Games you like, but others don't

Please post more than just the title. At least explain why you like the game. It's an absolutely pointless exercise in posting just the title. It says nothing other than you like a game others don't. May as well write that down on a piece of paper and throw it in sea.

2. GTA IV/ V- Although I criticize GTA IV in the past for not having a lot of content and feeling too down Earth for a GTA game, I still never understood the hate for it. Although they removed a lot of features that you had in San Andreas, it has it's own thing going for it and that's it's physics system. It outshines a lot of OWG to this day in a lot of categories when it comes to realism. That's what I like about it. The hate cycle continues to this day with GTA V. People often bash GTA V because some people wanted it to be more like San Andreas while others wanted it to be more like IV. When it's technically a mix between the both of them. The only thing I agree with them on is they should've focused more on the SP aspect and brought in some DLC for that instead paying attention to Online. But GTA V has a great SP. Infact it has more content than all the GTAs except San Andreas. Not to mention how smooth and responsive the mechanics and controls are.

This is why I've eased off on the GTA V bashing. Although I never really hated it as such anyway, but I think I was blinding myself from appreciating its unique merits.

For me, that game would be Sonic 06. Yes, it’s a buggy mess, but the game has a certain scope and ambition about it that deserves respect, especially with the series’ current direction of self-deprecating cringe comedy, nostalgia pandering and short length with zero replay value. If it had been given more development time, it could have been at least decent.

Battlefront (2015). I loved the simplicity in the gameplay. Perhaps even more than Battlefront II.

I wouldn't say Battlefront 2015 is bad, just underwhelming and disappointing.

It's a fair point. But, many people said it was bad, gameplay wise. As it was quite barebones and simplistic.

Assassin's Creed Unity. I still find that thing more ambitious than the things Ubisoft create today. It's a failed attempt sure, but I still think Ubisoft still "cared" at the time. I enjoy that game more than the modern ACs.

Mechwarrior 5. Everything except for the combat is mediocre at best, but blowing up mechs is so much fun.

Alpha Protocol. Game is a glitchy buggy mess but I love it.

I found myself strangely entertained by Hotel Mario on the Philips CD-i.

Controls are a bit bizarre but once I got my head around them, the game was surprisingly fun. I'd have played for even longer if my console had the memory backup thingymajig to save my progress.

Fallout 76, it's a crappy buggy mess but it's also a Fallout game that you pretty much play with friends and it has some stuff that I enjoy.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakening and Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis. I wouldn't use the term 'bad' exactly, but I don't recommend them without warning a person about the broken and just generally obtuse puzzle design.

Also, if we can speak in the past tense, Assassin's Creed II, because I no longer enjoy it. When I first played it, I got a lot of enjoyment out of following Ezio's journey through space and time, interacting with the characters, and learning a few new things about Renaissance Italy, but I was still constantly disgusted by the actual gameplay. After playing it again (blowing through the story unlike the first time, doing only what was necessary) I realize that it's just not a good game, and I can't enjoy it.

A game lives--or dies--on it's gameplay. I really don't think many people will have any desire to play through ACII in another 5 years, or 10 years, or 20 years. (I don't mean to single out ACII...there are other games I feel the same way about.)

Mass Effect: Andromeda.

I only started to play it after it was patched. I still think it's a good game. But it was objectively bad at the beginning. But after patches, meh.. I think it's great.

It's probably worth noting that I had no expectations and had only watched people play Mass Effect and only played Mass Effect 2 (didn't finish it) and never played 3. Suffice to say I wasn't in the loop when it came to the Mass Effect series.

Call Of Juarez: The Cartel.

It was heavily criticised for departing  the Western theme, racism and for being a buggy, glitchy mess yet I still enjoyed it enough to finish.

WWE 2K20.

Maybe I was fortunate to buy it only a few months back and didn’t really encounter the nasty bugs and glitches associated it (still came across a few, but they were pretty minor).

I liked the originals dlc packs too.

Although I’ve never played it I’ve always wanted to play Rogue Warrior.

It looks like my type of game with Mickey Rourke swearing off the top of his lungs every few seconds lol.

Goldeneye: Rogue Agent for the PS2, a fps set in the James Bond universe, you play an ex M16 agent working for Auric Goldfinger against Dr No.

Combat was just okay and story wasn't great but I still had fun, partly due to the superpowers your cybernetic eye gave you, ability to fling enemies like fus ro dah in Skyrim and a shield that blocks bullets, yes both these abilities came from a cybernetic eye, I know the Bond universe can be a little wacky but this is cyperpunk shít.

Saying that those two abilities were fun and there were some cool guns, duel wielding rail guns and a pistol that fired a mini explosive that you could detonate remotely. Mediocre game really but it had something that kept young me playing.

Edit

Protagonist looks like a pr0n parody of Adam Jensen from Deus EX.

Is this The Guy?

Dead Island.

Very buggy, terrible leveling system, and a auto save bug that can cause you to lose hours of progress.

But I still had a lot of fun playing the game.

heavy rain

it has an awkward story, but i still had a lot of fun with the gameplay and interacting with the environment.

plus it spawned memes such as "JAYSUUUN", "SHAAAAAAAAAAAUN!", "agent nahmen jayden, FBI" and my personal favorite, "FU*KIN' ASSHOLE"

I know it's considered one of the biggest letdowns in gaming, and sucked the air out of the franchise completely, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy this game. The cutscene dialogue is actually pretty good even if the story is scattershot, and the overall aesthetics of the game are good. Sometimes, it reminded me of Miami Vice, the 2006 film. Glitches are abundant, many are inconvenient, a lot of them make you smile. It's hard to objectively rate it.

mafia 3

I can see why people dont like it, and it is undoubtedly a repetitive, glitchy and buggy mess with no option to save multiple files, but it makes up for its flaws with its fun gunplay, excellent driving, beautiful setting/atmosphere and a soundtrack and storyline that surpasses many hollywood films, with some of the best acting and presentation of the time period i've seen in any medium. now imagine if 2k had given hangar 13 at least another year to refine and rework the mechanics of the game, it would probably be one of the greatest games of all time.

Lock n' Stock

I wouldn't say it was exactly "disliked", it's more or less completely forgotten if anything. However, I had a real fondness for this game back on the PS2 (it was on the Dreamcast as well). Basically a third-person shooter with cartoon animals shooting the crap out of each other, funny sh*t.

Hatred.

I still remember the topic about this game in this forum and all the controversy it caused. And even though today I like the game, I think it deserves a lot of the criticism it got. Not a very good product overall, with poor controls and very glitchy. But to be honest, I couldn't find any other shooter that helped me relieve stress as good as Hatred does. Whenever I have a frustrating day, I fire it up at night before sleep.

Last of Us: Part 2. The game honestly doesn't deserve the hate. It's up there with God of War and Uncharted 4 as the best PS4 exclusives (while not being better than those 2).
