GTA V has the worst traffic AI in the series

No, seriously, V's NPC drivers are even worse than IV's ones. I remember those good old times playing VC and SA, that was perfect traffic. Everybody stops right behind you and can wait forever. Nobody tries to overtake you, to push you, omg, that f*cking Rage engine ruined the 'being the part of the city' gameplay. If you're not in a car and just stay and watch them, everything is cool. But when you're driving, it is like a nightmare. They hit you from every direction. The only two problems with traffic in IV were NPCs crashing into you from behind sometimes and pushing you over after 4-5 seconds staying behind you. I thought that IV's traffic AI is horrible, but V's one is THE WORST ever.

P.S. This regards only those players who like to drive peacefully ometimes, following rules of the road, stopping at red light etc., i.e. being a part of the game world. I've always enjoyed it in VC and SA. But since IV, it is not possible anymore.. :(

P.P.S. Rockstar, you're absolute f*cking morons.

Dunno if it's the worst of the series, but it can get pretty f*cking bad at times. That said, it is hilarious what with the expanded personalities in the game. Honestly, it'd be nice if the driving mechanics and city planning was more polished, but other facets of GTA V probably would have suffered.

Strange! I actually thought it was an improvement over IV. Sure, there are times when the traffic gets annoying but I don't think any GTA in the past were as good as Vs traffic. In fact, IV carries over much of the same problems as SAs traffic but got worse to make the game look like the NY traffic.

But V, I don't find it as annoying as IV. Just my opinion though. It could vary from experiences of player to player including the place and time of occurrence in game.

I think people misjudge the traffic

Firstly, in my opinion, it's a 1000x better than IV. Going down the motorway only to have someone swipe you for no reason, I don't really have in this. At traffic lights, people bib and crash past you.

Doesn't happen in V. Can even race based on aggressive acceleration.

Driving down country lanes and the sudden "turn into you thing" is annoying, but I understand the system now.

It's based on speed and personality of the other driver..

For example.. You're going down a 20 road going 70mph, the other driver can panic f*cks up steering and drives into you. Because of speed.

I tried this theory, and went slow speeds. Never happened.

Like driving round a sharp bend at 70mph, on a 30mph road, a car only sees you late and jumps, is a sh*t driver and crashes into you..

It's weird that creators of GTA, never expanded to general public about the systems in place.. Because people misinterpret..

yet in mission "cleaning out the bureau" traffic never misbehave when you camp few car lengths behind of the janitors car and slowly follow him home! even later getting back to the office with lester no car was hit at 100mph speed all the way back, or i am just good stunt driver!

Sorry but no, I've played IV MUCH MORE than V and I have to disagree, AI in IV is f*cked up too, sometimes even worse, just take a drive through Alderney Bridge and notice how the traffic needlessly switch lanes and crash on each other.

And after reaching the end of the bridge, which is down a slope, 9 times out of 10 they will rear-end you, and if they don't, the driver behind them surely will do it, blame the realistic brakes cars have in that game(the AI was not properly setup in regards to that).

V one ups IV in this, not by a wide margin, but it does.

All in all, I have already came with the terms that we will never have a proper traffic in any GTA game...

San Andreas traffic is far worse than GTAV. The traffic spawning either right behind you or right around the corner leads to my opinion. The bad traffic in these games are part of the games difficulty.

Not to mention how SA's AI copes with the freeway system. The towing company must be rich from the amount of pileups they respond to.

I do feel though that V's drivers are pretty dodgy. There was a video I shared one time where the author tried to drive normally and all of the instances they got rear ended or otherwise damaged by AI drivers. Even at red lights they'd get hit since the AI was so impatient.

san andreas has the worse motorist. bump them by accident and they will go out of their way to run you off the road. the problem with v's ai is they are idiotic or they are vigilanties when ever you commit a crime and are making a getaway they will cut you off or run into you seemingly on purpose. then theres the broken ai drivers that sit at green lights.

It's funny how everybody always fights which game is the worst in driving AI. Any other topic would be full of apologists, but NOBODY defends driving AI in a GTA game

AI in all the GTA games is messed up in different ways. In IV, cars switch lanes on the bridges for no reason and taxis don't know what they are doing.

In V, drivers turn corners instantly, cutting you off and making you crash and they run red lights.

In SA they spawn just behind you on freeways, annoying you with the honking and occasionally rear-end you, other times cars switch lanes for no reason in some places just like in IV and overall they have no concept of collision avoidance.

At least in the HD era, if you crash into another car, they STOP. In 3D era they try to move in exactly the same direction where you try to move to get away, which means they block you further.

It's all a mess is what I'm saying.

Actually there is a reason.

It's to do with improper separation of the two Traffic Paths present on the Algonquin Bridge. You see, the Cars on the Top Deck are 'swerving' out of the way of Trains traveling on the Lower Deck.

I've driven enough times on that Bridge to notice that pattern.

They don't. Right turn on red is allowed now in V.

But they really do in IV. As well as smash your car from behind. Because of f*cked up AI breaking/reaction.

