Games you like, but others don't

GTA IV (including EFLC) - my all time favourite, can´t understand how anyone can dislike the game, but tastes differ

Mafia 2 - absolutely underrated, love the vibe of the game, still one of my favourites

Halo 3 ODST - I think many hate it because there´s no Master Chief and you are a "normal" human being instead of an Spartan super warrior. But that´s exactly what makes the game a breath of fresh air in the Halo series.

Halo Reach - Perhaps one of the most underrated games ever. Don´t know why it received so much hate, is it because of the very serious vibe or because there´s no Master Chief again? Love the story and how you more and more get the feeling of fighting a losing battle as your comrades in the Noble Team get sacrified one after another.

"Mother....we can´t get past this, sir!"

"No you can´t...not without help."

"Commander! You don´t have the firepower!"

"I´ve got the mass..."

"...solid copy...hit 'em hard, boss..."

"You´re on your own Noble...Carter out..." *crashes into Scarab*

Sorry if someone has mentioned this already but another good question is "Games you don't like but others do!" :D

For this thread I'd say , the Saboteur, the Division , Deus Ex second and third ones and Sniper Elite games!

Now that you mention it, I was a bit surprised to see so much criticism retroactively leveled at Human Revolution recently. Not that it's a flawless game that doesn't deserve any criticism, but I was seeing so much bile thrown its way this summer, when back in 2011 I remember most people regarded it as an unexpectedly worthy successor to the first game. Strange. For all the games vindicated by history and the Zelda Cycle working its magic over and over again through the years, it's interesting to see a game that was initially praised and now has critics turning against it.

Since we're on the topic, I'd bring up Mankind Divided too. The reception ranged from lukewarm to positive-with-reservations, but for me, this game is shaping up to be my personal GotY this year.

watchdogs

Man,don't hide it..............more people are starting to like this game.

Indeed. It's so insane how much hate WD got, pretty much for no reason other than the marketing crap Ubisoft pulled. The game is great. I'm now playing through the Bad Blood DLC and am reminded again how good the whole game is.

And what surprises me even more is how everyone is now psyched about WD2 despite all the flak against WD1.

So yea, +1 for WATCH_DOGS :)

Aliens Colonial Marines.

Hear me out.

Given the insane number of delays/cancellations/resurrections this game had in its DNF-style development cycle, I was always timorous about rushing out and getting it day one. So I held off and watched in awe as the backlash gathered momentum, but being a massive Aliens fan, I still wanted to play it. I mean, I'd have been happy with a cheap Doom 3 knockoff with an Aliens reskin (actually, that would have been better than what we ended up with, but I digress). Less that three weeks later, they were selling the limited edition with the cool powerloader figurine and the plasma pulse rifle DLC on Amazon for £20 (RRP £110, I sh*t you not), so I slapped down my 20 notes and had an absolute blast playing through the poorly-written, buggy mess of a game, laughing my ass off at how woefully they'd treated the licence (the fact that it's now considered canon just cracks me up), but most importantly, I had fun. So much so that I went back and replayed it to get all the collectibles. I'll admit, had I paid full whack for the game (even the standard £40 one) on day one, I'd probably have felt somewhat aggrieved, but my expectations were already low by the time I picked it up, and that figurine has pride of place on my games room shelf.

Moral of the story, manage your expectations, and stop preordering games*.

I like to play Minecraft with my online friends. It's a great relaxing game to play with your friends when you don't feel like playing GTAO, or any other game with them. However, if your friends are like my friends, then more than likely you will probably get your sh*t burnt down and destroyed and just totally be a dick to one another. Like when I lead two creepers into my friend's home while he was afk. Little things like that...

Fallout 4. New Vegas is the best one, I know. But this game seems to constantly get shat on. I do hate that 2/3 of the DLC was Settlement based but the story DLC is my favorite in the series, only being second to Fallout 3;s The Pitt story. I love this game more than Skyrim that's for sure, I've never finished Skyrim.

Reach is hated? Me and my friends love it, Reach was the last Halo we all played together as none of the newer ones are interesting enough to play more than once.

