Making money in GTA Online is easy!

It simply requires you to play the game.

Ugh.. IN pac man you had to eat the pellets to advance to the next level. So no it never always like this in gaming.

Grinding makes sense in ARPGs and MMO where you GRIND in order to gain levels to better your skill trees or find new weapons. That makes sense.

GTAO is not a MMO tho.. Its an open world action game with things to buy. ANd things to buy only exist to push cash cards.

Well how else would they make money off of you if you already bought the game?

I guess paid DLC is one way, when you think about it. Either way, it's either buying virtual currency or locking most of the game behind a real-money-paywall, so IMO, lesser of two evils.

Via microtransactions that are actually microtransactions and offer good value for your money? They don't have to rip us off this f*cking blatantly, it's disrespectful and shows how much they literally don't care about the community or anything besides money.

>is his own fault bc he works and has a family

Having a family and working is a "fault"?

Most Forum members would recommend that OP get his priorities straight - as in: Fake his death, abandon his family, go live in a trailer in the mountains with nothing but a bigscreen TV and a console, and play GTA Online all day. That's how they do it. Life and family are unnecessary distractions.

its not necessary to fake his death and stuff like that, it all comes down to managing his time to get some quality playing time.

Says the guy who has put 2500 hours into a game in not even 3 years. Just for comparison: an average working year would be around 1700 hours.

2500 hours of gaming sounds like a lot but it translate to just over 2hours per day, which is something almost everyone can do.

i have a wife, 3 kids, fulltime job, if i can do it, anyone can do it.

depends how much time your actually spending with your wife and kids...

The problem is not them making money... Its them making as much money as they can with the least amount effort as possible.

This game is still a wonky/buggy/ unbalanced mess.. We have NOT got any actual HUGE single player DLCS or any massive expansion to the map. And every update the prices of things have been getting higher an higher

R* is making a fortune of small mods... And our reward for their gains is them driving up the prices through the roof for small mods to make even more of a profit.

tbh, this wouldn't be a problem if they would stop forcing f*cking coop in ways to make money, Why the f*ck am I force to recruit other players to get my crates? Why can't I pick all the damn crates up in one run? Heist being forced to be done with 3 other players and same with Lamar missions..Do they not see how they hinder their own game and make it worse for the rest of us? For f*ck sake, stop with this sh*t already.

Like what?

EDIT: Consider that a reply to all replies to my quote. I personally think that any form of microtransaction is garbage, so this isn't exactly surprising since it's not like I've seen a game with "good" microtransactions.

The same can be said for PvP as well, the modes are so half assed and poorly thought out for multiplayer, any form of player interaction feels forced and unnecessary.

but why would they go back and patch these modes to make them better? why would they fix the matchmaking? why would they rebalance guns so that every single gun is viable? why make the game GENUINELY fun and enjoyable when you can just release 10 BRAND NEW SPANKIN CARS, EACH $5M AND COST TWICE AS MUCH TO UPGRADE AT FATASS BENNY'S

Even back in the days of Pac Man you had to score points to advance to the next level. Has always been this way in gaming.

I don't think anyone is complaining about having to level up and earn their way (at least I'm not). It's when there are obvious game mechanics that are meant to slow your earning potential that effect how fun the gameplay is. I don't mind not making a ton of money but when it's because of a cooldown timer rather than challenging gameplay, I get frustrated.

I have no objection to R* making money. They had been my favorite developer for a long time, it just seems like their focus has shifted from "make a fun game" to "make a game that we can use to milk our player base of as much money as possible."

Just my opinion.

One of the main reasons they have sharks cards also relates to the ridiculous ingame gta O prices like for example the new car is like 3 mil or something it's just ridiculous :sarcasm: , but yeah to be honest the whole Shark Card thing ruined it .

Ha, yeah I agree. But hey, when you make easy money out of a buncha dudes willing to buy shark cards, it tends to corrupt your mindset. Money isn't everything, but it sure is nice, you know.

Id like to thank R* actually.

I was looking forward to this new update.. till the prices showed up.

