GTA V - Intel Graphics

Hello, I'm new here in the forum and would like to share with you my my experience with the game running on Intel HD4400 (I know it's bad, but it is what you have. Kkk)

Well, first my settings

Core i5 4210U

Intel HD4400

8gb ram (2x4GB)

HD 1Tb

Windows 10

When you start the game it standard wheel (for the settings) with 30 fps on average. After a few minutes playing GTA V enters a kind of endless loop, ie drops to 9 ~ 10 fps for a few seconds and returns to normal, thereby repeatedly.

Considerations: I saw in many gringos forums and even Br's that was characterized as "Memory Leak", so I made all kinds of tutorials to solve this problem, but nothing worked

After this, I installed a hardware monitor use of the computer to attempt the operation of components during operation of the game and noticed some interesting features that until then I had not read anywhere.

The big problem (I believe) is that Windows is managing the clock of Intel Graphics.

With TurboBoost, my Intel HD4400 increases the clock up to 1000MHz (specifications is 1100MHz, but I never got to use it as well), which is when the game is playable, but the monitor I could see that when this infinite loop starts happen, Intel's clock value HD4400 is in 200MHz (for few seconds) and then back to normal. Setting the looping between the locking and proper functioning.

So I think the problem (at least for those who play with the Intel Graphics) is it.

Is there any way to set the clock of Intel Graphics so that it does not "fall" and Nevertheless, Keep the game always in high clock?

NOTE: I noticed that this also happens in other games.

Sorry my bad English.

You are likely to get issues with integrated graphics its not so much a issue with clock speed but the amount memory Vram that you have available, It will run with the newer integrated gpu's on the intel i 3,5 and 7 processors but really you need a dedicated GPU with at least 1gb of VRAM if you want to play at low settings.

2 gb if you want to start playing with better resolution and some high settings and 4gb if you want to max settings and resolution. unfortunately the integrated graphics share your RAM instead of having its own memory not only reducing your usable ram but it is slower transfer as well.

What you're experiencing is most likely thermal throttling, if your CPU kept the iGPU at max it would probably overheat very quickly and cause the system to shutdown. This is an issue im 99% sure you cannot fix in any way.

What are your CPU temperatures like?

Temperatures from what I noticed already crossed the line, which would begin to limit the clock. During the game processing temperatures did not exceed 140º F (60º C)

I do not think it's a memory problem ram, test-based, managed to run GTA V on an i5 3rd generation, nvidia 620m, 6GB ram at 25 fps with graphics to a minimum and commandline, this comparison still think absurd , because I know what an Intel Graphics is able to do, despite being very weak.

Not really sure how this other test disproves my theory as the 2nd rig you mention has a dedicated gpu so the fact it worked on that rig says nothing about the Intel graphics capabilities as it was running using the nvidia dedicated chip anyway, If anything it proves that it works with dedicated graphics that has a lower clock speed but its own memory!.

And your hardware does not exceed 60 degrees C but your chip has a max temp of 100 degrees C? so I personally think it is more likely a reason than it overheating or clock speed.

Think of it this way you have 2 people trying to use a cash point for example but there is only one cash point so they will have to queue and get there money, but if there are 2 cash points they can get there cash at the same time a lot quicker. Ram and Vram see the comparison?

Plus your i5 is a dual core so really you are pushing all the hardware past its capabilities to play the game I think it is a mix of things which leads to the poor performance it basically does not meet minimum spec and trying to override control of your clock speeds is more likely to make your laptop burst into flames than get the game running smoothly.

The best advice I can give to you is to make sure nothing else is running in the background also using the same resources.

But whatever it does not really bother me either way so good luck trying to get it working.

Interesting. I have tried and succeeded to play V using my Dell's i7 5500U's HD 5500, that's somewhere in the ballpark of the 4600. While the graphics leave a lot to be desired, it does work.

I unfortunately don't remember what I did, it was a mix of a few settings.xml files for low end configs I think + something else, but despite some weird mesh pop ins occasionally (the kind that existed in IV as well, you're driving on the road and suddenly the LOD I suppose doesn't disappear until a few seconds or at a particular angle) I was getting anywhere between 40-60 frames, VSync off. And it worked in Online.

Again, without any tweaks of the sort it was at an "ehhh" 15-25 frames. And like someone mentioned, thermal throttling can play a big factor into your performance.

But, but but but, the memory leak issue existed, the message popped up maybe between 35 minutes to 1-2 hours after startup. Wasn't always there if I remember correctly, but it did show up frequently enough. The laptop (full specs in my profile) has 8 gigs of DDR3 if you need to know. The same issue with windows warning me of a memory leak occurred on a friend's system with a GTX840M, also with 8 gigs of DDR3.

Anyway, tl;dr, playing on a modern Intel on board GPU is very much possible, takes some effort to get it running smoothly, and there's some issues you will probably break your head thinking and trying to solve.

Aye, this is simply a case of bad hardware. Given that your Haswell i3 is a U model, I'm assuming you're playing on a laptop. To be honest, Intel HD Graphics just won't cut it for demanding triple A titles such as GTA V. Furthermore, laptop processors are designed for low power consumption and thus have some instruction sets cut out of the die, meaning that along with weak graphics, you also have a weak processor that can barely run the myriad of AIs in GTA V. If I were you I would spend $400 on a cheap gaming PC and it'll be a much better experience for you at 1080p. For now, I can only suggest the following to make your game faster:

1) Turn down all the settings except for the resolution in GTA V graphics settings to low.

2) In Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options > Power plan > High performance in order squeeze out maybe another 50 Mhz of perf out of that CPU.

3) On the desktop, right click, go to Graphics Properties > Power and turn the Intel integrated graphics settings up to the max. You'll get around 5 to 6 frames more.

Good luck! If all of this still results in low performance, turn down your GTA V game resolution to 720p (1280 x 720).
