lndex
Apparently it’s said to release alongside the ps5 in November I’ve been hearing.
Jason
Really liking what I'm hearing so far. I really enjoyed Odyssey's combat, it was probably my favourite part of the game, so even more gorey, even more weapon options, shields that can be used as weapons (soft spot of mine), oof. Sounds good to me. The settlement system sounds good too, having a place to go back to and build up is nice. Wonder if they've looked at RDR2's camp system as an inspiration for it, be cool if it's not just littered with one line NPC's and instead has meaningful characters there that you can interact with and chat with. Looking forward to it a lot now tbh. Also for those who play on PC, uPlay+ is £13/$15 a month, so even if you take two months to complete the game you're still getting to play it at a discount. Good deal for all of Ubisoft's games if you're someone who doesn't tend to revisit games months later.

LittleBlueTroll
Looks really good from what I saw then! I didn't watch the breakdown of the trailer, so maybe they touched on this there, but I can only assume the settlements will be raided and need protecting from enemies? If this is the case, I hope this is a well balanced element and not something that springs up every 20 minutes when you're miles away exploring. Surely in a viking setting, someone is going to raid your sh*t?
lndex
Taken from Gamerant: https://gamerant.com/assassins-creed-valhalla-settlement-feature-explained/?utm_content=buffereec3e&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_source=GR-TW&utm_campaign=GR-TW "The basic idea is that in other Assassin's Creed games players would move from area to area to discover new content, Assassin's Creed Valhalla will constantly lead players back to their settlement. This is the player's home, not just a starting point. Valhalla will make an effort to have players want to return to their settlement, not just have it be where quests are turned in". "What that means in terms of gameplay is multifaceted. Players will journey out from the world and come home changed or with some new item, person, or idea with them. The settlement will change with them, adding facilities like barracks, blacksmiths, or even a tattoo parlor. The new recruits will integrate with the settlement, sometimes triggering story elements that will grow throughout the game. The settlement responds to the player's adventures and choices, including their consequences". Edited April 30, 2020 by DEADWOODZ

I don't want to buy the PS4 version just to upgrade to the PS5 version a couple weeks/a month later. I mean I could just hold off and wait but I don't like waiting 😭 I wonder how they'll handle the crossgen releases. It seems that, at least on Xbox, some games will be able to release on current gen and deliver a free patch to upgrade the game to next gen. Ubisoft seems extra eager to be people pleasers these days so they could go that route with it. I'm not sure they're that eager though. . 14 minutes ago, DEADWOODZ said: "The basic idea is that in other Assassin's Creed games players would move from area to area to discover new content, Assassin's Creed Valhalla will constantly lead players back to their settlement. ACV is already confirmed to support the Xbox "Smart Delivery" tech. Honestly I find the whole "Smart Delivery" thing a bit of a cheap PR move and nothing more tbh. Full BC makes it basically a must otherwise you're going to have a very awkward time explaining to your customers why the game they bought on Xbox One won't suddenly work on Series X and vice versa - and at that point, an upgrade patch being free is a no brainer, just like One X/PS4 Pro patches were free. I'll be surprised if the PS5 doesn't have the same stuff and I'll be surprised if there's any major cross-gen releases that don't support it. ballstorture
Shadowfennekin
I'm hyped! I can't wait! It's great the hidden blade is back and so are the Assassins/Hidden Ones! I hope the outfits are like Origins and ONE item again, and that Alexios makes an appearance since he was alive the whole time. You can't just pull a reveal like that and never use the character again! Also, Thor Boss fight please!

Zello
People are already complaining about the hidden blade's position on Eivor's arm how it's supposed to be under his wrist. I think they're gonna come up with a creative way to explain why he uses it that way. DexMacLeod
Jason
Fifteen studios working on the game in some capacity is absolutely bonkers really. Makes me slightly cautious about future open world RPG's if this is going to be what's required to make games like this going forward. It's no surprise something like RDR2 (and inevitably GTA VI) takes twice as long. lndex

