"Ace In a Day" - A DLC Concept

Lately, I've been returning to GTA Online since i had a fair bit of hiatus, for no reason in particular other than that i was a bit burnt out on the game. The updates seem to get more and more game-changing as of late, in comparison to the updates before Heists. As we see more and more impressive updates, it sort of unleashed my imagination as to what could be possible seeing as Rockstar is showing increased interactivity with the playerbase. Despite of me saying this, I am not expecting anything from Rockstar in response to this. This is just an amalgamation of what I'd like to see updated and what new elements could be presented ingame in order to improve the experience for all sections of the playerbase. With that in mind, I'll present my "dream DLC".

Ace In a Day

Is an update that centers around everything that flies, and has guns on it. Such things are featured in the game, in some people's opinions in abundance, but the truth is, they're represented in a very shallow way considering how unique and complex air combat could really get.

It's time to bring out the flying guns, so look out down below.

A core idea of this hypothethical update would be the ability to join the United States Air Force, and gain access to the Zancudo Airbase. To join the USAF, your online character would have to qualify for these attributes:

-Rank 15 or above

-Strength 3 bars or above

-Stamina 3 bars or above

-Lung capacity 3 bars or above

After applying for the United States Air Force through a website, you would get a blip at Zancudo Airbase, for a physical examination. This would feature cutscenes of your online character doing various excercises. After this process, you would either fail or pass, according to your character's attributes. Upon failing, you would get a notification on improving the general stats of your online character before trying to apply again. This technically wouldn't have to be an option, as the USAF missions could be locked away from those with insufficient attributes, but in my opinion it would seem better fleshed out with 2 options.

Upon succeeding, you will go through updated military specific flight school missions, until you've gained 4 bars of flying skill. These missions would feature combat maneuver training, and weapons operation for the updated selection of aerial weaponized vehicles. You could skip these missions if you had the flying skill already upgraded, but they would earn you cash, and an effort should be made to make them less tedious than the actual flight school missions.

After the completion of training, you would unlock a line of 5 missions, which involve you serving your duties as a fighter pilot for the USAF. These missions would feature new gameplay elements, such as air superiority and the support of advancing ground vehicles.

Mission 1: "Domestic Affairs"

-Only 1 player can participate in this mission

-The objective of this mission, is to strafe out smuggler vehicles in the desert.

-The mission will feature a new attack aircraft, the "Prowler".

-Some of the targets will require precise marksmanship and clever co-operation with the troops on the ground in order to carry out the mission successfully.

-The mission will take place during the dark of the night, which will reinforce the way the mission progresses through co-operation with the ground forces.

Mission 2: "Foreign Affairs"

-Only 1 player can participate in this mission

-The objective of this mission is to intercept an unidentified aircraft flying suspiciously close to the western coast.

-You are flying with an additional crew member, and another interceptor flies with you for the mission

-The mission will feature a new twin-engined heavy fighter: the "P-995 Gamma", a new bomber aircraft, the "Groza", and another new twin-engined heavy fighter, the "Strizh"

-Once it is apparent that the unidentified craft is a Russian bomber, a "Groza", the objective is to show your weapons and escort the plane out of airspace.

-The bomber's escort in a hasteful judgement begins painting your wingman, and a dogfight breaks out

-Defeat the enemy fighters by using the techniques and maneuvers that you learnt during the updated flight school.

Mission 3: "Air Superiority"

-2 to 8 players can participate in this mission

-The objective of this mission is to maintain the control of an area in the sky by having more aircraft than the enemy team in the given area

-The mission will feature new vintage piston-engined fighters, such as the new "Rustler", the "Adler", the "Century F. 5" aswell as the "Ochiru".

-It is not necessary to win the mission in order to progress through the mission line.

-Will unlock air superiority missions for regular play

Mission 4: "Close Air Support"

-2 to 8 players can participate in this mission

-The objective of this mission is to allow your side's ground forces to advance the frontline

-It is not necessary to win this mission in order to progress through the mission line.

-Will unlock close air support missions for regular play

Mission 5: "The Hunt"

-Only 1 player can participate in this mission

-The objective of this mission is to follow instructions given by ground radar operators, in order to track down a stolen stealth fighter, the "Predator".

-The mission will feature a new stealth air superiority fighter, the "Predator"

-The mission will take place during the night, making the mission that much harder.

-Once you establish contact with the stolen fighter, you are instructed to destroy it as to prevent the technology getting stolen.

-You will find out that it is piloted by Trevor, who will reveal through comms that he wants to use the stolen fighter in his criminal operation.

-Trevor will not engage you, but will try fly defensively to try and escape with the fighter

-A cutscene will follow after you destroy the plane, where Trevor bails out and curses while he hangs from his parachute

After the completion of these missions, you will unlock the ability to form your own Fighter Squadron, with places for 8 members. In these squadrons, it is possible to participate in different freemode activities such as shooting down smuggler aircraft, flying in formation and defending cargo planes from other players in the session. In these fighter squadrons, you unlock the ability to customize the loadout of your plane. You can load bombs, missiles and rockets to your hardpoints, and for additional pilot protection you can install armoured plates inside of the cockpit. For aircraft armed with machine-guns, there is an option to customize the ammo belts to include Incendiary, HE or AP rounds in any configuration the player desires.

