Graphix14
No replies from international members please! I live in the US. I currently have a '98 Nissan Maxima. Great car, known for good engine and transmission. I've had it for the past 3-4 years. I'm starting to get bored of it. Not in a rush to get a new car yet, but looking for ideas on what to get for a daily driver. I have a budget of $5000 ($5500 is do-able but pushing it). I really like the Infiniti G35x, but it's a v6 which I am not interested in due to commuting to 2 jobs. Some ideas I have had was the Honda Civic or Accord, Acura TL or CL, Mazda 3 or 6, Nissan Altima.. etc. I'm more into import cars. Any responses would be appreciated. Looking for something under these conditions: Cannot be a Volvo / Saab / Subaru (unless a certain model doesn't have head gasket issues) Cannot be a truck/suv Automatic Sedan/Coupe/Hatchback 4 Cylinders Is between years of 2001-2006 Reliable and parts are easy to find / are somewhat affordable Edited September 9, 2016 by Graphix14
sivispacem
Yeah, trying to exclude international members probably isn't the best idea given the majority of regulars in this section are international. So, it sounds to me like economy is the biggest consideration, along with reliability. You say 4 cylinder but don't mention anything about petrol or diesel; if you're doing lots of miles the latter might be worth considering. Out if interest, what "head gasket" issues do you think Subarus, Volvos and Saabs suffer with? Seems like a bit of a sweeping generalisation. Graphix14
I don't want someone from Europe saying get a such and such and it's not sold over here in the states. Has to be petrol, and only Subaru I am relating to the HG issues. From doing little research, some Foresters and Legacys have had problems with that. Mainly due to the way the engine design is. Dottie
Welp your criteria for are a car are quite (by quite I mean very) boring to begin with(even compared to your current car), but here are some cars that meet it (ish):Ford FocusChevy CobaltMazda 3 Honda Civic Mini Cooper Any Scion (xA, xB, tC, xD) Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix (one is probably more common in your area) Subaru Impreza (obviously not the fun versions) Mazda Miata NA or NB (NAs are astronomically cheap but Id recommend in manual) Toyota Camry Id recommend doing research on these and probably some other cars I have not listed. Also test drives to make sure the car suits your driving style. I'd honestly not limit yourself to just automatic though. Manual make the car less boring
Outcast
I'd honestly not limit yourself to just automatic though. Manual make the car less boring Probably can't drive a manual. He is American, after all. (I joke!) You always get something about how there's a lot of stop/start traffic where they are and that driving a manual is very tiring blah blah blah well let me just say that Central London traffic is pretty bloody atrocious, even that short jaunt from the City to Canary Wharf is pretty bad most days and everyone seems to handle a manual just fine. Even in Asia, I daily a manual. Instead of lifting your right foot off the accelerator to inch forward, you lift your left foot. I don't see how that's more tiring. PeasantGaming > U
I had a bunch of cars that I could recommend but he said Automatic only. Also his budget is good for 90's cars in good condition. Anything from the 2000's in that price range will be beat to sh*t.