At that point i saw the prices.. Saw the summer sale and went and purchased two great games for under $50 instead.

Got Fallout 4 for cheap.. Noticed Fallout 4 on xbox has mods.. Having a f*ckin blast playing it. GG R*. :p

Only good thing about Cunning Stunts update.. The ability to flip bike helmet visors up and down..

I don't know. Fallout 4 was eh. I like being the hero, so being forced to kill every other faction you didn't choose despite some people there being your friends and companions kinda sucked for me.

I said this was coming, long ago. Shark cards will keep killing gtao. How long will everyone play? Till cars are 8-10 million each? Till it literally cost GTA$ to log in? Or session swap? How long before the rest realize that the cards have opened Pandora's box. Has anyone even done a calculation to see what it would cost to buy everything/participate with everything released to date?

Have any of you actually looked at the prices of Shark Cards? Like really looked at how much real life money they cost? They're expensive for how much you get. And I'm willing to bet, most of us don't have $100 to plop down for a yacht.

Now let's look at it this way. How long does it take to earn 8 million in game?

Well if you only play by yourself and were to grind missions solo it would take 75 hours to acquire the second most expensive thing in the game (8M/(9Kx12 missions an hour).

Let's say you have 3 competent friends that can bust out PAC in 1 hour. That would take 20 hours to acquire the most expensive yacht (8M/400K).

I've illustrated the times for both ends of the spectrum for somebody who actually plays the game instead of treating Free Mode like CoD. Anywhere between 20-75 hours all depending on how you play. Now lets take a honest look at how much each of us actually plays this game. I'm pretty sure most of us on this forum play this game easily that range of hours each month. Personally, if I didn't play different games, I could easily have it with in a month. And despite that fact, I'm already close to owning it, even after spending all my money on CEO stuff.

But let's talk about JoeBlowAverage. Works a 9 to 5, has a wife a kids, you know, adult stuff. He get's what, maybe 2 hours a night if he's lucky to play GTA? Let's say with the weekends he gets in 10 hours a week to play. And he doesn't have friends he plays online with. So how long would it take him to be able to buy the 8M dollar yacht? Well let's see (75 hours/10 hours a week)7 days a week/30.5 average days in a month. So it would take JoeBlowAverage 1.7 months to be able to purchase the second most expensive thing in the game.

Now my final question, how many of you who are in this thread, and visit this forum, would constitute as JoeBlowAverage? If I had to bet, and I'm not a betting man, my money would be on very few of you fitting that description.

I used to gripe about the shark cards too actually until I played other games where if I wanted new content, I would be forced to pay IRL money for it. Like 3 bucks for a single car on forza for example.

At least with this system you have the option of just playing the game to acquire the new content, or pay money if you want it quicker.

But at the end of the day, your real life bank balance is not affected at all if you want the new content (unless you make that choice), which is pretty cool!

I spent 200HKD so I can buy Uncharted points so I can buy the P90, which is the best close-range weapon in Uncharted 4, and not having it puts you at a disadvantage.

So this? This is bad, but it's not as bad. Still bad. Like, 50% bad.

Oh, and "yeah but [other, completely different game] is worse" is a sh*tty f*cking argument.

It is, but that doesn't make it less relevant.

With GTA you can grind missions to get money to buy what you want.

When I last played Division, you grinded missions to get gear to increase your level but gear drops were random and there was guarantee it would even be as good as what you have already, let alone better. Or you tried Incursions for better gear if you could stomach the nigh-endless swarms of shotgun rushers with insane health until you wanted to kill yourself out of sheer frustration.

See also; Destiny, or any other pseudo-MMO game.

Okay, but that's the Division. I don't believe that just because other games are more grindy, that makes GTA not grindy, or makes GTA's grindiness suddenly okay.

It's one thing to use other games for comparison, but to defend a game by using a completely different and entirely unrelated game made by different people as an example, just shows that you really don't have an argument to make.

you don't NEED to grind for anything in gta o, if you want a car or something then you can save up but you don't need that car, you can get all weapons thru normal gameplay which is all you need to do missions and the like.

