My experience of "Cunning Stunts"

I'm enjoying these races for what they are and worth. This is the best DLC we have had and I've bought everything! My only gripe? Those demolition derby races, that are in every god damn race, not one, or two but every race. There is always a group of people who have to slam everyone everywhere and just mess up everything.

I find myself asking what is the point racing in lobby's with randomers when the average gta player is a douchebag? Should I just grip my teeth, as my car is spun out by some asshole, or watch the group infront of me battle like they are fighting for a woman at a hillbilly bar? No, I just can't. I can't play with these animals who, instead of enjoying a good, fun and etiquette race. They just want to smash, slam and "I WANNA WIN, BECAUSE I AM ME" all over the place. Whatever happened to racing because I enjoy the speed, circuitry and passion? Instead, I find myself playing with friends and crew members as I am painfully urn't from a memory of why I stopped racing on gta in the face place. gta, was not mean't for normal racing, it was mean't for selfish battles.

This is my experience from the new races and well gta races in general. How do you find them? Do you not mind being spun out, or are you the type who just wants to win by any means and screw the fun?

(Not sure if this is a Share Your Stories or B&M -worthy post)

The design of some of these tracks can cause even the best drivers to occasionally collide. I just race with the assumption that others will try to hit me so I do what I can to pass where it's wide or where I can fool them into blocking left and then zoom past on the right. Also, the worst scrubs will fly off the track due to their own lack of skill with no one near them, so being knocked off early doesn't mean you're out of hope.

There's no non-contact option. Few hosts will turn off slipstream or no-child-left-behind. So, using Mariokart terminology, go into these races like they are VS. races instead of Cup races. There's several reasons why Forzia and Gran Turismo don't have tracks with loops and corkscrews. These are wacky races, so you can't be so serious in them or you're setting yourself up for a bad time.

I think they can be a lot of fun, but the constant ramming does get under my skin. I've been in a lot of races where everyone tries to race clean for the most part, but I've been in just as many that were filled with douchebags. Now, crashes are bound to happen during full races, especially on certain narrow tracks, which I don't mind...But when it's clearly intentional, it really pisses me off. I always try to race clean, but I will spin someone out if they mess with me and I catch back up to them.

More often than not, if you're lucky enough to avoid the inevitable pile up early on, you're almost guaranteed to place well...But no matter how skilled you may be, if you find yourself caught in the carnage, it can be very difficult to recover from it. Sometimes I'll hang back a bit and let the others duke it out, and pass when the route is clear. If you can manage to seperate yourself from the pack, it tends to be pretty smooth sailing from there on out.

A few bumps here and there make for exciting moments in races.

It only gets boring when xXxYOLOSWAG420KWIKSCOPEZxXx, usually driving a a chromed X80 or T20, insists on swiping and hitting everyone who's remotely close by.

Hang back from the pack, let the inevitable carnage ensue and then slip by (relatively) unscathed. That's what I do.

Plummet.... there needs to be non contacts.

The f*cking dickweeds spin each other out on the 200mph hill at the start.

How is that going to help? It's funny with friends, but with randoms... It's infuriating.

Plummet is the absolute worst when it comes to ramming and crashes. It's one of my favorites because it's so chaotic, but there's a ton of luck involved in that race. No matter how good you are, it's incredibly easy to get caught in the crossfire.

A lot of the crashes are unintentional though, especially with 16 players.

I think what Ash said is the most important thing to bear in mind - it's going to be chaos, but in a way it's supposed to be. I usually come in mid-table but I'm okay with that - I'm not playing to massage stats or virtual bank balances.

I've played more stunt races in the last two days than regular races in the last six months. I find these 'legit' stunt tracks far more fun than other race types (and that includes the user-generated stunt stuff we've had until now, 99% of which is trash).

I like to mute the in-game radio, put on some high-tempo house or cheesy trance music and embrace the silliness :D

Not really. Just wish the hivemind had a little more imagination, that's all.

These tracks are too narrow. They are significantly more narrow than a two lane highway or even side street.

And inside those stupid metal tubes there is nowhere to go but up someone elses @ss unless you wanna try to go sideways and risk flipping.

Its by design.

Yup. If you can't get out to an early lead, leaving the pack behind you to crash into each other, then you need to hang back and slip through the first opening you see after everyone else is already spinning out and flying around.

