then nothing is happening Sunday.

Um I think starting from midnight your time? Some commercials will be online before that too. Nintendo just posted their Zelda/Switch Super Bowl ad online this morning which is kinda crazy they've done Super Bowl...

Not too late for the GI stuff, they revealed it on Jan 4 for the February cover. But the waiting is killing me. Not expecting anything, just, y'know, haha.

Unlikely, probably, considering with GTA V they teased it in really cheeky ways back then like two days prior to the reveal. But well there were also hundreds of people asking them on Twitter haha.

 

Also, just hit me, R* might not do two trailers in a row (reveal + Superbowl) without some screens or extra info beforehand, no?

Well I figured, like Nintendo did, they would have a extended trailer this week possibly revealing the release and then cut it down to 30 seconds for the masses on Sunday.

 

If that were to happen I'd expect an announcement today or something but I'm not counting on it anymore. lol

 

Also yeah GI used to tease their covers but after leaks and people guessing them correctly they just quit. lol

Rockstar usually does things on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Not really expecting anything either because R* are the kings of deception, so having a bad feeling is always more correct than not.

Well they retweeted an article about GTA Online and its "record" players today by Game Informer and also followed them. Not sure if this means anything but thought I'd mention it.

Weird, I know GI already followed them, thought R* had followed them too. Unless it was just their editors. Means nothing, really. Probably forgot to follow them despite a bazillion Rockstar covers having been on there.

 

Also, Twitter is managed by community team, so nothing can be inferred from that.
