JagerMan
This is al the info you need to know on the new GTA Development EXCLUSIVE: GTA 4 DEVELOPMENT UNDERWAY! While Rockstar North works on Vice City follow-up, a core team is focusing on the true sequel A core team of five key Rockstar North staff is hard at work designing the true sequel to Grand Theft Auto 3, we can exclusively reveal. While all attention is focused on the Vice City follow-up confirmed by Take-Two for release in the next 18 months, a small team is working through concepts for a totally reworked GTA game for the next-generation of hardware. A highly placed inside source operating under conditions of anonymity told us: "GTA 4 is being designed now by a team of five." The source also confirmed that the next GTA game on console - widely believed to be based in San Andreas - will be the last iteration in the present format. "Expect more of the same as Vice City for that, but GTA 4 will be completely different. "The designers have basically looked at what they want to do and realised they cannot do it with current technology, so they're building it from scratch." As a result "San Andreas" will mark the last use of the GTA3 engine. Unsurprisingly, it's believed Rockstar North is looking to the next-generation of hardware to realise its vision, with PS3 hotly-tipped by those in the know. Don't expect to hear anything official on GTA 4 anytime soon, but the PR machine should start rolling on the Vice City follow-up soon. Meanwhile PC owners will be able to snap up GTA: Vice City for their system on May 16. CVgames

98766654321
i think it might have been in the new psm magazine. on the cover it said something about gta4. but since i dont play my ps2, i decided not to get it. and i couldnt see what was in it, because of the plastic coating around it. aggressor27
Was it neccessary to quote that entire entry? I'm sure it's quite obvious what you were referring to. And I wouldn't pay much attention to what PSM has to say about anything GTA. They were the ones who said there'd be horses and what-not in VC. GTATHUG77
I hope it's all a crock of sh*t or i'll have to buy a ps3 to play gta. which i will.
crap09
I hope it's fake. I don't think they will release a new one until the next system comes out. Actually I think they realeased vice city too close to Gta3; they probably would have been better off waiting a little more. Vice City hasn't even been out for a year, the PC version isn't even out yet, and you want another one already?
Shockwave_NewOrder
they are remaking gta1, we already had LC with 3, and now VC, and next year SA it's not fake, and in fact quite obvious gta4 will be coming a few years later, when ps3 is released, and I expect it to have that long awaited multiplayer mode. I hope it will be a ps3 launch game
Alien18
I would imagine that GTA4 will be a PS3 launch game sicne it is so friggin popular with every1 it will easily help boost sales of the PS3 and give them the upper hand over the XBox2, since no other console will have any launch game that cud ever match up to GTA. Grandthefter
If it is true and it is the proper sequal to GTA3 we will find out what happened to Donald Love. And as it's not in San Andrease i rekon it will be in the neirboring city that you hear on the liberty city radio. What was it called?
Shockwave_NewOrder
the neighbouring city is named Carser City, and with true sequel to GTA3 they can mean that it is all new. quote from the C&VG article: "a small team is working through concepts for a totally reworked GTA game for the next-generation of hardware." and: "Expect more of the same as Vice City for that "(they mean for GTA: SA), "but GTA 4 will be completely different." they also refer to the next GTA (SA) as the follow up to VC, that doesn't mean it continues Tommy's story, it might as well be an all new or continues Fido's story
wolfemaster
whoa this is confusing what will be the next game thats my question!!
mer cinder
well maybe the details are fake, but it's really plausable that they'll revamp the formula for a next-generation system. I guess another gta3 type game on the modern systems would be good to tide us over, but the new formula will be great on a new system... also, the PS2 only clause will soon be over, and I think with the success of the games the'll go mulit-platform. I read somewhere that R* has access to the HALO engine, so I'm really excited about that, maybe a first person gta... drools.......... get me a towel
Exkabewbikadid
Yeah, I don't know how true any of this is, but it sounds logical and it's exactly what I'd like to hear. It would be good to see San Andreas released on the PS2, I guess using the renderware 3D engine one more time. That way all 3 cities from GTA 1 would all be of similar format on the same console. And like I've said so many times before, Rockstar should definately develop a whole new format for the next major GTA, which is supposedly going to be GTA 4. Obviously, as the article implies, this means a whole new 3D engine, new feel to the gameplay, etc. So it should kinda go like this : GTA 1 - Ground breaking original debut to the series on PS One (after pc relaese) -GTA London add-on -GTA 2 - Similar format to GTA 1 GTA 3 - Ground breaking original on PS 2 -GTA VC - Similar GTA 3 format -GTA SA - Similar GTA 3 format GTA 4 - Ground breaking original on PS
GTA3Freak-2001
I think you got it exactly spot on Xcommunicated, the renderware engine can only be used so many times before there isn't much else that can be changed to make the series feel more fresh.
