IV - "The DLC required for this autoload isn't available"

Question

Lunar_Twisted

Whenever I am done playing GTA IV and switch to EFLC, I don't have any problems when loading the save game. However, when I switch back to GTA IV again, it said "The downloadable content required for this autoload is not available" and this has been bothered me for a longtime and it's pretty annoying to start a new game, skip the cutscene and have to press start and load your saved game. Just recently, I tried different ways to figure out how to fix the issue and one of them did work. I know I am not the only one with this issue when switching from EFLC to GTA IV and get this error message "The downloadable content required for this autoload is not available". I own both games on PS3. Here is what you need to do if you want the error "The downloadable content required for this autoload is not available" to never show up again when loading up GTA IV after playing GTA EFLC: If you have a flash drive, then save your progress and copy it into the flash drive.

PS3

  1. Delete both GTA IV & EFLC from "Game Data Utility"
  2. In the "Saved Data Utility(PS3)", delete your game save data(GTA IV & EFLC) if you already copied them onto your flash drive.
  3. In the "Saved Data Utility(PS3)", copy your GTA IV save data that is from your flash drive and transfer it back into the PS3.
  4. Insert GTA IV into the PS3.
  5. DO NOT UPDATE THE GAME TO VERSION 1.08 once you put GTA IV in the PS3.
  6. Cancel the update and let the game install into the hard drive.
  7. Once done, your save data will load up where you last left off.
  8. If your "Autosave" is [ON], you have to switch it to [OFF].
  9. Now go to bed and save your game. Once you do that, quit the game.
  10. In the "Save Data Utility(PS3)", copy your TLAD save data from your flash driver and transfer it back into the PS3.
  11. Insert GTA EFLC into the PS3.
  12. DO NOT UPDATE THE GAME TO VERSION 1.02 once you put GTA EFLC in the PS3.
  13. Cancel the update, let the game load and select "The Lost & Damned". Let the game install into the hard drive.
  14. Once done, your save data will load up where you last left off.
  15. If your "Autosave" is [ON], then switch it to [OFF].
  16. Now go to bed and save your game. Once you do that, quit the game.
  17. In the "Save Data Utility(PS3)", copy your TBOGT save data from your flash drive and transfer it back into the PS3.
  18. Insert GTA EFLC again into the PS3.
  19. DO NOT UPDATE THE GAME TO VERSION 1.02 once you put GTA EFLC in the PS3.
  20. Cancel the update, let the game load and select "The Ballad of Gay Tony".
  21. Once you do that, your game will load up where you last left off.
  22. If your "Autosave" is [ON], then switch it to [OFF].
  23. Now go to bed and save your game. Once you do that, quit the game.
  24. Now insert GTA IV & update the game to version 1.08. Once you do that, let the game load and when it's done loading up, quit the game.
  25. Now insert GTA EFLC & update the game to version 1.02. Once you do that, select whatever game you like to play and let it load. When the game finish loading up, quit the game.
  26. Insert GTA IV and you should not see the error message "The downloadable content required for this autoload is not available"

Now that you did it, when you switch to GTA IV, you should not see "The downloadable content required for this autoload is not available" appear when you load up the game. You can now freely switch between the two games without the annoying error message appearing. If you have the "Complete Edition", then follow the steps and it should work, even though the game is on one disc. This should also work for Xbox 360 users with similar setup with the game data/save data. As for PC users, I don't know where the game data/save data would be located at but I'm pretty sure you guys know.

Interesting. Thanks. May try it someday. I've always wondered why it's not working normally, since some people reported it does and for others it wouldn't work. Another proof of R*'s dedication to quality assurance I guess.

BTW most likely this won't work for the Complete edition because that one has all the patches already applied, at least the disc version. It only downloads a tiny update (a few kBs I think) specific to the CE when you let it.

Sorry to bump an old thread but was it ever confirmed that this works with the Complete Edition?
