DODI3OG
Jeeez! I'm loving it! I got into the series because my mom was a fan of Prince of Persia. And she liked Assassin's Creed 2 when I was playing and told her it related to Prince of Persia. She also liked the Assassin's Creed movie, which was just "ok" to me. Nevermind: Just read more about Basim. Since they're coming back to their roots, I hope Basim gets to play a similar role to Desmond Miles and Layla. Also, here's hoping there'd be more sequences against the modern templars. Edited September 1 by DODI3OG Mister Pink

Next Assassin’s Creed is Mirage, stars Basim, set in Baghdad - Polygon This sounds like a gem of a game so far. Focus on stealth, it not being a massive open-world game sounds really good to me. I hope they'll take some influence from Prince of Persia games. I'd love some puzzles too. I went of AC series, jumped back into Odyssey and Valhalla but they're just too big and progression/levelling up is way too slow. A smaller, more stealth-based game is very appealing, indeed. I don't think massive open worlds will work for Assassin's Creed Games. Even a map the size of Southern San Andreas is too big and tedious to navigate given the style of gameplay. Black Flag's map worked because of the Naval Combat. But, arguably, it was also tedious to navigate the individual islets. I'm hoping for a map that's just has the sweet spot for the contents in the game with a good map design that's not tedious to navigate. AC Unity is a sweet spot content-wise, but they have to improve on its shortcomings. From the looks of it, it will probably have a bit of a POP Influence. Here's hoping POP characters and "Isu weapons" make it into the game as some kind of a special skill. Mister Pink
Jason
I'm no AC expert, I wasn't massive on the pre-RPG era games (I just prefer RPG's my self) but I did play quite a bit of Black Flag and IMO a big reason why that game just worked is because it had something Ubisoft games rarely have which is a bit of character, a bit of soul. I think the setting helped but roaming the seas with your crew, the shanties, etc, it just came together in a way Ubi games rarely do. Ubisoft's [suits, not devs] fear of making a game with only female protagonist meant that we had to endure Jacob for half of the game, and he is the most boring and one-dimensional protagonist in the history of AC. If they let the devs do their thing, we could have been playing the whole game with Evie. She's a really awesome character. They also dumbed down free-running compared to Unity. Also, the story was dull and the bad guys were comically bad. The upgrade system was completely broken. The game was actually really challenging at first, but the upgrades are so over-the-top powerful, the game quickly became a boring slog that required absolutely no effort on your part. But London was amazing. Anyway, I'm actually interested in hearing more about the new AC. I didn't care about Valhalla at all. I don't have any desire whatsoever to play that game. But this might be worth following. Edited September 2 by Creed Bratton

Sadly, these devs wouldn't be working on anything if it wasn't for the publishers and a lot of time these publishers bumrush things just to please the investors. Whitelight made a pretty awesome review of it in 2020: AC Unity was should have been the benchmark in terms of gameplay. All they had to do was add up what was necessary, but instead they added more unnecessary hand-holding and arguably made the formula a lot complicated. Since AC Revelations, all I ever wanted was to have some kind of Isu Artefact to use as an end-game reward that could have been carried over to subsequent playthroughs. But, they made them into usual RPG-style weapons in the RPG games and suddenly the gameplay was just a typical RPG with Assassin's Creed lore. Dbzk1999
Least some people found enjoyment in Unity, wish I could say I could, but 8 years later and I’m feeling about the same disdain for it. That said, replayed Origins last year and I gained an even greater appreciation for it than I did when it initially came out. Currently making my way through Odyssey again, and gaining a further appreciation for that as well. Curious about Mirage too. Will be interesting controlling Basim in Baghdad, and I’m curious just how much influence Spoiler Loki will have on him. If anything, I’d expect a similar scene to Valhalla where Spoiler Eivor fights off Odin’s influence, but Basim instead fails/embraces Loki instead. Jason
This is from our favourite lad Tom Hendo Quote It's information that I've been set on for several months, but with several new sources further corroborating the information, I'm finally confident to report on it. Ubisoft will be revealing several new Assassin's Creed games this weekend at Ubisoft Forward. The first game is an extensive "deep dive" into Assassin's Creed Mirage, which was leaked late last week on social media. Assassin's Creed Mirage will take players to Baghdad to play as a young Basim. Two other games, which will be a part of Assassin's Creed Infinity are also set to be revealed. Assassin's Creed Project Red and Assassin's Creed Project Hexe. Project Red will take players to Japan. Early concept arts depict a female samurai-like assassin, but players are likely to be able to play as both male and female. Project Hexe (recently changed from Project Neo), understood to be in development at Ubisoft Montreal will take players in the darkest Assassin's