Please post more than just the title. At least explain why you like the game. It's an absolutely pointless exercise in posting just the title. It says nothing other than you like a game others don't. May as well write that down on a piece of paper and throw it in sea.

A Sign Of The Times felt too out of place IMO like it was trying too hard to throw in some horror like elements and I love horror.

I thought the DLC was great and very much in place.

I would disagree it was going for horror. I would say Sign of Times was going for horror as much as True Detective season 1 was. Cults which I think is a very real and problematic thing at the end of the 60's and going into the 70's. Also you had people baffled by things like the Zodiac killer.  I don't think of it like that. Cults as a theme in shows is great. Remember True Detective series was superb and was huge hit 2-3 years before Sign Of the Times. And the investigative element they added was inspired, I'd say by L.A. Noire.

I'd say Sign of The Times was paying homage to True Detective. That's how I took it.

Life is Strange - i think the atmosphere of this game is pretty nice and warm. Seriously, i'm still like the Arcadia Bay and surrounding locations. Storyline, despite of some holes, is interesting. Political agenda is exist, but not highlighted (unlike second part).

The whole time-shift system it's interesting gameplay feature, sadly that developers failed to make a proper story explanation of some holes connected with it.

Life Is Strange was one of those games I stumbled across by accident, but it made me interested in this genre with a heavy emphasis on story choices and minimalist gameplay.

It was such a roller coaster of emotions. One of the few games that made me genuinely cry.

Before The Storm was ok, but felt a little unnecessary even as a prequel. I couldn’t get into 2 for some reason. I think I made it about 3 episodes in and just gave up.

Finally someone that gets me.

That scene in the opera house was literally a shot for shot of the tape scene in true detective.

Makes me wish hangar 13 could have made a full game surrounding the ensanglante tbh

I'm glad you saw the connection too. I actually wasn't even aware of the direct homage to the tape scene. I need to rewatch it.

I just installed Mafia III because of this thread and now I'm definitely going to re-watch True Detective.

Edit: Ah, yes. Watched the scene. Yeah.

Life is strange was alright. I hated most of the characters(especially Chloe) but they were well written. The main thing I liked about the game was the atmosphere. It really captured the college atmosphere well and I really liked the art direction

It kinda took me back to the days when I was in high school as strange as that sounds.

And yeah. I really like the art direction. It’s much more interesting than just typical 3D IMO. Sort of like a blend of the Telltale Walking Dead games (though not quite as “graphic comic” looking) and something more like a realistic looking 3D game.

Need For Speed Payback is pretty good if you can ignore the issues with the speedcards mostly. The AI rubber bands occasionally but you can still beat most of the races with a car that's below the recommended stat. It's pleasant compared to most games where "below/above recommended" are essentially "instant loss/winnable".

Out of the three Ghost Game NFS's, Payback has the best off-roading mechanics by far, which is good since 60% of the map is roughly off-road. The story is okay, maybe have some better voice acting although the Gambler was a fine character. I kind of wished they followed up the story in Heat since they just abandoned it afterwards.

Payback is kinda like a slightly worse Heat but considering how many people like Heat, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Really? I thought people liked this game. It's one of the most unique games that I've ever played. Anyway...

Beyond Two Souls. I know a lot of gamers think this was an inferior sequel to Heavy Rain, but for me it is the other way around. Beyond is a superior game IMO, with a more coherent story and better characters. The soundtrack and the graphics are incredible.

Mass Effect 3 (with DLCs). I don't disagree that the original ending was crap and enraging, but I think the DLCs fixed most of it. And even without the DLCs the game itself is pretty good (with the exception of the ending of course).

Need For Speed 2015. The best NFS since Carbon and the best among the recent ones. Yes, the story is nothing special and it's always night and raining. So what? The old classics were pretty much the same. The fans are demanding too much of a simple street racing game.

Marvel's Avengers. The live-service thing is bullsh*t, but the main campaign is quite decent. It's not a great game by any means, but it is not as bad as some say it is and it has some merits. I don't know of any other Avengers game of this magnitude and Marvel Ultimate Alliance ain't that great either.