As far as I can remember they do it in exact same point on that bridge every time. Pretty stupid bug. Kind of it exist in V as well. At least in one place

I don't follow. Do you mean it's allowed in LA? Regardless, I've seen enough cars in V run red lights and go straight and do all other kinds of stupid stuff.

Last year I was showing someone who was doing their driver's licence the traffic rules and figured I could use a GTA for that. At first I tried it in V but it didn't work because the AI cars behaved too randomly. In IV I had pretty much no problems, but I was also driving only around Algonquin where the traffic is slow so there's probably less issues with breaking and rear-ending.

In the US, it's generally permitted to turn Right at Traffic Lights, however you must Stop beforehand.

I remember GTA IV with people switching lanes in 0,3 sec for no reason when you came speeding towards them with a 3257902357km/h. Caused some fun crashes.

What are you talking about? The AI is so realistic? Only yesterday, a car stopped a traffic light infront of me that I became so enraged I started backing up and hitting into the back of their car, until I could be in their space.

It's like real life!

I don't care what anybody says. V has the worst driver AI. Not only do they make jagged turns in the corners but they can't corner properly. That first intersection when you're coming up the Great Ocean Highway to turn into Chumash, some idiot AI almost always loses control and veers into my lane and most of the time hits me. And then on curvy roads, when you're driving, the oncoming drivers act scared and actually veer into your lane sometimes and clip you. it's annoying as sh*t.

Not to mention the script. There's always somebody in front of you in the countryside and somebody oncoming at the same time so it's a bitch to pass.

about little out there question from me: why do police care if you constantly crashing into same empty car with your car in parking lot yet nobody gives a f*ck if you block traffic and break cars and make them try to get around you and repeating to crash occupied cars, but you can't break empty cars with your car without police trying to kill you!?

GTA V traffic is programmed to cut you off, i'm certain of this. Maybe Rockstar did it because it looks cool if you manage to dodge them, but when you're driving towards a cross junction the game will load the traffic ahead to set off just before you enter the junction, forcing you to dodge them, like some kind of racing movie scene.

Every AI in every GTA game has bugs.

III, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS, the cars go around turns unrealistically. They turn very quickly. In SA, cars on the highways go way too damn fast. There can be tractors that go at speeds faster than your sports car can go at full throttle. Also, when you piss off a driver in SA, I noticed that they will repetitively run into your car. If you get out and get a different car, they will just keep ramming into the original car. Kinda silly. Also in the III era, cop cars would get massive boosts of speed and rear end you. That was quite annoying. Last, the spawn distance on cars is low. So if someone hits me and I am determined to kill them, they despawn frequently. Last, in SA, planes spawn randomly, and occasionally crash into buildings/trees.

In GTA IV, there are a few things wrong. For one, when you run a red light, I noticed every car beeps their horn every time. It isn't that some cars beep their horn and some don't, they all do it at the same time when the light is red. Try rolling into an intersection and you will see what I'm talking about. Another thing is the random lane changes. If you drive realistically on the bridges, cars will randomly change lanes and hit you on the side. This is very annoying. Another thing is if violence starts occurring, peds don't run away in their cars, they run away.

In GTA V, they greatly improved things, but it still has problems. It is nice that they improved turning, and that they added turn lanes, along with putting the traffic lights on the right side of the street. However, the turn lanes sometimes make the lanes strangely change position suddenly. Especially around the ghetto area of LS. I feel like Rockstar did a little bit of stereotyping. I noticed that women actually drive worse in the game. They run into me more. In V, they tried to make the AI's respond to the player's erratic driving by making them try and avoid collisions. At times, this can cause them to glitch out and run into you. Sometimes when I play, the car in the opposite lane will turn straight into my car causing a head on collision. This is very annoying. My other complaint with V's AI is when the drivers get scared, they will run over peds. They don't try to avoid them. Another bug is, cars do stick around when you get further from them, but peds don't. So sometimes, the ped in a vehicle will change to a different one. GTA V also has the issue of cops gaining sudden bursts of speed and rear ending you. However, cops are a completely different ballpark.

If you're in front of cars and start violence they'll either back up and get out or just get out. If you're behind them, they'll speed off. I noticed that right away.

The pedestrian traffic in Midtown Madness 2 sucked. I was reminded of V's sh*tty driving. when I played it the other day. I think the freeway driving is better in MM2 than GTA V because there's less of a chance of being hit in the most annoying way.

Well, at least V drivers don't rear end you 5 times of 10 and patiently wait if you're staying on red.

In VC and SA, they would do U-turns in the distance, show up randomly doing that as you bash into them, they would constantly - especially in SA - and I do mean CONSTANTLY try to take your lane.

To not get your cars bashed at Luis' place, just park right up with 2 wheels on the curb. No more lost vehicles.

I think we can all agree that no GTA has really nailed traffic A.I. I think R* just likes to troll us to make them the most annoying douche bags ever.

I often loose bikes parked in front of the Middle Park East safehouse because cars crash into them (often cops chasing someone else) and push them out of the way. Although I think the bikes sometimes also move on their own out of the parking spots.
