When GTA O started in 2013 the most expensive car was Zentorno ($700k).

wat?

the zentorno wasn't in the game when it started, the adder was the most expensive for 1m.

Aw, ok. My bad.

Yeah, op. I'm a pvp junkie and i still find it easy to grind out a super car's worth of gta$. If a new vehicle comes out and catches me broke, i guarantee I'll own it by the end of the day. Maybe they should pay guys like you for snapmatics. Like some photojournalism heists for freeroam, like we see in V. Good idea.

Shark Cards saved GTA Online. Without Shark Card sales R* would not be supporting this game with these kinds of updates.

I play a number of games where each DLC costs $15+, or there's a season pass that costs more than the disc. There are some computer games that have cost me hundreds of dollars in real life money for DLC content. This is the direction most games are going. But it sure beats the day where you'd buy a cartridge and there were no updates.

I have never bought a Shark Card, and I never will. But I have 100 cars (spread across two characters), 10 properties, a yacht, office, warehouses, and a sizable bank account just from grinding Pac Standard.

In the past hour we just ran Pac Standard back-to-back-to-back-to back. The two hosts made $1.5m and the two ridealongs made $1m. It took a little over an hour.

No one should ever say money is hard to make in this game. If you're not in a crew that grinds Pac Standards or you have no friends that play, then that is not R*'s fault.

Just be glad the DLC wasn't $19.99 and the cars 100,000 GTA$.

the push for the cashcard felt real early in the game after they nerfed the payouts but now, they are not an issue anymore...

things have become more expensive but making money have become way easier.

if you play the game, theres no need to buy a cashcard.

i mean i made a million in the last few days while having fun in the stunt races, if that not easy money then i dont know what it is!

They would have had way more shark card customers if they had kept the price ranges low. At the smaller price range more players would have felt like throwing away a couple of pounds/dollars here and there wouldn't have been a big deal and cards would most likely not have the same stigma they do now.

Where as they made them over a price range that was close to exponential and once they started making stupid in game prices for everything they lost customers left and right.

I can honestly say that if I needed to spend maybe two or three pounds to buy a new car and maybe office I would buy a card. But instead a new car, souped up and fully upgraded office? you would need two of the whale cards. The amount of players who want to spend that is minimal.

As I said before, rockstars greed have priced themselves out of shark cards. Keeping the price needs low, make far more micro transactions.

Every game company has changed over the years to maximise profits, be it with different methods.

Personally I prefer R*s way. Glitching money as and when glitches come up, plus the gift that is the pac std glitch (just made another million in the last hour and I've barely done anything) means never having to pay for the constant updates.

The game is 3 years old, yet we still play it. And for free. That's amazing. No other game I buy comes near that.

Compare that to say, From Software. I play DS3 for 2 months, then drop it to never play it again. I'll play when there's DLC but I'll have to pay £15.

Or EA with Star Wars. Pay £110 for everything. Lol. Or £15 for a playlist that was skimmed from the main game.

R* are doing what they gotta do and imo are doing it in the best way

I dont have a problem with the idea of shark cards.

Its just that, if you're gonna pump the prices up on everything, then pump up the GTA dollars I get when I purchase a shark card

8 million doesnt even get you through 2 DLC's, yet they want me to spend 100 dollars? Yeah right. For $100, i'd probably want 20 million AT LEAST. Works out to 5 dollars for a million, which I feel is very reasonable considering what one million gets you now.. But of course they'd never do that.

No bang for your buck, so they wont get a dollar outta me. Probably like that with a lot of players too. Prices are way too unreasonable.

If you host Pac Standards with a 60-20-20 split with 3 friends/crew members, you can make $8.25 million in about six hours if you're efficient.

Free updates. But when everything is expensive as hell, are they really free?

Oh dear. Another one of these threads.

OP; The update was free. Yes, sh*t's in-game expensive. But your IRL bank balance is not affected by acquiring the update. Therefore it was free.

Free? Wait, what? I don't actually "acquire" that expensive in-game sh*t unless I pay $10's of millions in GTA$$.

During the time I was grinding for that kind of GTA dough, I could have been learning to code, and by now, I would have gotten a job at Facebook for 5 times what I'm making now. Rockstar cheated me out of my successful career!!

Not only Rockstar it's ruined games full stop. But you'll see in this thread that very few people can see past shiny gold and mirrors.

This.

I see so many things in games that I just know are put in place to make people want/need microtransactions.

I think it will only get worst, I'll just try to see how long I can hold out against the microtransactions.

This is totally irrelevant. Why is there a picture of "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 6" on your signature? Very curious.