I've been playing GTA since the first game came out around 1997-98. It became my favorite video game series of all time. I completed every game 100% even going as far as getting level 10 in GTA 4 multilayer. (which takes forf*ckingever) Now fast forward to 2013. GTA 5 comes out, and soon after, Online. Now in the beginning the prices for everything were reasonable. Hell in the first update, everything was free. But now every update costs an arm and a leg. Almost 20k for an average item of clothing and almost 100k for a full outfit. Cars are ridiculously expensive to fully modify, and making money in game takes forever. The culprit for this? Shark Cards. The microtransactions where rockstar gets most of their profit now. When you're playing legit without shark cards or money glitches, it's pretty much impossible to stay above a million dollars. I've lost a whole damn lot of respect for rockstar over their greed with the shark cards. I hope one day they can go back to the old ways.

Forgot to mention that I also believe shark cards to be the reason we didn't get the single player dlc we were promised. Remember 2014 when they announced it? Yeah still not here, due to the success of GTA online.

How do you propose they maintain the servers the game runs and stores data for EVERYBODY on?

How do you propose they pay for the facility/space that those servers occupy in a data center?

How do you propose they pay the salaries of the guys/gals who maintain those servers?

How do you propose they pay for the salaries of the development teams who do all this programming and then add it into the game as FREE content?

I guess you think they all work for free??

I guess you think the rest of the world exists to serve you and your desires on your terms??

I guess you think none of those people have obligations, lives, bills, families, loved ones, things they want to buy, places they want to go, stuff they want to do...and none of it costs any money, right?

You don't have to spend a single solitary CENT for anything beyond the disc in GTA5/Online......what you DO pay for is for your inability to get over your need for instant-gratification.

They are adding in-game items, NOT CONTENT, far faster than anyone can earn GTA$ in game to buy all of it, and you do NOT have to buy anything just to enjoy the new content and participate, several cars are free, and existing cars can be used. To participate in premium races you need ONE modified car, big deal, spend a day or two whipping up GTA$ in a PRODUCTIVE manner and you will have a competitive car or two. If you have been in this game for more than 2 weeks and do not have a competitive car in any class, then that is ON YOU, because it seriously is not hard at all to get at least one in one or two classes that you can use and have a chance to win...assuming you can race to begin with.

The content management over the past year to year and a half has been absolutely excellent by R*.....this game has done a COMPLETE 180* since the PS3 days prior to PS4 launch.

There is plenty to do, plenty of stuff and goals you can set and a LONG list of things you can work towards....or if you have real $$ and either are too impatient or simply cant be bothered and the cash is not important to you, then you can buy a Shark Card. I havent done so myself personally, but to be honest the amount of time it takes to accrue 8million GTA$ is worth FAR more than $100 to me, so it is actually pretty good deal for me. Your time may be worthless therefore $100 is a steep price to pay for 8mil GTA$.....I personally wouldn't buy a shark card, because it really is not for content, it is for "stuff", that I can get some of on my own, and enjoy the game just the same without having to hoard all of it.

The bottom line is, if you cannot get over your need for instant gratification and must get everything by the end of the first week, then what the hell are you going to do after that?

How boring is that if everything just gets handed to you right off the bat? Nothing to achieve, unlock, work towards? Almost no one in this game even plays competitive modes like captures, deathmatches, races, LTS, parachuting, adversary modes, etc etc at all, so what the hell are you all doing?? Just trying to stroke your epeens by having more of the latest digital "stuff" than the next kid? How loser is that?? R* deserves to take your real $ because otherwise you kids will be on their backs for more and more stuff faster than they can develop it, working them like dogs, and they get nothing for the effort if you had your way.

The shark card system is fine, content management has been great on PS4, keep pumping out the cool new stuff R*. I just wish the game had been held off until it was ready for PS4 launch. The player population was SO much better and more fun on PS3 but they left because the game was so terribly managed back then, presumably because so much of the development team was working on PS4 and PC versions along with the content that was to come on next gen platforms and PC.