Creed game ever. It's understood that Project Hexe is set during the witch hunt era in 16th century Europe. Project Hexe is understandably one of the more interesting projects and although I wasn't able to report on the title until now, I did throw a slight hint on Twitter (sorry). So we could be seeing a few AC games announced on the 10th. If that Infinity stuff is true I'm guessing Infinity is like some type of foundation for smaller (as in not Origins/Od/Val size) games and they'll have multiple teams making those projects at the same time. I'm not totally against that in general, cause the bloat in the recent AC games is mental, but... it all sounds like it could end up being quite a mess. We'll have to see, those two settings (Japan and the witch hunt 16th century Europe) sound really cool so I'ma gonna hope they're good. Jason
Schreier's backing it up: "Ubisoft has teased the idea that new titles will be announced at its Ubisoft Forward event on Saturday, saying it will reveal “a peek at the future of the franchise.” The company plans to showcase a mobile title and two major games, said the people, who asked not to be named discussing private information. The first major game, code-named Red and developed by Ubisoft’s Quebec City office, is set in Japan. The second major game, code-named Neo or Hexe and developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal office, is set during the latter stages of the Holy Roman Empire and revolves around witch trials. Both Red and Neo are part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a platform for future games in the series that will contain multiple settings, as Bloomberg reported last year. The two games will likely not release until 2024 at the earliest. A Ubisoft spokesperson declined to comment." Announcing AC games set to release in 2024 in 2022... Ubi really are desperate. Jason
Infinity doesn't seem to be a game, it seems to be... idk? Like a platform for games to be built in? Like I think their plan is you load up Infinity (which I would assume is a free DL) and you'll have an selection of AC experiences to buy and play? I dunno, honestly, it seems a needless step to me but we'll hopefully learn how it's going to work soon. Edit: PSN leaks: Quote Experience the story of Basim, a cunning street thief seeking answers and justice as he navigates the bustling streets of ninth-century Baghdad. Through a mysterious, ancient organization known as the Hidden Ones, he will become a deadly Master Assassin and change his fate in ways he never could have imagined. - Experience a modern take on the iconic features and gameplay that have defined a franchise for 15 years. - Parkour seamlessly through the city and stealthily take down targets with more visceral assassinations than ever before. - Explore an incredibly dense and vibrant city whose inhabitants react to your every move, and uncover the secrets of four unique districts as you venture through the Golden Age of Baghdad. If you already own the PS4™ version of this game, you can get the PS5™ digital version at no extra cost and you do not need to purchase this product. Owners of a PS4™ disc copy must insert it into the PS5™ every time they want to download or play the PS5™ digital version. PS4™ game disc owners who buy the PS5™ Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to get the PS5™ version at no extra cost. Ubi back to being a very leaky ship again, lol. Darth Absentis
Kinda new to the series, just finished rogue, but wow god, i did not like Unity for it's hard learning curve, paywalls and backtracking for chests already and hearing some of the stuff of the games i still need to play, like no fall damage, bad to no stealth mechanics and actually fighting mythical figures instead of historic figures that are plotting against your main characters....yes i do not like the sound of that. I am how ever pretty sure i will be at origins before this year is over, maybe even Odyssey if i skip on the chronicles games that came with the bundle i bought in november, which contained pretty much the whole series(i'd first would love to read the actual odyssey book i bought though, sincei think that might be fun) Dare i say how ever that, even though i really loved AC 4 Black Flag, Assassins creed is at it's best in a setting where the battle between templars and assassins is in full swing, happening in the background or the forefront but still with mystery, but most importantly, the place of setting is best in some old city or multitude of cities that existed for a thousand years or longer, so one can go and climb high hard to parcour buildings with secrets in them and with the combat actually rather skill dependant and not per se asset/progress dependant ? Those were a few things AC4 at its core kinda lacked. It was way to easy to get around the map once climbing, the base story was just not enough about a mysterious plot with side plots, overall it all being quite easy to follow, with most of the locations having no historic value or story behind it whatsover and the combat being not only to easy, but easier by a lot once you get at a certain level of health and strength. Even AC brotherhood had this latter problem less, but AC 1 in regards of combat difficulty depending on the player skills....honestly, it was the best at that, even though none of the AC games were perfect in that regard. AC4 how ever...yeah combo killing is kinda cool, but kinda easy too.