So much butt hurt in this thread. Just embrace it. Someone tussles you, you don't go crying to the forum, you man up and tussle back.

Putting non contact as an option on stunt races would be a win for the kill joy

I don't really care much about that, it's gta, it's bound to happen. For the most part, at least in my experience, I haven't run into many people who will spin you out of 1st place. I do however hate those people who do nothing but crash and slam others.

I was racing on Duel when I came to a bend and the guy behind me slammed into me full speed when I hit the brakes, sending both of us over the edge. We both respawned and as soon as he could he spun me off the track again. I left after that race, there we like 3 guys just doing that non-stop.

I understand doing it to win, I get it, you like winning. But when people do it without winning in mind, they're just doing it to ruin other people's fun, those people are dicks.

Some passages are indeed too narrow, for example the Chiliad tunnel, where some dickbag decided, if he isn't gonna win, neither should the pole position (me) and struck a bird from the window, blocking the street. i pressed respawn, drove through him, but lost the race anyway.

Otherwise, not much people use the walls or the ceiling in the tube.

I also hosted some races, everyone told me to turn slipcream ketchup on, in the end, they called me names because they couldn't ram me with slipstream and catch up to ram me again, thus losing the race.

I've had so much fun testing the tracks solo, seeing what I can do on the jumps and loops only to try it against people I don't know and get knocked off every non-barriered road, span out in the tunnels and people blocking the finish so you ram them across the line. If I find myself in first, you can count on being screwed over by catchup and sometimes lack the speed to dive into slipstreams of the guy passing you.

As host you can expect everyone to insult you if you don't leave their beloved slipstream and catchup on as they know they have no chance without it and it just turns into a tedious grind to cross the finish as you experience the toxicity of your average GTA player.

TLDR I'm a salty guy who is pissed off by casual gamers.

That 'on purpose' sh*t is what pisses me off. But I did realize last night that they're meant to be taken less seriously.

I just wanna get that 500th win! I was at 494 when this sh*t came out, since then- 3-20.

It's not even about winning. It's about griefing and rage-baiting. Rockstar enables and encourages it; the players predictably, compulsively do it. That's what GTA Online is all about.

On topic: I tried one of these races just now. Was pitted in the first second, off the track, fell hundreds of feet to the ground. By the time I pressed "Y" I was dead last for the rest of the "race." Completely predictable. Another DLC success story. My ass.

Just had the most pleasant lagging out experience ever.

After being knocked around by rammers, they all of a sudden stood still or drove off the tracks, like being hit by neutron bomb.

Drove leisurely past their empty cars before they all "left"

Honestly, most all racing games you play online are like that. Everyone will try to wreck you to get first place. Need for Speed. Forza. The Crew. And of course gta online. Its f*cking gta online lol

A scenario I've seen a lot is, in 1st place I get rammed I catch up to 3rd and see both 1st and 2nd in a ram fight, wait until they do each other in. :)

I love these races, I don't race to win (would be nice) when loads racing I like to get as high as possible in the mayhem race and have fun.

I think for some I may race solo for fun, as when doing with others I may not end up finishing the track.

Not raced in months, and with this stunt one (done by Rockstar and not user created), this has brought racing fun back for me.

Hanging back to avoid the carnage, I remember The Commute, pile-up in the tunnel and I drive past smoothly.

I did one race with my BF400, ramp and flip - way too far and missed the checkpoint lol

EDIT: Must admit catch-up is a fuking pain, e.g just did a race, 4 players in total, 1 fell off the ramp, the other 2 messed up the ramp jump and crashed, me leading (hoping for 1 lap as I can see the finish line, nope it's 2), no crash by me and I end up second!

Also find it funny when the host turns custom on for sports/super but off for motorcycles.

I have see guys seemingly jump ahead to the next Check Point and be parked sideways across it, and of course I'd hit them and find them again at the next CP so there's that, and the fastest time on Plummet is a 17 second ET which is truly impossible so already there is some kind of cheat going on

I like that part, since there is no No-contact option it's fair to assume it's going to be a dirty race unless we're all friends. Even then bumping happens, sometimes it helps too... I was 2nd place near the end of a race without catchup and got rammed from behind and got the win. Since then i've learn to take the good and the bad from contact races.
