GTAForums Barclays Premier League Prediction Tournament 2016/2017

Welcome to another year of predictions and this year the scoring is slightly different, but will make it a little more interesting.

=====

Rules

=====

- You must predict before the matches before they kick-off.

- Predictions should contain the score of the match.

- Any ties at the end of the season will be determined on a play off, which would be a suitable cup final.

=======

Scoring

=======

Scoring is a little different from previous years

- You will get 5 points for an exact score

- You will get 3 points for a correct result with the correct goal difference (this includes draws)

- You will get 1 point for the correct result

- You will get 0 points for an incorrect guess

Gambles - *New*

- You will get Gambles this year, which will be a total of 38 Gambles.

- Gambles work by hedging your guess on a particular result, if you get the exact result your score for that result will double (10 maximum points)

- You can use your allotment of 38 at any time during the season; either at the beginning, middle or end, all at once in one game week or spread it across the game weeks and use one per round, the choice is yours. But once they've been used up, they're gone.

- If you use a Gamble, it will be notified in the results how many you have left, just like challenges in Tennis.

- Examples

- Prediction: City 2-1 United, score is City 3-0 United, you get 2 points (correct result)

- Prediction: City 2-1 United, score is City 1-0 United, you get 6 points (same goal difference)

- Prediction: City 2-1 United, score is City 2-1 United, you get 10 points (exact prediction)

- Prediction: City 1-1 United, score is City 2-2 United, you get 6 points (same goal difference)

- Prediction: City 2-2 United, score is City 2-2 United, you get 10 points (exact prediction)

=============

I like that we're finally accounting for goal difference, and the gambles are a nice addition too. RIP whoever is going to tally the scores week by week :p how do we keep track of gambles, perhaps add a field in the weekly results for "gambles used" so that it's clear for each player?

Could you clarify this part for me: Gambles - *New*
- Gambles work by hedging your guess on a particular result, if you get the exact result your score for that result will double (20 maximum points)

If I gamble on a result and get it exactly right, that yields me 10 points. Where does the 20 maximum come into play? And according to the rules, I can play 10 gambles within the first gameweek?

I really like the inclusion of points for correct goal differences.

As much as it seems interesting, I didnt understand the gamble rule well. Moreover, won't introducing gambles become too much and difficult to keep track off? Its gonna complicate the league a bit.

It's because is says 10 maximum points... :ph34r:

I've update the opening post to add a little more detail on the "Gambles"

As for updating them, it's actually a lot simpler this time round as the spread sheet I'm using is all calculated out, and will keep a full record of predictions and scores, so all I need to do is punch in the predictions people make, and mark the prediction if you've used a Gamble. Then after the final whistle I just need to punch in the results and badda bing the spreadsheet will do the rest. Then it's just copy/paste the table as an image and stick it in here... oo er missus.

The pre-season predictions however will need to be done manually; however, I may do a separate spreadsheet for those to avoid the cock up from last season.

I'm guessing gambles are intended to be used on results we think are most likely to eventuate? So if I put a gamble on United beating Leicester, for example, 3-2, and they win 3-2, I get 10 points. If they win 1-0, I get 6 (double 3 points), if they win 17000-0 I get 2 (double 1 point), is this correct?

If I guess a draw correctly (for example 2-2), but the exact score is wrong (real game score was 1-1), is that 3 or 1 point? I mean, technically, it's a correct result with correct goal difference. But I don't know if that counts for draws.