It's no surprise something like RDR2 (and inevitably GTA VI) takes twice as long. Ubisoft has been doing this for many years now, haven't they? I'm pretty certain that the reason Ubisoft has so many studios working on a single game is that they stamp out many of their games in a matter of a year or two. I also suspect that Ubisoft has tried to claim longer development times by including significant pre-production periods whose man hours during that period constitute perhaps 1% of the total. I could be wrong, of course. As Ubisoft is not exactly all about the Pursuit of Videogame Excellence™ but rather taking advantage of trends, they like to strike while the iron's hot. A game takes a certain number of man hours to make, and while there's of course a limit to the temporal compression achievable, as long as you're not innovating and are sticking mostly to your company's tried-and-true videogame template--and also are not particular about delivering something that most people would consider "finished"--parallelization of development tasks is probably fairly high. Something like BioShock or Half-Life 2 could not be developed under that highly compressed paradigm. TheSantader25
Jason
Yea they've been utilising mega teams for years, but Odyssey (or maybe it was Origins?) had only 7 studios on it, so 15 is a pretty massive jump. Obviously we don't know team sizes but given the size of these games you have to imagine that the amount of people who have worked on ACV is in the thousands. I'm so-so on it to be honest. By all accounts Ubisoft is actually a really nice place to work at, so if these giant team sizes are how they avoid insane crunch and pump these games out every 2-3 years rather than every 5-6, so be it I guess. They have been very guilty of copy and paste mechanics in the past but after Ghost Recon Wildlands tanked they seem to be going back to the drawing board and giving their teams more individuality and creativity, at least according to reports, so we'll see how that goes. I honestly had no idea that a development studio could be anywhere near that large. That just makes me more confident that if a developer has 3,500--or 5,000 or whatever the total number is--people working on a game, it's because they're trying to compress dev time as much as possible. Like 12 - 18 months. Five hundred people working on a game for 5 years is 2,500 man-years. Five thousand for even 3 years would be 15,000 man-years. I have a hard time understanding that. DexMacLeod
I don't envy whoever it is that has to keep track of what studio's working on what and when. I imagine all of their big open world games get help from multiple studios. Watch Dogs: Legion for example has Toronto in the lead with 4 other studios chipping in. Mhm, imagine that with the coronavirus too, keeping that multiple studios all on the same page without access to the workplace. Gotta be crazy right now. I hear that the various studios all have their own sections of the game to work on, apparently one of the recent Ubisoft games (might've been AC, or a WD) had an entire studio dedicated to the water or something lol. Mokrie Dela
I gotta be honest the trailer looks good even for my cynicism But it's all pre rendered PR Wait until release and I'll watch some gameplay footage, of actual in game and post downgrade. I still ain't holding my breath mind. Didnt enjoy origins/oddysey style. Tried playing it again and just couldn't. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Basically game design, if you compare especially the last 2 AC's with the last few FC's you'll notice quite a lot of similarities, not to say Ubisoft doesn't do that with a lot of their games, but with these I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming share of features. A lot of features from Far Cry 3, 4 and 5 carried over to those AC games. To put it bluntly I felt like I was playing a weird AC - FC hybrid which is something I do not want. LittleBlueTroll
I finally completed Assassins Creed 2 as part of the Ezio collection last night. I bought the game on release, played half of AC2 and haven't touched it since. With all this free time it was the perfect chance to finish it. I went for 100% achievements on Xbox too, so I collected all the feathers, last achievement left is finishing off the subject 16 videos, which I will do today, and then that will mark the second time I've 100% this game. (Got the platinum trophy in 2009 when I was on PS3) I love this game, easily my favourite Assassins Creed. However, certain movements and camera angles have not aged well. In comparison to the newer games you really notice it. Certain mandatory paths when exploring the assassin tombs were making me pull my hair out. shadyslady

LittleBlueTroll
I get the feeling Brotherhood will take me significantly longer. I am going for 100% sync on each sequence, add the collectables to that and its a recipe for a long time. I only ever completed Brotherhood once before, when it released. I actually forgot how much I enjoy it. It is essentially AC2 with some improvements, but that is fine with me. Also, Roma is a much nicer map than Venice. There, I said it. LittleBlueTroll
Double post, but I finally finished Brotherhood 100%. All sequences, all flags, all feathers, all war machines, all guild challenges, and all Xbox One Achievements. Really wasn't as frustrating as I anticipated. There are definitely some moments of grieve, like the Da Vinci tank mission or finishing some of the Lairs in 8 minutes, and the collectables are never fun, but it really wasn't bad and I really enjoyed playing this again. Was going to jump into Revelations, but after 100%ing AC2 and Brotherhood these last 2 weeks, I need a change of pace for a bit, so I will jump into Mafia 2 and complete Revelations later. Game progress is total game progress, including Revelations which I haven't started yet. acmilano