Resident Evil 6

I just do, no comment.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Yes, I liked the game before it was cool. People complained about Raiden, I never saw it as a huge problem. It was nice to play as someone else, someone who idolized Solid Snake, just to see him use infinite ammo bandana at the end.

Besides, Kojima was on point with some of the things, that last codec conversation is almost like prophecy, our individual right being taken away, net censorship, meaningless bullsh*t on social media slowing social progress. Rights of criminals are given more respect, yes we're looking at you hitlery clinton.

Dead or Alive 5. Being called and hated as pervert game by non-players, especially SJW. I often get stereotypically called as 'pervert' for playing this game. Oh well. Tell you what, I enjoy this game because this fighting game was very noob friendly to play and offers good, responsive game control experience in a fighting game. Unlike other fighting games that make me go back n forth to move list or you end up punching like a retard, this game's like saying "welcome, just try and take it easy" to me.

I know right, just because your character looks like this...

doa5u_intimate_ayane__13_by_kriccena-d7n

...doesn't make you a pervert, and I've heard some feminist or SJW called DOA5 VR a "sexual assault simulator"

Yea DOA5 got a lot of hate for being noob friendly, but if you actually got the know hows and learn combos it starts to kill people. I considered myself good with Brad Wong, but always admired the Hayabusa players who mastered him. The things they did to me :panic:

Do people really not like IV? I mean I think it's a hugely flawed game and the tone throughout is just a little too bleak (TLAD took this to the extreme) but it's a good game. Like V, it has massive flaws but when viewed on its own and not as a part of the franchise, it's an incredible game. It just gets a lot wrong.

I never really noticed the hate for GTA IV, maybe didn't come across the haters. Personally I had a good time with the singleplayer, yea it lacked in some activities but multiplayer was tons of fun.

Maybe because I live in NYC I had that connection idk, the bleakness is part of it's charm hehe.

how about because it's halo which is fake and no one wants it for the same reason all IW sales will be for CoD 4?

Halo made sales on the first gen xbox. Made some sales, but less, on every gen or release after - halo is corny.Only nerds like it. It's stupid.

CoDIW will only Sell CoD4 copies - watch. Mark my words: people will only be playing CoD4, which is sad as f*ck.

Fake sh*t is corny. We don't want it. same reason IW will FAIL.

And the video you posted made me hate halo even more. Halo is for NERDS. FACT. HALO IS FOR LOSERS.

Kek.

If Halo is super-geeky now, I take that as a compliment. Without a hint of sarcasm, honestly. Thank you.

I remember the days when Halo was the biggest dudebro series around and everyone hated how many Chads it attracted. You couldn't even talk about it at certain websites without being bashed into oblivion. How the things change.

Anyway, I don't hate CoD. Quite the opposite. It does its particular thing really well, just like Halo does its. That's why I don't like the future CoD either, it moves away from what CoD is best at. But if we're talking about fiction in general, I'll always take a sci-fi with a rich and vast lore, full of complex alien civilizations and fantastic technology, with potential for stories that explore multitude of various viewpoints on the setting other than just from the badass space marines and stories that explore these civilizations's tensions amids galactic-scale genocide, elder gods ravaging the universe and super-advanced arrogant precursor races screwing around with them all the time over vanilla military action CoD provides.

Batman Arkham Origins. Just replaying it now and I think its the strongest of the series. The story is fantastic (superior tot he Rocksteady's stories), Roger Craig Smith & Troy Baker give great performances, the boss fights are epic, like the christmas vibe a lot and of course the soundtrack is really good too.

Especially this theme:

Not exactly fond of, but I do like Mafia III.

It's also funny that this game has the same situation as my town's governor and his vocal haters. Both are different, both made different works, both are imperfect, both are willing to improve for everyone, both get nitpicked, and both have opposing people who always pop up, take everything that's contrary to their beliefs as absolutely wrong, talk too much but not constructive, want the subject to disappear, filled with the kind who would shout based on another shouts, and always take themselves as true members of the community who know everything better.

Lol. It's alarming, funny, and depressing at the same time.