If Squeenix/Crystal Dynamics scrapped the looter shooter aspect of Avengers, doubled the length of the campaign and made the live service a season pass with new characters + hours of story releasing at the usual rate they'd have had a very solid 8.5-9/10 on their hands. Instead, they released a good 10ish hour campaign that was tacked onto a very, very poor looter shooter, all in a package that was absolutely riddled with technical issues - it was by far away the most broken game I've ever played on PC. It felt like Crystal Dynamics wanted to make the single player but Squeenix/Marvel(?) wanted the live service game, so they settled on a middleground or something. It failed miserably, sadly.

Anywho, here's one, if anyone remembers it: Brink

It was one of the last attempts of any shooter I've played to actually evolve the genre and do new things. Sadly it had one too many issues, both technical and gameplay, to really set the world on fire.

Mafia 3. This game sure is flawed, but damn, it sure has tons of redeeming qualities that get criminally overlooked to this day, from the 1960's setting, which is fresh as it hasn't been done very much in open world games, and the badass soundtrack that completely makes justice to the era, to the excellent gunplay mechanics, which are surprisingly fluid and satisfying, with smooth controls, very well done brutality and animations, and a lot of room for creativity on it, Lincoln Clay is a beast to play as, practically a black southern version of the Punisher, not to mention the driving, which I consider the best in any city open world of the 8th generation. Story is ok, not bad, it has pretty good dialogue and interesting characters, but still a little bland in some aspects, but the DLC's kinda complete it. Most of the main story sure is repetitive, but if the gameplay loop is enjoyable and has some sort of progression, that repetition can be pretty good, and that's the case with Mafia 3 in my opinion, this game could have been better in general, but what we have, after all the patches, expansions and extra content, is a worthy experience.

I love almost all Harry Potter games, especially the early ones and still play them from time to time. I am not even the biggest fan of Harry Potter books/movies (anymore) but the world is just so fascinating to me. The games themselves aren't the best in terms of gameplay, but my love for the world makes me forget the shortcomings and just enjoy the atmosphere of the Harry Potter universe. It's not even for nostalgia reasons, I played some of them just a few years ago. The early games have their own charm, I prefer that to the more series tone of the later instalments in the series, but I like those too. My favourite:

So yeah Hogwarts Legacy is my most anticipated game...ever. I have never been so excited for a game before. The possibilities for an open world RPG in HP world are endless.

I had fun with Homefront when it came out. Was a blind purchase. The whole North Korea thing wasn't the most in depth storyline in the world, but it was different. The online was a decent alternative to CoD and Battlefield.

I was going to mention the game on here until you mentioned it. You pretty much took the words out of my mouth.

I’d say the game is worth getting right now especially with the DLC missions now automatically being included with the Definitive Editon. Now you can break up the repetitive racket missions by doing the DLC missions occasionally along with some races. Even then, I didn’t mind doing the repetitive racket missions because they were always fun to do at least for me they were. Besides, the story and combat was worth pushing through them.

I could sit here for hours and talk about Mafia 3 but I don’t think this is the thread for it. The game just needed more time in development imo and maybe it would have been at its very best. But IMO, it’s already sorta there.

Farcry 5

I think it's great because it is set in America, kinda bringing some fresh air to the series, also something familiar to us, the refrence, the music, the cars, even the cult, it feels like taking a part in Branch of The Davidians conflict you know? I kinda like something that we can relate to (pop culture refrence)

Kinda wish that they would make it as a 3rd person shooter too you know, like Ghost Recon, or GTA V perhaps, with its 3rd person and 1st person POV

COD: BO3.

people seem to dislike the futuristic style, but I thought it was fun and fast paced. Going for dark matter on that game was so fun, I want to get it again!

Word. Most of my friends dislike Far Cry 5, but I think it's the best one in the series overall. I got Far cry 3 and 5 a year after they came out. But, Far Cry 5 always felt fresh and smooth to me.

The graphics are okay and the gameplay is really fun. The world has a story of its own, too. The characters are not as engaging and intense as Vaas, but they're believable.

I really loved Battlefield V. If they didn't market it as an accurate WW2 shooter and instead do an alternate history or universe take on the war then I think the reception would have been a lot more positive.

