GTA V has the worst traffic AI in the series

V's traffic is ok imo. Sure they go apesh*t if someone fires a gun but they actually follow the road rules and assume that you will too. Plus V's traffic has lots of variety too!

In IV it feels like the devs didnt even expect anyone to stop at red lights or anything. Now THAT game had some retarded AI.

What I discovered is traffic behind you will go around you depending on your position of the road. I was not hit from behind (Ala GTA SAN ANDREAS) during my trip. I was having a few pedestrians drive around me if I was late on moving during a green light. This is due to me playing around with the camera. When I was ready to move at a green light I had no issues.

Tell that to the NPC's who rear end me regularly for sitting at a green light for 0.5 seconds. No hyperbole either, they literally ram me that much. I'm creating a video out of all this so I should have proof eventually.

Probably due to traffic lights staying red for three minutes while being green for three seconds. And yes, I said three seconds. I am not joking on that. It is that bad for me. I'm doing my damndest to drive "normally" in my current playthrough and I get this nonstop.

I made six more videos of me driving around with no AI ramming me from behind if you really want to sit though them.

I play on PS4 and PC....I don't have issues with either. I don't have special copies or anything so I don't know what you're doing wrong. I'd have to see this video of yours.

I agree about IV lol. For a game focussing on realism it sure had terrible AI.

The Dedito Gae

Not to defend the AI in V, but IV is not far ahead. Peds don't even recognize the player's vehicle as a "car" sorta speak so they get impatient on your ass and they start going around you/ramming tour car/honking like retards.

There's also some terrible traffic consistency in IV, maybe is a bridge thing or something, but sometimes cars spawn out of nowhere in front of you when you look behind or something. Not to mention the weird behavior drivers have on bridges, they just change lanes for no reason (point moot because this happens EVERWHERE in V but still worth mentioning)

Adding to that, there's a cut street on either Alderney or Algonquin (i forgot which one) where cars spawn out of a backlot like it was a street or parking lot. Pretty dissapointing to be honest.

I feel GTAV is the worst and the most agonizing to drive around.

I've seen weird AI behaviours in previous GTA, but probably GTAV's stands out because of the 5000 ton ped's cars.

The problem is that the AI is intentionally programmed to screw you over. Not every AI driver, but some of them absolutely are.

You can see this when you're speeding up to an intersection and there is cross traffic. You can actually watch AI drivers speed up/slow down to cause a collision. There have been times where I made a small steering adjustment and "tricked" other AI drivers and saw them start swerving into what they expected my new path to be.

Say what you want about the sophistication of the AI in previous games, at least they weren't intentionally programmed to crash into you.

Actually, that isn't true. In VC and SA, vehicles on multi-lane roads were consistently programmed to take off ramps from the wrong (leftmost) lane, cutting across two lanes to do so. A strategy which is specifically designed to cause collisions as the player not wise to this naturally attempts to pass in the empty right hand lane.

I mean. I agree with the traffic and AI in this game being absolutely horrible, but if you watch those two videos and open your eyes a little bit, some of the moves they make happen in real life all the time. People break the rules of the road all the time.

The game wasn't like this when it first came out. I don't remember it being this bad in the ps3 either. It can be frustrating a lot of times, but if you really think about it, we have these idiots in OUR real world that drive like this.

Well sometimes you really wonder what is going on with some of the driving NPC`s but usually they behave very well.I rarelly have these sudden "turn lefts" in front of you or that someone else is crashing into me.Only if Junctions are a bit more crowded then some NPCs start to push the Car a bit.

What really bugs me is how weird the Towtrucks act.

They drive along the Street or Highway and then it seems they get stuck in the Pavement for several short Times, looks like they are hopping. And this sometimes really gets on my Nerves.I think it has something to do with the Physics of the Tow Hook.

Anyone else has this?

Yes, I have the same bug. That's why I just removed the tow trucks from the traffic, if you have a PC version, you can do the same.

They dont know I have a 53ft trailer attached. I love driving everywhere in trucks, box or tractor trailer. They dont like it, I guess.

For me, I'm happy that at least there is more of a vehicle 'population' compared to other GTA's. Appreciate OP's opinion but the traffic AI is far less annoying than the police AI and the triggers for stars. Annoys the hell out of me that firing a weapon on top of Chilliad with nobody else around at 3am causes star-rage! (see what I did there?)

Ai drivers give me the sh!t if I`m driving or not. We all know what they are like when you are driving on the road with them but lets not forget their tendency to run you over. I'm not talking about running into the highway like below. OH NO, the amount of times I get randomly run over for standing there/trying to chase down someone or just after re-spawning has got to the point it's like the game is just trying to troll me. :facedesk:

yeah can confirm this, driving trucks with trailers or buses is totally f*cked up in this game.

driving trailers is fun for the reason A.I. don't know it's there, perfect for smacking into the side if they try to take over me

On CG, it's bad. Probably from the increased amount of traffic, the AI can't handle 35 different cars in a small intersection apparently. Also the traffic lights suck.

The traffic AI gets more crazy with every new DLC it seems. Bikers already was bad with NPCs totally ignoring you and the bikes but now with I/E the traffic is totally nutters. It's going that far that the normal traffic is more dangerous and causes more damage during aquisitions and deliveries than the NPCs actually chasing you. I also have the impression that unexpected line changes especially in front of intersections, sudden turning out of nowhere and things like this have quadrupled. Than you've the crossing AI that's clearly porgrammed to crash into you. Sometimes vehicles even exceed their actual speed limit to ram into you (this gets especially obvious with vehicles like the Taco van, the Camper or some trucks). They'll literally accelerate like a supersport with their piss boxes just to make contact with you.

I don't know how many times I "reprimanded" NPCs since I/E got live because of this. It really seems intentional and like R* wants you to flip-out, rage and start an amok run. They should tone that down to about maybe 10% of what it actually is. I mean it surely would be boring if all the AI would drive like grandma to the church on sunday but at the moment it's simply toooooooo much!

AI: Oh look, there's this guy armed to the teeth in his ultra expensive car getting chased by other guys also armed to the teeth in their cars. What should I do? Maybe try to get as far away as fast as I can? No, f*ck that. I'm going to turn 180° and try to ram into one of them. YOLO!

The traffic in GTA V is meant to be a comedy version of the real LA traffic. This game makes a parody of LA, of America itself and this entire generation. GTA V is a game filled with irony. It's like a self-irony of the world, of us, of this generation. It's a parody with tons of exaggeration. Just check the TV shows in GTA V, check the ads, check the brand names, check everything, look around and you'll notice! That's the main reason why I love GTA series.

There's parody and then there's inconvenience. GTA never had to wreck the traffic system before to get their parody fulfilled. The system is terrible and it's a pain.

HonestlyI haven't noticed it until now when I am looking at running Import/Export missions. Some of the Youtube clips I've seen have some crazy glitching.. clearly they want to screw you over. I get it, make it harder because that's the idea, but damn, there has to be a limit. Magically appearing from one side of the road isn't cool.

The worst bit about it for me is if there is a slight risk of a head on collision the incoming NPC driving will attempt to turn into you, rather than turn away from you.

Liberty City Stories has the worst in the series, IMO. You can barely ever drive on there without some rogue driver flooring it and ramming into you. It became incredibly annoying especially during the 'R3' missions.

V, surprisingly enough, I never really had a problem with.

I would say the traffic is equal in all of the games. Perhaps SA has less traffic though. But I would have to play them again to see.

COnsidering I never obeyed the road regulations is perhaps the reason I've never suffered from this I guess. I know that SA highway traffic used to literally drive me up the freaking wall back in the day!