  • Call of duty 2- many of my friends dislike it for its "oldness" and not being able to sprint but i liked it for its story
  • Call of duty ghost - campaign was amazing
  • dead island- i mostly play because of the modded weapons i got.

Mafia III, Yes it's rough around the edges but the narrative of the game is top notch and it did a fantastic job of capturing the late 60s atmosphere I really liked it from start to finish.

Battlefield Hardline, it had its flaws but I still thought it was a mostly very solid & enjoyable shooter which deserved better than the mixed reviews it got.

Watch Dogs, as already mentioned several times, the hate it gets blows my mind I liked it more than the sequel myself.

While I agree about DOA5, the one that was called a sexual assault sim is not it. It was DOA Xtreme 3 that was called that.

I mean if someone who never heard of the game (which is beach simulator with babes) they would think its about sexual abuse.

I know that people are okay with IV nowadays - first, it's been eight years, for Christ's sake, only the most severe fan grudges last this long; and second, this forum might be the biggest IV fan haven on the internet, so of course people will be more positively inclined here.

But the insecurity and defensiveness came from somewhere. I remember 08 and 09. I wasn't here, on these forums, so I can't speak about the state here, but I remember how bad things were elsewhere. The negativity against V might be bad, but at least it's more or less contained here. The negativity against IV? You couldn't get away from it. Every single discussion about the game, wherever you went, was poisoned by it. It was lambasted exactly as Watch Dogs is now. So, of course the people who were engaged in those sh*tstorms still feel as if IV is the one universally hated black sheep.

To cite a point Haytham made a few months back in 2008/2009 it felt different. A lot of that "everyone hates GTA V" feeling GTA V fans have is what GTA IV fans had about GTA IV..

I remember the GTA IV forum being as toxic (if not more) as the GTA V forum during its peak of activity. As Haytham said atleast with GTA V it's possible to go on other forums to get away from the negativity. GTA IV got it from both ends on this forum AND other places too.

Of course it's not as bad as it used to be because GTA IV's nearly 9 years old and it seems silly to drag it through the mud after all this time, but the negativity still has its roots.

It was irritating how GTA v threads were derailed by the GTA 4 peanut gallery. It was trollish in the least.Exactly. I remember reading somewhere in the forums about the need for so much negativity towards GTA V. Quite simply because of all the negativity towards their favorite GTA IV during release, and now its turn for V fans to suffer. I couldn't decide whether to laugh or to cringe. Payback : The time for Revenge, like seriously?!?

Not saying that genuine critique didn't come from many GTA Veterans/fans, but the strong possibility, as you rightly pointed out, posts that tend to distort certain things about GTA V to make it more inferior to GTA IV, and derail or cause more harm simply because GTA IV was getting a lot of flak during its time, ALSO exists.

Additionally, I disagree that the time has passed to criticize GTA IV or any game for that matter because its "...[ insert ] years old"!!!

Such a notion makes sense for factors that are beyond developers control or capacity, For instance, hardware limitations. It doesn't makes sense with respect to the games design, features, world building, missions and several other factors, especially when GTA IV's budget and production values in graphics and physics stands out from other games with smaller budget, and yet "other games" feel vastly superior in many aspects, that makes GTA IV still stuck in the past when it should have been improved by 2008.

Check out my profile page to read point-by-point and understand what makes a game released in 2002 and made by just 20 people or so, still feels a vast improvement over a game released a 2008. There are other games released prior to 2008 also feels great to play.

Even GTA V gets compared to many modern games of its time, then why should any one treat GTA IV as "something special".

"Number of years" can't be used as an excuse to immunity from criticism, or justifying all the wrong things, especially when Rockstar games get away with what other developers don't, case in point: Mafia III!

Its also important to expose the mediocrity of certain games, irrespective of the time and date of release, to make new players understand and realise that certain games are overly exaggerated for things that others games should receive more appreciation, but because of brand Rockstar they never get the credit they deserve.

@ topic:

Sacred 2. Another underrated gem that got a lot of criticism but its a great game in many ways. It got the map bigger than skyrim, a huge amount of content with a complex character development and a variety of skills. Its the only hack and slash gane that I still find a lot of fun to play.
