GTA V has the worst traffic AI in the series

San Andreas traffic is far worse than GTAV. The traffic spawning either right behind you or right around the corner leads to my opinion. The bad traffic in these games are part of the games difficulty.

This I dont understand. There probably will never be another game as ambitious as GTA SA for another gen or too. Plus, it was released on playstation 2. It was way ahead of its time. Give it a break! Popping cars are understandable. But the only excuse I have for GTAV is that last gen held it back. But still that doesnt fly 100%, it was totally R*s decision to make a huge static and sterile world. They couldve gone for depth, intractability, and so on but they cose the other route and I dont know why.

That being said, the AI in GTA4 is also bad, but V takes it to another level. Its definitely on my list of games with the worst AI for sure.

Cars swerving, cops not acting dynamically like they did in 4 so instead its just them repeatedly slamming your bumper and immediately pulling their guns. Pedestrians reacting stupidly to the most insignificant things like revving your engine or just f*ckING standing by them. It truly is abysmal.

I dont know how ANYONE can say IVs AI is worse. It isnt worse in ANY regard

So, I was roleplaying in my Penumbra Sport (stopping at red lights, speed limit, ect.) and while I was going to turn on the road between Hwy.13 and 1, going onto East Joshua Road, I cut across the interstate to get there. (and let me remind you that the car in the other lane was MILES away, almost out of spawn distance.) so, as in real life, I cut across. And like a bat outta hell comes this Gallavanter Baller, hits me in the drivers side, and takes off. Getting my car towed this morning. She is not doing well. I also called the police. The license was 45YUO998.

Yeah it's pretty bad, today I was playing and there was a whole row of cars on a curved road because some NPC didn't know how to drive around parked cars. And on the left side way to Paleto Bay the NPCs in the lane ahead purposely crash into me.

about little out there question from me: why do police care if you constantly crashing into same empty car with your car in parking lot yet nobody gives a f*ck if you block traffic and break cars and make them try to get around you and repeating to crash occupied cars, but you can't break empty cars with your car without police trying to kill you!?

Because GTA V cops are mass murdering a-holes and I have no problem throwing a sticky bomb in a crowded donut shop of cops and watching them burn. Otherwise, I have relatives that are cops, and resect them IRL.

when playing gtao i've seen npc's driving the wrong way on the freeway to paleto bay.

I absolutely love the NPC's driving in GTAV. I find it very entertaining, I see some funny ass stuff that just has me rolling sometimes. I find the overall AI the most entertaining in the entire series, loads of laughs to be had. You never know what can happen next. I've had like 6+ regular NPC's brawling it out in the streets together. I watched an NPC walk into a poll once and he turned around and punched they guy behind him. lol.

Traffic in IV was worse IMO. Cars would never sit behind you and wait in traffic, they'd always get impatient and try to drive around you. Also crossing the bridges between Broker/Dukes and Algonguin was always a pain as the cars would just randomly swerve into your lane when you were close for no reason at all.

The traffic in V wasn't perfect either, I always felt cars sped up or slowed down at junctions to purposely make you crash into them.

I think IV had it worse, at least in terms of hitting you when you're trying to drive normally. But to be fair I don't think any GTA has perfect traffic AI.

Well, V does bring lots of improvements, as traffic acknowledges you better now.

The downside is that Rockstar probably decided to add in some Michael Bay-esque sh*t like cars swerving into your path and very untimely timing for intersections. It would've been perfect if

* Cars did not swerve INTO your lane, but the other side

* GTA IV's more natural traffic flow (and not 9/10 intersections having red for you and green for the crossing sides)

* Cars not swerving too much at all. Drivers get spooked so easily.

I just hate how EVERY driver tries running you over when you point a gun at them. You'd think a few would react differently than that.

i've rather seen backing up and then running about 20 meters further out of car, running over is happening if you are near the corner of cars front with little distance and road ahead is almost free (you are being run over since they swerve then into you)

This is another thing that made absolutely no sense. In IV it was perfect. Car jackings were a lot more realistic because you could just point your gun at them and they'd get out after momentarily putting their hands up. I have absolutely no idea why they took this out.

It's far more realistic in V than it was in IV when it comes to car jackings. IRL you will have some people that will submit to a jacking and give you their car, and you will have others that will floor it or mow you down, this is exactly what you see in V. You are giving yourself a false since of reality if you think everyone is just going to give it up like they did in IV.

So how many people have you car jacked at gun point in real life to know this then?

You're also talking sh*t as in V they would ALWAYS try and mow you down, in IV MOST (like 60% of the time) would put their hands up and other times they'd drive at you, so yeah you're wrong kiddo. Fact of the matter is "manual" car jackings were a lot better in IV than they were in V.

Next time don't talk on things you know f*ck all about.

IMO, GTA IV was far more terrible as compared to GTA V traffic, mostly due to the fact that random cars would spawn right behind you and over the corners, even when parked. And that way, GTA V's traffic always seemed to be as an improvement over the IV System. San Andreas had poor AI for traffic as well, mostly in LV and Los Santos where it was impossible to drive without wrecking your vehicle.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. So go talk your smack to someone else that you can pull one over on. LOL

When you have lived in a high crime rate city for most of your life IRL you here of this stuff all the time. I'v also jacked tons of cars in GTA IV and V (bought both games at launch and played them extensively), so I know what I'm talking about. Considering I've jacked tons of cars in GTAV and had tons of the NPC's hand it right over and ton's of them try to mow me down puts a huge, gigantic hole in your argument. Plus I just turned 39 last month so I haven't been a kiddo in decades.

