Please post more than just the title. At least explain why you like the game. It's an absolutely pointless exercise in posting just the title. It says nothing other than you like a game others don't. May as well write that down on a piece of paper and throw it in sea.

Guys, please post more than the title. At least give a reason. We don't need another thread of no discussion and just people posting titles.

hitman absolution. most hitman veterans can't stand that game. however, i really enjoyed it. and i say this as someone who is- or was, a diehard fan of the series.... until IOI made that stupid HITMAN 3 epic exclusive announcement 🙄

it has so many mechanics that serve as the basis for HITMAN 2016. smooth controls, picking up and throwing any object and using it as a weapon, throwing objects at people's heads, being able to hide yourself and bodies in closets AND boxes, challenge system, hell even things that "casual" players don't notice like bullet distractions. also the game was pretty polished, at least more polished than HITMAN 2 anyway.

and the disguise system and level design was really not that bad. yes the disguise system was harsh and some levels were linear, but that was also the case in hitman 2: silent assassin and blood money fanboys just overlook this fact.

the disguise system is really not that bad. just keep your distance from others wearing the same clothes and only use instinct when you need to pass through them. also, not all the the levels are linear. some levels are the traditional assassination sandbox levels like chinatown i and ii, streets of hope, vixen club, etc. those levels are quite good. the levels that actually are linear are still okay.

only thing about the game that sucked was the story, but honestly, not that many hitman games have good stories in them so yeah 🤷‍♀️

hitman absolution...

I really enjoyed this game too but mostly because it was only my second Hitman after being hooked with Blood Money. And, I must say, a lot of the criticism was justified because a lot of things the Hitman 1 and 2, recently are highly regarded and seen as a return to form.

Having said that there were some things that people overreacted for. Basically they made the default "Normal" with all the hand holding stuff and instinct. Personally, I'm not a fan of Instinct in games. I get but it seems almost too supernatural to me. I can justify it sometimes by thinking if I was actually in the room the character was in I'd have more sensory perception and that perception is just being presented to be in a HUD.  Back to my point, you just have to turn it on to hard mode IIRC and it was back to "normal" like the other titles.

I definitely think Absolution was in general more linear than previous titles. The occasional linear mission in older titles was fine but the level design was definitely a bit more linear in Absolution.

All those contentious and negative things aside. As a game, it still had many of the things that make a Hitman game fun and rewarding.  I think I've completed it twice now.

A game I would nominate in the same ball park in the same respects regarding fan backlash and casualisation of the game is Splinter Cell: Conviction.

I really enjoyed this game as it's great entry point for people that haven't played stealth games. It was my first Splinter Cell, and I understand the criticism and commercialisation of series can be frustrating. Games in series should add more and perhaps get a little harder a long with it's audience experience, unless it's a reboot.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but Absolution was the only Hitman interested me.

With the new games especially I’ve always found them a bit overwhelming with how you’re dumped into a map and told to kill a target any way you see fit. That might seem a bit contradictory since it’s something I feel strongly about regarding the GTA series, but I prefer it to be in moderation rather than be the core if you get me. What I loved about Absolution is it felt way tighter and more focused. You still had segments where you had freedom, but overall the more cinematic tone was appreciated.

I remember sometimes going in guns blazing like Max Payne and just wrecking every person in sight feeling like the ultimate bad arse.

Holy sh*t we finally have something in common. Absolution was really a distinctive Hitman game and for that reason I absolutely loved it more than the others. I respect the other Hitman games, but to me they look like a long episode of uninspired moments that don't really stand out(the gameplay still is awesome though). But with Absolution, I actually felt "purpose" for the things that I did in the gameplay. The supporting characters seemed like "real people" instead of just being targets for you to kill.