I loved the guns, the high level of character customization, and though the atmosphere wasn't as great as BF1 for obvious reasons, I think the general chaotic Battlefield feel was still there. The revive system and the slide mechanic was also a vast improvement over 1, and it made the game feel much more fast paced.

I just wished it had more maps and factions to play as.

I've found couple of more games that are definitely on my list. To be clear I used metacritic as score comparison. I know it's not a good page, often review bombed by the players, who lower the score for some inane reasons, but it gives more or less pretty clear image what games were considered bad. I list only these I liked, and which user score is below 4.9 (since 5.0 is pretty much mediocre game, but not exactly bad).

Games hated by both critics and players:

- Dead Space Ignition for PS3 - (30/3.6 score) - I admit it wasn't anything special and it's a shame that was so much of a cash grab from Dead Space fans, but if we consider the game just an add-on for Dead Space 2 with the only reason of existence to give player hacker suit it wasn't that bad. It was decently sized, have couple of nice puzzles and good reward on the end. As a standalone game it was total crap, but I believe it was given for free for pre-ordering the game and in this case it was worth playing once to get the suit for Isaac.

- Driv3r for PC - (40/3.5) - I got it some time ago, completed it twice and I can't say it was wasted time. Sure, game was pretty buggy and didn't have anything that wasn't done in GTA series before, but it was still nice title to play. Driv3r had great driving mechanics (much better than GTA), three different, decently sized cities and interesting story with good cast. If it only spent more time on qa tests, it could be really good, well reviewed game.

- Big Mutha Truckers 2 for PC- (44/2.8) - Much worse than the first part, but it was still nice game if someone craves for arcade truck driving with crude redneck humor. I played it on PC and I don't recall any technical issues. Its only problem in my opinion is the fact that it didn't really bring anything new over its predecessor, but that doesn't really make it terrible.

- Terminator Salvation for Xbox 360 - (48/4.9) - Quite typical movie game, made to score a quick buck from movie premiere, but despite that wasn't that terrible. It was quite nice, cover shooter set in Terminator world, with only problem being its length. These game are not made to last, however, and Terminator gave me quite a fun for these couple of hours.

Games considered mediocre by critics and hated by players:

- Kickbeat Special Edition for PS4 (I've played it on Xbox One, but that edition wasn't rated) - (60/4.3) - I've bought it for like 1,75$ and it's a quite good and refreshing game combining beat'em up with rhythm games. It's hard, it's challenging and it has short, but really fantastic soundtrack with tracks from Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Papa Roach, etc. This game may be nothing special, but by playing it, I've learned about FiXT label, which I love to this day and regularly buy albums and merch released by them. And the game itself maybe quite short, but try to beat all the tracks for maximum score. I bet You need godlike reflexes to do it. I know I haven't got one myself, but still it was worth the price and time spent while playing it.

- Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox One - (61/4.9) - This maybe a bit controversial, but I love this game despite its issues. I haven't been so emotionally invested in a video game in a long time, literally missing its characters, like they were my real life friends. Love the atmosphere, love the soundtrack, love the story. Sure there are a lot of shortcomings and missed opportunities, but the fun I had in the end matters the most for me, and I had a lot of it.

- Wolfenstein: Youngblood for Xbox One - (68/2.5) - I heard so much how this game sucks, how bad it is, how it shouldn't be even called Wolfenstein, but since it was available in Game Pass I decided to give it a chance. It wasn't obviously as good as Wolfenstein: The New Order, but I would risk a statement if it wasn't better than Wolfestein II: The New Colossus. Paris featured in Youngblood was quite cool, killing nazis was fun and the RPG elements gave it a bit of freshness. There was also quite fun weapon upgrade system, with various parts and skins to choose from. I liked this game so much that I practically completed everything in it, except some challenges, which were forcing too much backtracking. Sure the two hipsterish Blazkowitz sisters were annoying through much of the game and the main antagonist was quite weak, but it was solid game after all. Perfect for single completion.