Even though you don't seem like a person worth helping out with your immature behavior and all, I will give you a great tip anyways. Don't use a gun to jack the cars, it is not needed. All you have to do is approach the car close enough to where you can try to enter it. You can be like a car length away to do it. As soon as you try to do it even if the car is pulling away or driving slowly the vehicle will come to a complete stop and you can take it without any issues the majority of the time. Once the car stops approach it quickly because they won't stop for long. I learned this with lots of experience. You just need to play smarter. :)

Do gang members don't count as drivers? Because they tend to get out of the car and shoot at you if you point a gun at them.

Even if we exclude gang members, they don't run you over every time, sometimes they reverse for a bit, then leave their car and run away.

the chance is 1 out of 3 times to get them reversing, i did just a funny video out of it and noticed 3 cars i pointed with gun 2 of then ran my character over and one backed up!

Well, I guess you'll need to post that video here to convince those who think they always run you over.

One, you said you "hear" about this stuff a lot. So you didn't actually see it. Hearing about stuff like this can be different from actually seeing it. Little details can be changed depending on the individuals perspective. Speaking for myself, I'd probably just hand my car over if I was carjacked at gunpoint IRL.

Second, I've yet to have actually steal a car in V without incident so the "gigantic hole in your argument" is kinda dodgey. It may be different for some people but it's hard to tell when every time I try to carjack without incident everyone guns it.

Third, technically this is the best way to carjack in V. This tactic is fairly decent no matter the installment. It doesn't really require experience to do though, something like this in a game where carjacking is a major component would be something that would catch on quickly.

, first car is the backing up type (sticky is weapon as well which you can point) then at 8:14 the one speeding past next is second one to threaten and they try to run over but miss me and also at 8:30 the one was trying to go forward and 4th time is part of 3 next ones in which the backing up car can be any of those but not 1st in that patch, its random about that and therefore you got a chance getting 4 cars between the ones that start going backwards since it might be last one also in next 3 cars. BTW i've seen luck when 3 cars in row get reversing and jam the road! Edited by ACM-Jan

So I'm doing another playthrough of the story and trying to drive realistically. The traffic is crap. I sit at a red light and the millisecond it turns green I get rear ended by a ped behind me. Meanwhile peds will sit at a green light up to seven seconds with no cars in the intersection for them to wait for. This is the enhanced version by the way so I get into traffic jams nonstop.

thats why i like last gen, never seen this, only jam is caused by my mega speed crash when crossing with red

Had some time playing V last few days and gotta say I was right, the traffic (actually, everything regarding vehicles/driving) in this game is completely f*cked up. Traffic is glitchy as hell. AI drivers don't follow about 30% of traffic lights/arrow road markings, and no, it's not about bad drivers in real life, it looks nothing like a f*cking glitch. Cars sometimes disappear like in a goddamn GTA III. AI always crashing into you with no reason, they don't even f*cking try to go around, they PURPOSELY crash into you. A very stupid bug with not closing the vehicle doors is present in this game. Your character often doesn't close the door, your taxi passengers don't do it in 70% of cases. Mouse steering feature has an annoying and serious bug as well. About 30% of parkings in game look like that:

b70rfg7.jpg

Vehicles/driving thing is MUCH worse than GTA IV's. And today it's pretty obvious R* is not going to fix all this sh*t, since they doesn't care about anything but money. Since this moment I don't defend this f*cked up game anymore, and change "my favorite gta" in the profile to Vice City.

I have been driving around on the upgraded last patch of GTAV on PS4.... Built me a custom Cheetah and went on a long Sunday drive. Results...

What I discovered is traffic behind you will go around you depending on your position of the road. I was not hit from behind (Ala GTA SAN ANDREAS) during my trip. I was having a few pedestrians drive around me if I was late on moving during a green light. This is due to me playing around with the camera. When I was ready to move at a green light I had no issues.

Some of you need to remember that Los Angeles has some rather confusing road systems for most Eastern drivers. Don't forget that the game has STOP SIGNS which is giving the AI traffic right away. It seems this is kind of overlooked.

FUN FACT! I just discovered also (Not in any video ) that revving your engine or burning your tires out may cause the pedestrian in the car in front of you to become violent. I had a driver exit the car for a fist fight. I never noticed this until today.

End result....the traffic is NOT glitched. The traffic has NOT become worse because of an update that didn't give you people more single player content.

I don't even understand why this topic is even open, this has to be a troll.

The topic is open because of a dispute. This dispute occurs when somebody has an issue with the game and expects everyone else to have the exact same issue. However, as I have proven tonight...this issue is not one that seems to reflect on the PS4. I have not tested traffic on Xbox one. When a dispute is open like this it's a good idea for members of the board to test such situations.

I have just played the PC copy I have....I have NO issues with it either. The Xbox One has yet to be checked. Once this issue has been resolved by our community it can be easily disposed as operation error on the OP end.

I have already noted before in another thread that Trucks bigger than a sedan DO NOT count in a traffic violation error....as this game does NOT code each sized vehicle to follow a individual coded traffic sequence. This is because it's not possible. Roads in real life are much more elaborate than video games in terms of size. An example is any interstate on ramp. In real life you have at leaat 1/4th mile to merge. In a video game this isn't possible.

Tell that to the NPC's who rear end me regularly for sitting at a green light for 0.5 seconds. No hyperbole either, they literally ram me that much. I'm creating a video out of all this so I should have proof eventually.

Probably due to traffic lights staying red for three minutes while being green for three seconds. And yes, I said three seconds. I am not joking on that. It is that bad for me. I'm doing my damndest to drive "normally" in my current playthrough and I get this nonstop.