@Algonquin Assassin

I also bought the new hitman and found it overwhelming too, I enjoyed Blood Money but for some reason this didn't just click. However I'd argue that that overwhelming feeling is a good thing, that freedom and those sprawling maps are the essence of hitman, learning patterns and enemy routes, timing your actions and planning out your route of attack, that creative freedom. i've accepted that for me Blood Money was an outlier and the hitman gameplay in general isn't my cup of tea after playing Hitman for the PS4. I apperciate it bit it's not for me.

I enjoyed Absolution for the same reasons you did, once I accepted it's less traditional hitman and more an open ended 3rd person shooter, I had a blast, I loved that mission in that little desert area where you kill that guy, replayed it so many times with different weapons, the gunplay and physics were so underrated, saying that it was a departure from the tried and tested formula and I can see why it annoyed fans.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the open ended nature also, but I still want some direction and streamline.

Absolution gets the balance right IMO. You still have levels where you can approach it in multiple ways, but the more cinematic "Max Payne-esque" levels really help to offset. Glad there are others who like Absolution though.:^:

Crackdown 3

I understand the disappointment people felt when the game/series really hadn't evolved after 12 years or so. However, as someone who absolutely loved the first Crackdown back in the day, I didn't expect or want anything but just that. To me C3 felt like a breath of fresh air when all my other games from the mid or late 2000's were long gone. I had a real trip with that one, especially while waiting for Cyberpunk 2077.

Kane & Lynch (particularly Dog Days)

I really liked those two games and Dog Days just had an awesome atmosphere. It was short and had clumsy controllers but I had a lot of fun with it.

Like someone mentioned earlier, I enjoyed the first entry in the AC Series, Assassin's Creed (2007). I've completed the game twice now, and yes, the missions are extremely repetitive and lackluster. However, I felt that the story was great, and it really helped to pave the way for future entries in the series, such as the next installment, AC2.

I definitely do understand if people didn't enjoy this game, and I hope Ubisoft does make a remaster of this game.

I response to you and @Mister Pink

I think the sole reason it was disliked because instead of it being level based they sectioned off one so called "level" into multiple mini levels, some often having no goal other than to get to the end of it. That was my biggest problem with the game. There were cool level designs and it was the first time we had a modern game in a long time and it just pissed me off so much of how it was designed that it made it impossible to go back to. The beauty of the original games C47, 2:SA, C, BM, was that they were infinitely replayable, closed and encapsulated experiences. Absoultion tried to push massive story plots into the gameplay. And even though I very much miss the epic story plot pieces of the original games in comparison to now, the way they designed it really f*cked with the formula of replayability and enjoyment. Among many other cool removed features that I can't even remember it has been so long.

For me, my list:

- Fallout 76 (Until recently where they nerfed all the best sh*t) It was great, I got it a year after release it had so much more content in it, actually has player trading of items, which hosts this massive underground trading scene which can be done in game multiple ways. Super addictive but not a massive chore and job like other games in its class such as Destiny, etc. Its the best you can get for having a multiplayer Fallout experience. All the downsides you might think of such as not being able to hard save when you want and replay things for example, are solved by the fact no more worries about dying or having a game crash and being sent back ages of play time as it autosaves at all times. A lot of times aren't completely unique and you dont have to worry too much about missing some super rare item you can only get once. It uses the same system mods did in FO4 for crafting guns, clothing and armor. The game can be a bit boring at the start but once you get above level 50 the game opens up so much.

- Driv3r. Old I know, but I always loved this game and had fond memories of it, no idea why people hated it. It might have had less to do in it than Vice City at the time, but it had dual analog support for shooting guns (no lock on bullsh*t like GTA) the driving was still really good, I loved Miami and I enjoyed every aspect of the game, I can't remember having any issues with it.

- Kane & Lynch series, specifically the 2nd one. Not quite sure why people didn't like it. It didn't have the unique multiplayer modes that the first game did, however it did have full story online co-op unlike the first. Yes some AI were a bit laggy and glitchy, but the guns felt fun and the atmosphere was great. I know some people hated the filters and pixel effects but some of that blurring and wobble could be turned off in the options, a remake of these would be great.

