I'm definitely expecting a teaser trailer on Super Bowl Sunday. Rockstar definitely has enough cash to do that and alot of people will see it of course.

If something is coming during the super bowl, am I right in thinking it won't actually premiere on that day, they will just air it amongst the adverts? It could come a few days before. It seems a bit daft to actually premiere it during a sporting event which airs mid-late evening in only one country (it airs in the UK but they cut the ads for our own commentary).

Well I'm extremely hyped although Rockstar has done a good job at disappointing since the reveal so we all should remain a bit skeptical BUT Take Two Earnings call on the 7th and now this sounds like something is going to drop in the beginning of February. I mean thinking about it if the game is coming in October more marketing should begin with either a GI reveal with release date or second (proper) trailer and then I'd expect Rockstar to hide again till April or May.

Boy, you're gonna have a field day when we enter marketing mode with all those clickbait videos :p

Im thinking we'll get screens on the 31st...idk why but I feel it. with a "more to come next month" caption

31st at 12pm EST sees Game Informer announcing RDR2 as their March cover, issue goes live February 1st. Newswire on 31st advertises issue with "more to come". Feb 1st issue goes live and Newswire announces new trailer for Thursday that debuts and is more story driven introducing the main protagonist(s), ends with a release date.

....yeah I think I've posted this exact scenario multiple times now before RDR2 was announced so we're back to square one here. Lol

It's not gonna happen ... sorry.

Dont stomp on my dreams,man....

Some ads will air before but the majority will air during the actual game just because of the amount of people that watch and the cost each ad.

Superbowl ads are a worldwide thing now. Even though they on US TV during US peak times (which is in the AM in EU) - they go viral quick and get massive worldwide coverage on Twitter, Facebook and Reddit etc.

BTW, they used the Hashtag on the Twitter announcements.

Still interesting they're pushing it via posters tho.

I can't tell you guys how happy I am that many people aren't interested in RDR2.

RDR1 is my favorite game of all time and part of that is there were no kiddies around that game because you couldn't blow stuff up.

I can't wait for a game without cars, jets, super hyper guns...and to finally have a new R* game. I just can't play GTA Online anymore without the feeling to die on the inside

I've hopes that RDR2 Multiplayer won't simply be a western version of GTA Online. Rockstar's "Brand new online multiplayer experience" statement was said for a purpose.

I think it was bad luck that Rockstar "had" to release the RDR2 trailer together with Nintendo's Switch reveal. That surely wasn't planned and left R* with a bad taste in their mouth imo. Because of that i think R* won't reveal anything major (or anything at all) in the time from late February to late March imo. Sure there's a little chance in the next two weeks with the upcoming Super Bowl and Take Two's conference call, i gotta admit. But right now my bet's on the 2nd half of March. That's when Rockstar will kick off the marketing campaign (with a GI cover story for April). I guess they will let Nintendo do their thing first.

I really don't think they cared. It had no impact on the reveal, people can watch or read two things in a day. One of the biggest devs in the biz, owned by a billion dollar publisher aren't going to just throw their advertising plans up in the air because they revealed a trailer the same day as the Nintendo Switch was announced (a console they're not even releasing on). They were happy to knock out GTA information in the months leading up to the PS4/XB1 release too.

Anyway, we have new posters indicating they will be doing something over the next 1-2 weeks. We'll just have to wait and see as usual.

The same person who said that last week. If his name has anything with Raiden on it or any relation, it's a known troll.

There is precedent for video game super bowl trailers, although is it something R* has done before? I know the likes of CoD have. But not sure if it's R*'s style?

Well there's a little bit more to it really. In the end Rockstar is owned by Take Two which is a publicly traded company and then to top it off Sony is involved with some exclusivity and likely the PS4 being the advertised platform whenever a RDR2 trailer or tv spot debuts. So all these marketing plans are made months in advance, contracts signed.

I don't know if we'll see a tv spot Sunday and honestly if we were I'd expect a new trailer to drop this week before then that they would use to shorten down for a spot. It's weird, it does feel like SOMETHING could be happening this week but at the same time i wouldn't be surprised if we didn't. lol

Yes, you are right. People can watch two different things on the same day. But that's not the point. Without the Switch reveal the attention would have been on Rockstar and Red Dead only, something they surely would have preferred. While Red Dead was covered everywhere too, Nintendo had the #1 headlines that day. And hey, not everyone is browsing and reading everything on gaming websites like we do. Maybe it wasn't a big deal after all as you said, but they definitely cared imo. Especially when you think about Rockstar's ego.

Ehhh. It's not like the game was being announced and released that day. It really did no damage to their advertising, and Rockstar's "ego"? They're one of the most unique developers out there, but you can't really say they have a big ego. Confident, sure. No doubt they were probably hoping they'd have the day to them selves, but a console announcement where they didn't really show much wasn't exactly a blow, especially since they built the announcement up for about a week. The logo change probably got more coverage than anything else. Anyway, we're just speculating at the end of the day.

