Is it just me or did he hype for this game completely die???

Thats what happens when you announce a game a whole year off with a trailer that tells you jacksh*t except that its gonna look good.

The reveal trailer was R*s weakest reveal trailer in years. At least GTAV teaser gave us a look of what to come and what to expect. You cant tell jack sh*t about RDR2 from that trailer

At least we have a date this time around.

"Spring, 2013"

Spring 2013 was not given at announcement time, and there was no evidence that GTA V was in development for more than a year at that time (build logs from PS3 show 2010-2011 as full development, and it was announced in 2011), RDR2 seems to be in development for at least two years now.

I've been watching westerns in the meantime again. Do people really prefer "For A Few Dollars More" over "A Fistful of Dollars"?

I thought Gian Maria Volonte's role as Ramon Rojo was brilliant.

Time flies indeed. Remember when the discussion went heavy here around the end of May and close to E3 on RDR2? Everybody was excited that we might finally get an announcement and a reveal trailer, and most eyes were directed toward Sony's conference. 'Winds blow counter to what ships desire' is a popular Arabic proverb that fits the disappointment that E3 left inside RDR fans. It wasn't until 4 months later that R* finally uncovered the game and our wait for October didn't go down the drain. What would it take to wait another 3-4 months from now to get another look into what's coming from RDR2?

in the end the announcement/trailer wasn't even a surprise, we all knew the game would happen. it certainly felt good though to see current-gen graphics on a Red Dead game, and having a certain time-window for the release is nice too, but my anticipation hasn't changed, still dreamin of it whenever I get near the grand sênora desert in GTA 5. I could do without any material until release tbh, and I crave this game really bad.

Do they? I feel like most discussion I see online ranks the 3 parts of the "man with no name trilogy" pretty equally.

It will be silence until Spring 2017. I believe that there will be a Game Informer cover story either in March or April, accompanied by a second trailer. From that point, RDR2 will be the center of Rockstar marketing and the newswire will be flooded by Western themes contrary to what we have now (GTA Online). This thing continues for 6-7 months until the game hits the shelves in October (more likely) or November. Gameplay video series? there will be similar to RDR and GTA V.

(Don't forget to mention my name in your Youtube channel :santa: )

I have been thinking exactly the same thing. Rockstar never focus on two things at the same time. This feels very much like the GTA V announcement back in 2011. BAM! Official announcement and first trailer in the middle of the Max Payne 3 marketing campaign. Then dead silence for almost a year.

The difference between GTA V and RDR2 is that when GTA V was announced R* stated that it was in full development but they didn't give us an official release window. It felt like it was more to let people know that GTA V was on it's way, "so please stop complaining and let us release Max Payne 3 first".

With RDR2 they have actually given us a release window. So I don't think we will have to worry about it being released 2 years after the initial announcement like with GTA V. I'm also guessing they will release it in September. There are so many other games being released in October-November (CoD, Need for Speed etc).

Here's my two cents on the trilogy:

I happened to see "Fistful of Dollars" recently, and I was a bit shocked at the somewhat primitive production / editing quality, leading to the realization that this was obviously the first of a new genre, but not too polished. However, it fit well with its peers at the time - action movies weren't the most highly produced or best written movies, back then. The music, the nihilism, the nod to samurai films, the style, and certain scenes, made it deservedly a cult movie.

The reason that I was shocked at the lesser production values of "Fistful" was because, before it, I had recently seen "For A Few Dollars More," which was made and edited a lot better, in my opinion. It did hype me for RDR2, as we are talking about here. The music was great, of course. In this movie, they really knew that they were tuning up a new genre, and it showed. Action movies were also evolving at the same time.

Then, of course, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" was the crowning masterpiece. It optimized and maxed out everything, fully formed. It added artful gravity to the first two movies, because it built on them so well, and so necessarily. In my opinion, after this, people started making westerns that lazily and inadequately tried to imitate the essence of the trilogy - until "Wild Bunch," which was a well-made, well-written epic masterpiece, as well.

^ maybe they favor FAFDM because it features lee van cleef, and klaus kinski. it feels more fleshed out, though I think therefore it misses that raw vibe you get from FFOD.

love the whole trilogy, leone's visuals and moricone's score combined worked brilliantly!

Which of all R*'s announcement trailers resembles RDR2's the most? I would say GTA IV. Both trailers were scenery-centric and had a clam music playing in the background. They also had an unknown character making a short speech at the end with no explanation of who he is or what his story is about.

Is this also a coincidence?

After disregarding R*'s logos and other similar marketing symbols, my approximations revealed that GTA IV's first trailer showed 50 seconds of in-game footage, whereas RDR2 showed 52 seconds. Pretty close numbers!

I know this movie has nothing on the "Dollars Trilogy" but man, Sergio Leone was a freaking master of his craft at directing.

Welp. R* changed their logo back to the back on orange so I assume no news for quite some time

They would've gone back to the orange logo anyway. The red one was just temporary and never meant to stay all the way to the release of the game. But yeah, as you said, there should be no news for quite some time. GTA IV got a GI cover story in May 2007 issue and L.A.Noire got it in March 2010 issue. It's not a pattern or anything, but just to restate that March-May would the perfect timing for the bubble to explode again.

First, I want to be clear... I am by no means saying should there be children in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Ok, I know the video below shows 5 guys as an example and not 7 but what if the characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 are ruthless murderers as seen in the video. Should we have a "band of brothers" type posse that will do anything in the vast open-world and spill blood whenever possible with no emotion or remorse? At the 2:00 mark I'm picturing a few members of the posse emerging in Red Dead Redemption 2. :)

It would be interesting if Rockstar constructed RDR2 so that there are different gangs or individuals with clearly different ethics - from completely evil and amoral, to frontier justice, to certain very specific moral codes for revenge/retribution, to blind greed and to Robin Hood types, and of course power-mad bastards.

RDR did a fair job exploring a number of these elements, and they also had the personal Honor system for the protag. I'd like to see this type of moral exploration continued, but with interactive effect - i.e., the alignments or adversarial positions that the protag has with these different types actually has more effect on the story, so that the results and the benefits are more meaningful.

It looks like the same Rockstar fa**ot who correctly leaked the Bikers and Imports & Export DLCs has released this;

If that's true, then sh*t. Us of the forums could come up with something better than that. Hell, I could do better than just 'GTA V but in the OLD WEST!!112'