- Hitman Contacts, I believe at the time people didn't like this one, not too sure why. It is a bit depressing and dingy, I think its technically almost always raining in every level. But it was a way for people to experience some of the first game levels on consoles who didnt have a PC. As well as adding in some more. It also had the best shooting out of all of the games in my opinion and was the last time we had the option to take in as many concealable guns as we wanted into levels. It had the best atmosphere, super dark and f*cked up, not usually my thing but it worked in this game.

- Metal Gear Solid 2. Yes it was a massive disappointment to get a f*cking girly haired twat as your main character, but I put some crazy hours into that game getting all the dogtags for some competition to get your own tags made, and then did it all again in the HD remaster on the xbox 360. Had some of the most crazy epic story ever and will forever be memorable to me.

- PUBG (I guess?) Maybe not at launch but any time it is mentioned now people sh*t all over it. And quite rightly, however for me it definitely is better than any other BR game out there, it goes to show how badly I love the game that I am willing to put up with completely f*cking tone deaf moron devs that drive their game into the f*cking ground out of stubbornness and still play the game a few times a week. It has the best shooting out of almost any game of its kind, its just a shame they were on top and just gave it away. It could be so much better if I could just convey my issues with the devs and have them listen, but they never listen. So I guess I am half and half on this. Its sort of hated now, but wasnt, and I loved it then, but now its hard to love even though its always been my top game to play.

- Mafia 3. I feel that a lot of people either didnt like this game or just didnt even care to try it. I enjoyed the majority of my time playing it, Loved the setting even though it probably didnt really need to be called Mafia, but still. Not enough free roam GTA clone types set in the 60s and 70s and 80s.

- The latest Medal of Honor games. The first had a great singleplayer story, played very well and modern, I played it recently and if it wasnt for the fact I couldn't adjust my FOV I would still recommend it. The multiplayer was a bit odd but it fed into how Battlefield 3 ended up being. The second game (Warfighter) was the opposite, the story wasnt as good, but the multiplayer was amazing. You got infinite ammo with your pistol, LMG's got infinite ammo also and a bottomless mag when mounted. It had a massive choice of random special forces to choose from with probably the only game that has done weapon camo/paint realistically and perfectly. The multiplayer modes were super fun and it now makes me think kind of like if Rainbow Six Siege (with no bullsh*t gimmicks) merged with Battlefield 4, but on a smaller map scale. It made me feel like the old Armerica's Army game on the PC.

- Call of Juarez and Call of Juarez Bound in Blood. Not much to say other than I liked this sh*t. A lot more than Red Dead Redemption. I wanted more first person shooty in the 1800s.

-Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Yes this is a battlefield game, that nobody ever speaks of. It was a disappointment that it didn't resemble Battlefield 2 AT ALL. But it was the very first battlefield game on consoles and the vehicles and maps were really amazing. Its downfall was its sh*tty contol scheme and kind of sh*t shooting mechanics. Fun could be had but it was a bit awkward. Also not sure if it had any sort of party system either. I liked it enough to have wanted the maps remade in newer games but nobody speaks of this game. It had a van with a minigun on it ffs.

All I can think of for now.

1. Halo: Reach

Many argue this is the entry that killed Halo but I disagree wholeheartedly and for a multitude of different reasons. Reach innovated the franchise and brought many new concepts in that vastly improved upon what Halo 3 had already made great strides in. I enjoyed the character customisation, the maps, the weapons and the campaign was truly something that in traditional Bungie fashion, was written with care and love.

2. Dragon Age 2

While I agree that this game was a vast step down from Origins, if you take it on face value it isn't at all a bad game. It's Mass Effect in the Dragon Age universe. One of the elements that I really enjoyed from this game though was the slight dialogue variations. Again, it's not as expansive as Origins, but depending on the first few lines you choose to speak as Hawke, it can change the feel and personality of the entire character. The lines that are reserved for cutscenes and are not a player choice are tied to the personality system which can differ between diplomatic/sarcastic/aggressive. It's slight details like this that make the game unique and fun to play in it's own right.

