I was just showing this fun, friendly GTAF event to a buddy of mine here at work. He doesn't play GTA although knows all about it from me lol... He doesn't even really play vids at all with 3 kids in hockey. Somehow our conversation came around to GTA and the characters people use in the game. I told him about the character creator and how you can customize a character to your liking. Miss LS16 popped right into my head of course so I decided to show him the participants. He was pretty blown away by what people can do to make an online character your own.

 

Someone with zero exposure to GTA other than the odd vid I have shown him before was impressed with the efforts people made, to make your own image in a video game. He told me that had never occurred to him, assuming your online image was predetermined. My friend is a Toolmaker who is someone that lives and dies with precision in their work. I thought from someone like that to be impressed with what people have done in GTA's context with regards to character creation says a lot about everyone that entered Miss LS16. You really all did a great job.

 

For the record, I only showed the entrants characters and not the body of messages that came after. Quite frankly, I would have been embarrassed about that part of it.

 

I hope the organizers keep it going in spite of the fallout. Looking forward to next year.

I never commented much, but I will say I'm glad I placed higher than diane mcfarland, after the way she talked trash in the first round.

 

p.s. I'm wondering if XS could give me an honorary award for Being Most Happy diane mcfarlane Was Banned? Not only because of her unprovoked trolling, but also because we won't see anymore snapmatics of her character, the square jawed monkey bat!

Interesting. Here we have the person who created multiple accounts (and were caught) jumping on the case of and openly insulting the person who obviously didn't. Hypocrisy at its finest.

 

I'm honestly glad this contest is finally over; congratulations again to those who won and to all of those who participated. Also, thanks again to those involved in putting it all together. Honestly though, creating multiple accounts like this to skew the polls and more or less ruin the contest, integrity, and voting procedures as a whole ought to have a 0% tolerance policy, and it should most definitely reflect and weigh upon that person's or persons's fate here on the forum with both future posting and participation.

I remember once asking someone in a position of authority why someone was banned once, and was told that "using alternate accounts is a big no-no" ...

 

But I guess that only seems to apply to certain people.

The standard of proof for mods is a bit stricter. And as contest organizer, I take full responsibility for the measures that were or were not taken with those who attempted to undermine it. Regardless of forum rules, GTAF Staff was kind enough to provide us with their platform and efforts in administering and moderating it. And to that end, I took action where I saw fit within the confines of the contest. So without going into detail, only claims that I could corroborate were taken into consideration, and each one of those situations had a "smoking gun" standard.

 

Think of it like a sports league that works within the laws of the land. HGH is a controlled substance if distributed without a prescription, but many times law enforcement will not prosecute because the standard of proof is much lower, and the end result in terms of reputation is damaging enough to deter possession. Not sure if that's a good analogy, but yeah...

It's more like if an athlete is found stone cold guilty of intentionally taking a banned substance, in a low profile but still very much official event. Regardless of how the event organisers feel about the situation the governing body will ban the crap out of that athlete every time. Even if it is Usain Bolt.

That's really where the problem lies. I mean, if we were dealing with decent people, who are generally liked and care about being seen as doing the right thing, and had some dignity - then hurting their reputation would do something to them.

 

But these people take a lot of pleasure in stirring sh*t up, bullying others, etc. They are psychopathic criminals. They probably love the reputation.

 

Obviously people get that you're not a mod though, so it's really out of your hands. Still, when you've seen people banned for being suspected of having duplicate accounts before, or banned for calling themselves a hype train, or "thinking about" certain kinds of vehicles too much, or getting into arguments, etc. then you really have to question why nothing is being done about the people who pick on the innocent, and darken the vibes of forum contests and games like this with their cheating.

 

But there's not a lot to be done here I guess. At the very least, they should be barred from entering contests like this again.

My personal thoughts: From the beginning I totally wanted for GXP to win. Kinda feel like a dumbass that he was my #1 pick going into the 3rd round, I really liked his character/presentation.

Sorry to disappoint, but I had to withdraw, I did see that I was in the 10 spot going into the third, but I wouldn't have been able to participate further anyway, I went to Rock Allegiance and then Wildwood all of last week. I had way too much fun to even think about this contest thing and after peering through a couple of pages, I'm happy I backed out.

I totally could have handled it better but oh well life goes on.

It's such a bummer that people (anyone, no one in particular) had to make multiple accounts just to win a forum game. I've said it before but...damn, it just sucks. Like it's cool that people are committed to win as it makes the contest all worth doing but to the point of cheating? Of having the possibility of being caught? Of having a tainted forum medal and prize? I just can never see myself cheat in any form possible just to win something on the internet, especially if it's a forum game on a forum I spend 96% of my time on. Like how do you cheat and then go back on GTA:O and look at the back of your character's head? How do THEY feel about it, you know? They stood still while you took pictures of them. They got no idea you're cheating for them. Just my two cents, can't be bothered to start an argument over this. It just sucks, that's all.

Either way, tons of respect for everyone that stuck with the comp. Keeping that integrity and self-respect is a big plus in my books. Seriously, it gets said time and time again but amazing job by XS and his team as well as the GtaF staff. It really is a thankless job when you really look at it. People question you constantly but you all do this for fun and as a duty to the forum. You're not getting paid for this (as far as I know...right?!) and just want to spice this section of the forum up. Thank you, everyone who made this possible. I've spent a lot of time in here and I wouldn't swap it for the world.

Well, obviously there is substantial proof of who created multiple accounts and how they were used, so I personally fail to see what else is needed to take action. As mentioned, individuals have been banned or suspended for a hell of a lot less in the past, and if a person goes out of their way to create multiple accounts for the sole purpose of cheating in a forum contest, the writing on the wall should be rather clear. I've been a moderator myself on a forum before, and it isn't difficult to match IPs and the like for additional proof beyond what has already been presented and known about.

 

Not trying to create drama, not trying to tell anyone how to do their job, but shouldn't individuals (no matter who they are or what they've done) be held to the same standards of conduct as anyone else who joins the forum and reads and agrees to the rules and guidelines? This is not a grey area; it's black and white, and I personally find it rather disturbing that certain disruptive and unethical individuals are able to just walk away from what they've done, the insults they have thrown, and the sh*t they have started that clearly goes against the site's rules and code of conduct.

I believe it's a warning for first offenses, I made an account called 'DomsBuddy' and was only given a warning.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that.

 

Its got to be a lot more severe for the 9th offense though. Plus it's not like "the other one" (we all know who) hasn't done this kind of thing before. Also, there was a particularly nasty trick they got up to with one of the accounts.

 

But meh, I guess it's in the mods hands.

Several people have been banned troughout the course this game.

There certainly is done something against those toxic members, along with members who post spam

As for vehicles, i think any single vehicle in this game by now has his specific discussion thread(f*ck only appreciating vehicles) along with a vehicle wishlist thread.

 

Besides all that, so far i know they actually give warnings before banning people....i should know, i have gotten temporarly banned before.

 

Also so far i do not think they can even ban people for just "thinking" about certain things....if so, feel free to explain me how the hell that works.

Needless to say, I got one or two posts off before getting caught and warned.

back in the day on youtube i still would use it to still replie to idiots who blocked me right after some witty insults or other stupid behaviour, but meh....

though i got 2 like those on here, i do not really care that much...butthurts are butthurts no matter what.