To survive the hard times that would ensue on the ground below, i propose reworking the missiles, in a way where the old Homing Missile would lose some of it's range, and speed. Instead of using the old Homing Missile, I'd suggest adding a special "Anti-Air Missile". The missile rework would include the missiles fired by fighter aircraft, and the new "Anti-Air Missile". They would get lead-computing guidance, which would make them actually effective against jet griefers. To balance this, I'd make it unable to track ground vehicles or helicopters.

To give the helicopters some additional advantages, there'd be an option on the website of purchase to equip any personally owned helicopter with flare dispensers, which could be controlled through the interaction menu. Military helicopters would obviously have these flare dispensers equipped by default, and they would also be controlled by the pilot through the interaction menu. The flares would dispense automatically while active as soon as a missile starts tracking the helicopter.

In summary:

Gameplay

-5 new missions for the USAF in the Zancudo Airbase

-Ability to form your own fighter squadrons with 8 members

-New freemode activites involving fighter squadrons

-New gamemode: Air Superiority

-New gamemode: Close Air Support

-Missiles reworked & Homing missile nerf

-Flare dispensers for aircraft

-New flight school missions centered around aerial combat

-Ability to customize loadouts of weaponized aircraft

Vehicles

-the Jobuilt Prowler attacker

/Based on the Panavia Tornado and the A-10 Warthog

-the Jobuilt P-995 Gamma heavy fighter

/Based on the F-15 Eagle and the F-14 Tomcat

-the Groza bomber

/Based on the IL-78 Midas and the Tu-95 Bear

*Would feature player-controlled defensive gunners, and a crew of 6

-the Strizh heavy fighter

/Based on the Su-27 Flanker

-the Western Rustler prop fighter

/Based on the P-51D Mustang, with the tail section from the P-47D Thunderbolt

-the Übermacht Adler prop fighter

/Based on the Bf-109 Messerschmitt late marks

-the Buckingham Century F. 5 prop fighter

/Based on the Supermarine Spitfire merlin-engined variants

-the Maibatsu Ochiru prop fighter

/Based on the A6M3 Reisen but with an inline engine

-the Jobuilt Predator stealth fighter

/Based on the F-22 Raptor

Weapons

-Anti-Air missile

/Far better tracking than Homing missile, but almost useless for anything except bringing down griefing jet players

Clothing

-Pilot themed clothing options for males and females

-Vintage military uniforms

That about sums up everything I could come up with in regards to what aerial content i want to see added. This would also probably not be hugely appreciated by the community, that seems to sort of forget how many areas of gameplay GTA includes and could expand upon. If such an update was ever included within GTA, i doubt it would have everything I've mentioned here, as it's a huge list and it's not a complete rendering of what would probably stay on the cutting room floor.

More jets? It's bad enough with two

The idea is well written though but I do think it's a little OTT.

nerf

-1 for this.

-1 again for the lack of an Apache.

Overall though, sure - why not?

I guess this belongs here..

The only thing that appeals to me are the Zancudo base 'based' missions

Absolutely over the top.

Also, wishlist thread.

EDIT: Or a move. That works, I suppose.

I was wondering where all these threads went.

The interaction menu for flares? That sh*t lags all the time lol, I'd prefer it to just be a weapon you switch to or something.

There's a lot of stuff here that are added just to illustrate the missions and the general hype such things generate in the community. I would take the piston-engined fighters over anything listed, but i wrote this as sort of the ultimate pilot DLC which would include everything from the outlandish to the reasonable.

Don't we already have the flight school update? We don't need more than one plane update.

Don't we already have the flight school update? We don't need more than one plane update.

Flight school update was basically a filler update with bugfixes, it was a waste of potential if anything. Aside from that, this concept features more unique gameplay additions such as the ability to access the Zancudo airbase for missions and actually interesting vehicles. It's a bit absurd to say that we can only have one update of a particular theme, when we've already had a billion business style updates.

Just because it's been done before doesn't mean that it should have been done.

I love the WW2 fighter planes and the flares for helicopters. Unsure about the influx of jets. We need the Hunter and the Sea Sparrow if we're going for armed aircraft, too. Solid idea overall, but those new jets would need some serious drawbacks to them so it requires skill to actually use efficiently. Wouldn't mind having the unarmed P-996 LAZER jets that are on the maintenance deck in the EMP setup, though.

as long as there will be loads of airplanes from the WO1 and WO2 era (and inbetween), I will be happy and cheer for an update like this. We have already to much jets as it is, but old fighter planes and machine guns on top of it (to be manned by a second member), would be so neat!

I wanna be the Red Baron (although I can also be that in Battlefield 1 atm) :)