3. Final Fantasy XIII

This was the first FF game I played so it holds sentimental value for me. I don't really care if it's inferior to past FFs. It's a fun game with fun characters and leave it at that. The combat wasn't too bad either. While it can seem like the game plays itself in the first few hours, it can be exhilarating at times later on in the game.

4. Hitman: Absolution

Some have already mentioned this but it's still a game that gets a lot of bandwagoning hate. While the sheer hatred of the game has slowed down considerably in the past few years, it's clear that this game had it's faults but was still a decent effort at a Hitman game. Admittedly it's not as open-ended as Blood Money or Contracts but if you're an optimist you'll be able to see what this game does right in it's narrative and storyline.

5. Fallout 3 and Fallout 4

There's a lot of dissonance in the Bethesda Fallout community. I will say that while both these games aren't perfect they are still some of the best games I've ever played. Fallout 3 in particular was the first Fallout game I ever played and similar to FFXIII it has some sentimental value to me. I actually much prefer 3 and 4's narrative structure to New Vegas as I didn't feel at any point that I had to stray off to do menial side quests to form partnerships with factions I didn't care about. The linear story structure actually helps the game form consistency within it's arrangement of quests. Many critics of these games type platitudes into online message boards but don't realise that in many ways, Bethesda not only saved Fallout but made it possible for New Vegas to exist.

6. Mass Effect 3

Like the rest of the games on this list, it's probably not perfect but that's not to say it's a bad game. Like most I disliked the ending and the final hour of the game but the rest of the game is a consistent collection of greatest hits rivalling even the second game in scale. The combat was also improved upon heavily and it's much more fluid and free flowing unlike the rather robotic animations that ME2 had. My advice is to play through the trilogy in order to get the best experience from Mass Effect 3.

House Party.

I'm not saying people don't like it, I'm saying I've legit never spoken to another person who has played it. Or heard of it, for that matter. It's a perverted, sex mad game about a house party guest, and your entire purpose is to essentially engage different characters into sexual relations. I've been playing it on and off for a while now, as it was requested on my old YouTube page after I uploaded a video in the strippers on GTA V. I was actually pleasantly surprised with it.

There is tonnes of dialogue options, tonnes of different ways to play the quests you're given, and it's a lot of fun. It has also come a long, long way from when I first played it.

If it goes on sale, and you're looking for some perverted video game fun, I recommend this.

(SIDE NOTE: This is easily the most bizarre post I have ever written. 2020 is wild)

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days

It's basically the closest thing you can get to a video game version of Gaspar Noe's Irreversible or a Dirty Beaches album.

Gunplay and cover is garbage, the enemies ragdoll pretty badly and the shaky cam is super annoying, but man, do I love the general Liveleak-ish, gritty lo-fi neon aesthetic that this game has, as well as the sleazy and violent cinema verite feel it gave me. If IO had more time to refine the general level design, themes and gameplay and if it had a longer, more fleshed out campaign it would have easily been one of those cult video games that people go back to regularly like Spec Ops The Line.

PUBG, alpha was awesome and I enjoyed it when they released the full version. I'm burnt out on BRs but if there was one that I am super curious to pick up again its PUBG. A lot of people seem to hate it now which is a shame.

Not actually sure if there's that many people who dislike the game, I would say is just underrated ?

Anyway, this is an amazing game as it has already 8 years. We can say is a mixture between GTA + Yakuza.

Graphicwise it's okay, in my opinion a 7.5/10.

Storyline is just amazing with a great twist right in the end. 16 - 18 hours to clear main story + extras

Driving mechanic is a bit meh but you get used. I say meh for those who come from games like GTA you feel the difference.

It has 2x DLC's which is great as well.