When GTA O started in 2013 the most expensive car was Zentorno ($700k). Right now there is plenty of expensive stuff -snip- Pegasus vehicles) and there is still only 8 mln for $60. I think Rockstar should add more money for $60 Shark Card - like a at least 50% more. $12m would be fine.

As someone already stated. This is not true.

Besides the Entity ($795K) and Stinger GT ($875k) would've been more expensive as well.

- And the Rhino, Titan and Buzzard etc have been in the game since 2013, and have always been more expensive than the Adder.

I also believe shark cards to be the reason we didn't get the single player dlc we were promised. Remember 2014 when they announced it? Yeah still not here, due to the success of GTA online.

Agreed.

I think the community may be split evenly on this, but single player GTA V is boring once the story has been done. It feels like a lifetime ago that I went through it myself, that I can barely remember what happened apart from some heists and 'extreme action' events like crashing the plane into the back of the jumbo and the train derailing, yet nothing drives me to live the story again, nor would any expansion to it.

The Shark Card idea was born through lack of any better way to finance Online, and I feel that GTA V in general and this microtransaction method came at exactly the wrong time, just in time to be outdated.

Fortunately I'm sure that counter-strike's 'drops, cases and keys' system (that itself was adapted from TF2) will be copied and applied for where GTA Online goes next. (Buying a key to open a shipping container to get a car with a livery, that can be sold if unwanted, and so forth).

I can't speak for the company of Rockstar, but shark cards definitely ruined GTA Online for the simple fact they killed any chance of us ever seeing an operable casino in GTAO:LS.

I guess it was a stupid point about it being impossible to stay above a million, since I can barely play between working and raising 2 kids.

You can make half a million in like 3 hours. Idk about u op, but if you dedicated yourself to getting rank 10 in gta4 ($7500 a job, $3mil to go from 9 to 10), you sure as hell can manage to get millions in gtao.

Shark cards are not mandatory and take two owns R* so they probably have more influence.

which is why shark cards exist, so people who work can turn money into time, understand? people who play gta online hardcore will never have this issue with money which is where it matters, if the hardcore players are unable to get enough money THEN it's a problem, for you working class folk you turn your money into time in the game. working as intended, and it's perfectly fine.

If I'm gonna pay $100 for in game currency when the game costs $60, I better have infinite cash.

Still waiting for the myth known as single player dlc. Maybe it will come out the next 2014 like they said it will.

Oh how I remember when people were outraged when horse armor was $3. Such a good deal compared to what we experience in modern games.

Look at The Episodes for Liberty City. What $30 gives you everything in both games plus all the extra stuff they added for gta iv multiplayer.

Paid DLC for $30 that gives you 2 full games plus multiplayer stuff added > $100 cash card microtransactions that give you enough virtual currency for 5% of the games buyable things.

Most Forum members would recommend that OP get his priorities straight - as in: Fake his death, abandon his family, go live in a trailer in the mountains with nothing but a bigscreen TV and a console, and play GTA Online all day. That's how they do it. Life and family are unnecessary distractions.

People just can't be bothered with investing time in it but want everything right now. For that easy road shark cards are the answer.

I don't know - how much do all the Pegasus vehicles cost? I'd guess at $100M+.

So if shark cards are the answer to being able to get everything ... That could get expensive.

With ''everything'' I meant the new things that get added to the game: people want to have the new stuff right away and can't be bothered with putting time into the game to actually earn the money to buy it so instead they buy shark cards. But those cards aren't forced upon you. The new things can be bought just as easily if you play the game and earn money yourself. But yeah maybe buying all the Pegasus vehicles will be costly, but at that point you should ask yourself the question ''Do I really need all these vehicles? Do I need a 10 million dollar plane when one that only costs a tenth of that does the exact same thing?'' The way that I play the game is that I have to make choices. I know I will never own every single thing in the game, so I just buy the things that are of most use to me. And so far that hasn't cost me a single shark card yet.

This is not like any previous GTA title. This is an MMO. This is closer to World of Warcraft than Call of Duty in terms of gameplay.

We customize our characters. We level up. We build attributes (driving, shooting, flying, etc). We travel to heroic instances with a group (heists). We farm (crates). We grind (heists/missions). We unlock (heist unlocks, level unlocks).

This is not a game you can play after school/work for 1-2 hours and expect to have 'everything' or even 'most' without a Shark Card.

I know that's not what 99% of you want from a GTA title, but that's what this has evolved to ... for better or worse.

Just be glad none of you have to mine on EVE Online or StarCitizen. LOL