Rockstar marketing can conveniently use that excuse to avoid releasing any info, and they probably will use that excuse for months. :p

A big flashy Super Bowl ad for RDR2 would be appropriate IF Rockstar knew for sure that the game would be released in May, but since release has already been announced for Fall 2017, a Super Bowl extravaganza would be waaaay too early. No Super Bowl, and as always, no E3.

Side note / prediction: E3 is dying, anyway, because it's becoming less relevant, and vendors are pulling out. They could pump new life into E3 by opening it to the public, and starting to encroach on the endless demand for more crossover content along the lines of Comic Con type conventions, but I don't think they will go in that direction. E3 in 2017 will probably be the big year for pushing VR gaming, and that will fall flat, because VR is BS, a fitting indication that E3 2018 might not even happen.

The real time to watch to Rockstar's RDR2 hype rampup intentions may be late March 2017, as people have said above. If nothing happens then, we know it's the same old Rockstar management doing their same old thing, and all we'll get is a few little screenshots, if anything, in June. Then as July rolls around, when the doubts about release date start piling up, we'll see an annouoncement of delay to 2018, rather than the fantastic trailer and articles we've been waiting for.

....I agree and disagree. A big flashy trailer actually makes sense if they're trying to reach out to a wider audience, so I wouldn't rule out a super bowl reveal but I remain skeptical because this is well Rockstar and they seem to do there own thing but they did have the first teaser played during Sunday Night Football so? Going back to what Spider said I think a GI February Edition reveal is just as plausible, either way something is brewing and AGAIN a delay doesn't look likely AT THIS POINT which I feel is useless to mention right now. Ohhh and E3 is unlikely unless Sony has a DEAL to show Gameplay first?

Side Note: E3 is very much alive, not sure what you're talking about. Lots of upcoming games will be shared and that's not even bringing up the "Scorpio" showcase. Could hear about Sony's exclusives: Days Gone, God of War, Spiderman, Detroit Become Human, etc. That's not even bringing up other studios like Bethesda which is rumored to be possibly revealing a space rpg "StarField", CD Projekt RED talking about Cyberpunk 2077, Ubisoft's Assasins Creed Empire reveal or showcase (ehh we'll see), Gearbox first trailer for Borderlands 3 and hey maybe we'll hear about some Valve games as Gabe Newell said they're making new Half Life/Portal Games. Point is the event is very much alive and will continue to strive, personally I'm the most excited for E3 2017 with all these possible showcases and reveals.

It appears y'all inadvertently answered my question in my previous post. No matter as y'all got me back on the hype train again, especially for next month. And then the next. So on and so forth. Maybe if we're lucky, Rockstar will be all of our Valentines and release more info on Valentine's Day. One can only dream...

That's cool!

..uh what is it? lol Apologies as I've never kept up with the GTA network and stuff but I assume this is a RDR centered fan account that networks with other fan sites, social accounts and members to share news and content? Sounds great if so and surprised to see they follow me too so awesome! lol

To talk about yesterday...that's the problem with clickbait sites and social media - there's now these sites posting about it seems certain a Super Bowl trailer is coming because of the Target reservation cards. I get us talking and speculating about it, I'm a little skeptical myself and think we'd hear more before Sunday, but Damn posting your headlines about a Super Bowl trailer coming seems wrong. lol

Yes and no. If there was we would surely get some kind of idea this week via a Newswire post I would think as it dropping Sunday without any kind of announcement or teaser could mean little possible fanfare. On the other hand Super Bowl spots for movies and such are usually kept a secret and we never know unless we find out which studios bought ad time and deduce it from that or when said studios might announce a first look at something via a spot.

The one thing I would mention about a possible Superbowl ad - The game is still 7-8 months away and I wouldn't expect them to kick start their advertising campaign for a least a few more months. Considering how all-out Rockstar go with billboards, paintings on buildings, online and TV advertising a Superbowl ad is potentially a lot of money to spend on a 30 second spot when your game is still 6+ months away and your advertising campaign 2 to 4 months away. I know some mega-films out in the autumn will occasionally have a Superbowl ad, but I can't even recall a game developer doing it.

I mean, I could be completely wrong and they could be kicking it off now for a September release which is 7 months away now, but even then to me that feels like a front loaded campaign. But then again, they are rolling in the money these days so I dunno.

In truth it feels like the GTA V days where we get one bit of evidence for an upcoming announcement and then... nada.

Right. I'd ordinarily agree but they apparently spent like $1.4 million To advertise the announcement on TV during the football and Walking Dead so a spot during Super Bowl might not be unusual but only if advertises the release date.

Without the Switch reveal the attention would have been on Rockstar and Red Dead only, something they surely would have preferred. While Red Dead was covered everywhere too, Nintendo had the #1 headlines that day.

Me and all my gaming buddies were watching the news then (just like everyone) and my memory is of the headlines being this:

RDR2: "Holy sh*t! Look at this f*cking trailer! YES!"

Nintendo Switch: "wtf? LULLLLLLZZZZ!"

Granted, since then the official reveal has upped the anticipation level (despite there not being absolutely any non-sh*tty games available for it at launch (ok...except Zelda, which you can also play on the Wii U).

I'm pretty sure R* were like, "Hmmmm? Nintendo did something? Meh."
