I wonder how many people did this, and how much money was made off of it. I was on last night during the initial feeding frenzy (10-12ish Eastern time) and the lobbies I was in, no one seemed to be switching - as in, I wasn't seeing a lot of "PlayerX left" messages, just people doing normal GTA stuff like running crates and killing each other. I know people are in constant fear of the money wipe, but I think the vast majority of the player base either wasn't aware of this or slept right through it.

I noticed this as well. Almost everyone I know from GTAF on PS4 was aware of the glitch and actively spent the night taking advantage. But in any given public lobby or job I entered, people at large just carried on as usual. There was no indication that the masses were even aware of this. I heard some randoms talk about it in a heist I joined on call, but outside of that once instance, that was it.

I think its the disconnect between those who play GTA Online and actively peruse web forums and related threads (whether it be GTAForums, SevenSins, Reddit, GTA YouTubers, the list goes on) and those who simply just pop in the game and play, blissfully unaware of these things.

I wonder how much of the playerbase fall into either camp.

The average gta player wont know this stuff, we (gtaf,r/gtaglitches,7sins) get it from or with the source, the masses get with youtube(that get it from us) or from a friend normally after it blows.... this one was about to blow if R* didnt patch it, no doubt there are tons of youtubers making videos on this today. Yeah, it's crazy! Every time time my money almost depletes, a really good money making method comes out.

 

So far, I have ten X80 Bonds and about $30mil. Not stopping until I get an error, or I need liquor

Somebody that has more knowledge about the game architecture than me answer me this. If they indeed did hotfix this via background scripts, why doesn't everbody gets this fix when they switch sessions? Seems illogical to me to download tunables with each switch but not background scripts.

 

There's no hard and fast rule for what you download and cache, and what you download all the time, and that's irrelevant of whether it's this game or not. It's just a common consideration with anything that utilises servers.

 

But don't you want your clients to have the most recent information they can have? It just seems like a weird design choice to only download tunables during a session switch and not the latest background scripts.

 

 

Like I said, there's no hard and fast rule. The script that needs to be downloaded to stop this glitch may also include 15 million other things. An alternative answer is that Rockstar are pretty sh*t at the whole online thing, but surely no-one would ever really think that

Some people are more attached to their accounts than others, so thought it fair to give warning. I agree the chances of consequence are remote and you'd have to be a mean f*cker to argue switching accounts during their f*ck-up constituted a breach of tos.