Games liked by critics and hated by players:

- Mortal Kombat 11 for Xbox One - (86/3.3) - Interesting example of review bombing as there is nothing in particular wrong with this game. It had decently sized single player content, a lot of customization, decently sized storyline and gruesome fatalities. Basically everything You would expect from Mortal Kombat game. From what I believe people were hating it for microtransactions, which I haven't used even a single time, while unlocking all the gear I wanted for characters I played. Really solid fighting game for single player.

The Lawnmower Man (SNES) - The bulk of the game consists of side scrolling run 'n' gun action that is average. But where it really shines is in it's sheer amount of variety. On-rails VR missions where you traverse in first-person sometimes third-person similar to Space Harrier, top-down view shmup segments, puzzle solving similar to taking an IQ test, a driving mission and probably some other stuff I can't remember. The music was composed by Allister Brimble and it's amazing. One of the best video game soundtracks I've heard. The learning curve is very steep and the game is challenging. But once you adapt to the controls, learn the patterns and get your reflexes to a good level, it's enjoyable. Played the game, didn't see the movie.

Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade) - Considered the black sheep of the Mortal Kombat arcade games. It was the first Mortal Kombat fighter to transition to 3D. I preferred this game over the 3D trilogy on PS2/Xbox/Gamecube. Liked the fighting mechanics, atmosphere and the fact that they take the voice-over gibberish to another level. Who doesn't love Liu Kang doing a bicycle kick and yelling something that sounds like "you're the only one with a dildo in the butt"? And the voice acting... That Jax ending is a masterpiece.

It also features the MK arcade debut of this guy:

Resident Evil: Resistance (PS4/X1) - This game got a lot of flak at launch. Deserves it. But through several updates, it turned decent. I didn't play it until months after it came out and I couldn't believe some of the things they let happen early on. Anyway, it's an asymmetrical game where 4 survivors, each with different strengths, weaknesses and perks, are pitted against a mastermind. The survivors play in third-person going up against creatures and traps to get to an exit. The mastermind watches the survivors through surveillance cameras, trying to prevent the survivors from escaping. On his/her end, the gameplay is basically like a real-time strategy game. It's a shame that it launched the way it did. Doesn't help that the Resident Evil 3 remake (the main game that comes with Resistance) was painfully short and missing a lot of what the original PS1 game had. On a side note, the devs of Resistance (NeoBards) are releasing Resident Evil: REVerse, which had a terrible beta. I was there in the few hours (maybe it was days?) it was available. Stupid game. It's ring around the rosie with guns. NeoBards are not good at launching.

A lot of people hate on The Last of Us Part 2 simply because of

Spoiler

Abby killing Joel

The game is obviously more than that particular scene, and it's certainly not just about that particular character's death. I also hated the game when it came out after I found out that particular character was gonna die, even if I knew he had it coming to him since Part 1. However, the game went on sale a few days before my birthday, and I bought it for myself, giving Abby the benefit of a doubt.

She may not be as fleshed out (pun intended) as Joel was and I think we saw enough of her life without getting bombarded with the exact same events Joel experienced.

The Last of Us 2 has some boring chapters, but rightfully so. Real life is boring. Fighting a war is boring. I knew because I experienced living in a city under siege, the ground zero only a kilometer away, bullets zipping past our roof, crackling every now and then. I also grew up in a gang, recruited kids, and fought a group a hundred times larger than us. I was so tensed all the time, that the tension eventually died out and I felt bored waiting for something intense to happen. And when the intensity came up, I barely felt it.

Back on topic, that's how I saw the game's pacing issues. A lot of people say Abby's section was boring, but by that point, we were already too traumatized as Ellie, that the last traumatic events in her section barely created tension. We already felt Ellie's PTSD to the point that we barely cared anymore who we kill next. All we wanted by that point was a more intense and satisfying kill. We were put on a serial killer's (Ellie) shoes while she was on a frenzy.

Whereas Ellie killed enemies she personally marked for death, Abby was just killing enemies to survive. At Abby's point, it was basically routine killing, adding up to the boringness.

Given everything that’s transpired the last couple of weeks I think the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition would be a suitable candidate for this thread lol since it’s pretty much disliked universally by fans and critics alike.