Now, my favourite tool: the fighting mechanic. Just amazing, no words to describe.

Again, it's a game from 2012. Unfortunately didn't had a sequel, it deserved. And the last minutes of the story gave us a small hope for that.

Manhunt 2.

A lot of people sh*t on the game for not living up to the expectations of its predecessor but the story really drew me in, plus it controlled so much better. The dynamic between Danny and Leo fighting for control was the type of sci-fi horror I’ve always been a fan of. I think it’s criminally underrated.

That got refused by the BBFC so many times, I still remember someone who worked at my local gamestation saying they were going over to the states to purchase it ahead of it’s Halloween release. I for one enjoyed Manhunt 2 apart from it being censored. A step down from the first.

- "Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi." [The first one.]

I always think that this one deserves better.

Whenever I see people talking about it, they would talk about how trash it is, especially since there exists the likes of Xenoverse 2 (Which is not a fair comparison).

Sure, it takes time getting used to it's controls. But I think it's a underrated gem that was judged to harshly.

I really like Skyforge. The player count is very low these days unfortunately, but I think it's one of the best looking MMOs on console. I love the character customization and events, but I've never been able to successfully convince any friends to play it with me, probably because they know it's just going to be a massive grind like every MMO. So I play it solo and have to rely on the matchmaking, which takes aaaaages because of the low player count.

Edit: Oh and it's region locked, so my US friends wouldn't even be able to play with me anyway

I'm really liking The Last Of Us Part 2 thus far. Granted I can understand why it's so divisive and why many people don't like the story (atleast from what I've played), but besides that I think the game is stunning with rich detail and the environments are such a blast to explore.

With all it's DLCs included and bugs fixed, Mafia 3 is really great experience, but it still has kinda negative reputation compared to previous games. (Sure Mafia 2 was great on launch without any DLCs, but better later than never...)

To be honest the DLC only made Mafia III mildly interesting for the short time it lasted.

Faster Baby was pretty cool, but Sinclair Parish felt incredibly wasted after it was finished. No real reason to go back there.

A Sign Of The Times felt too out of place IMO like it was trying too hard to throw in some horror like elements and I love horror.

Stones Unturned was the worst. It just felt like some excuse to have a “Nam” nostalgia trip and I absolutely hated that it was entirely linear and it was impossible to go back to the main game until it was finished. Only took an hour or so to finish. Waste of time.

Overall the DLC was weak with drips and drabs of interesting ideas, but failed to make a lasting impression to override the game’s core issues however that’s just me.

Life is Strange - i think the atmosphere of this game is pretty nice and warm. Seriously, i'm still like the Arcadia Bay and surrounding locations. Storyline, despite of some holes, is interesting. Political agenda is exist, but not highlighted (unlike second part).

The whole time-shift system it's interesting gameplay feature, sadly that developers failed to make a proper story explanation of some holes connected with it.

Battlefield 5

Sure it's not historically accurate in the slightest but it's fun as f*ck to play and the classes are all unique in their own way. Character customization is also really fun.

This is controversial, but Fortnite.

I bashed the game a lot, however a friend told me to try it for a few matches with him and to see if my opinion changes. Needless to say it did. While it is associated with kids, I've yet to encounter one in over a year of playing the game.

Also IMO it's f*cking amazing that you can play as Iron Man driving a truck into a building made by Master Chief, whilst Kratos RPG's your ass and Joker is hiding, trying to loot the leftovers, ending with the Mandalorian killing all of you because he's playing the game since it released.

City Racing - I'v been playing this game since I was a little kid. City Racing is like GTA but you can't get out of the car. Its a car racing open world game.

I'm enjoying the game because i liked the graphics, physics and the car systems. Other people don't like it because the game is so simple. The developer of this game said that it is a child friendly game, but other people said that its rated 13+, because of violence, blood, and suggestive themes (because you can see sexy girls in the in-game billboards)