Despite that yeah they obviously have their flaws, but they’ve been pretty much the only games been playing. I haven’t finished these games in years so I’m determined to get to the end.

Infact I’m almost done with Vice City already as I only have some assets to complete before killing Sonny and I’m looking to it. It’s been about 17

years since I last completed Vice City and playing through this new iteration makes me feel like when I first played It back in 2002. As you can probably tell Vice City is the one I’ve spent with the most. I have been playing GTA III and San Andreas, but just not as much.

Anyway all the politics/controversy aside I feel the fixes imposed already have put the games on the right path. I’ve been incredibly blessed to not have suffered anything too serious (like hard crashes, progress breaking bugs etc) so that’s what’s contributed to my enthusiasm just to tough it out. 😉

I am keen to playing old games between 2005 and 2010. At the time, those games do not require heavy resources from computer and rendered the graphics decently. The gameplay was basic and straightforward, which I do not need to worry about playing it comfortably. I was rather completely hooked up with the progress of the story from those games. Today, every release of the game requires a new height of computing resources to be utilized or else the game will not run properly. I am always on the run for computer upgrades in order to keep up with modern gaming.

A bit of a weird guilty pleasure but Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. On one hand its nothing special and often very annoying with the constant character conversations because its an anime game (for the most part its crap imo). But for some reason the whole customise an anime character and running around various levels shooting things just appeals to me. More than playing Battlefield and Call of Duty. I think its mainly because i've never played an anime shooter before this so it comes off as something unique to me. That how as well as customising your main character and bot girl who always calls you master, I like how you can mix and match between other characters from the SAO franchise.

Given the popularity of manga and anime styled games, i'm amazed that they haven't tried to pull a Genshin Impact with this because i'm sure theres a market for anime waifus running around large cities shooting stuff.

I miss playing both the godfather game and The Godfather II (video game) had them on DVDROM or disc

Those games are awesome!  Very underestimated.         Still a bummer they were never added to the backwards complatible catalogue on Xbox.    Don't want to buy a used 360 or PS3 just to play those two games.

Final Fantasy VIII

A lot of people hate this one because the game mechanics are a bit different from the other games in the series, the protagonist comes off as too "emo" and the plot twist is seemingly random (to those that didn't follow the story close enough at least). But I disagree. FF8 is my favorite one. It's not perfect but it just hits something inside of me more so than any of the other numbered titles have.

The game is a lot more grounded to reality than most of the other Final Fantasy games. There's cars, trains, boats, guns, cities, governments and military conflicts, technology like computers and internet, space travel, and most of the clothing actually kinda looks like something people would wear in the 90s.

The setting feels pretty modern for a fantasy game and while the graphics might have aged a little it still looks quite nice to me.

The Drawing and Junction system takes some time getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can utilize it however you want for whatever situation. For those that like exploiting games early on you're able to be an unstoppable force at the very beginning if you so choose to. I didn't like it at first but I eventually found it to be enjoyable as most of the other Final Fantasy games have the same old mechanics.

Squall is a great protagonist. His outfit and gunblade is cool as hell. For most of the game he puts on a brooding and cold persona to everyone around him but we get to see how he really is from reading his thoughts and inner monologues. He has a lot of trauma and abandonment issues but throughout the course of the story his character develops greatly and he learns to open up to his friends as he realizes he's not alone in the world. He's a realistic interpretation of an edgy teenager and for that I feel like he's pretty relatable to most players unlike the other protagonists in the series. The other party members all have good development as well, although they're all admittedly overshadowed by Squall and his love interest, Rinoa. Irvine in particular is my favorite, his problems are very similar to Squall's but he handles it differently and in turn is a much more charismatic and entertaining character.

The best thing about this game however is the soundtrack (The original ps1 ost as the PC version loses its charm). There isn't a single track that I dislike in this one. 'Eyes On Me' is such a beautiful song to end the game with.

I'll admit it's not the best Final Fantasy game, fans of the series will tell you they either hate it or love it. But I'm on the latter side of course.

An honorable mention to Final Fantasy XV, which isn't as bad as people say especially now that it's complete with all the added content.
