Discuss: The first checkpoint on a race doesn't register

For what I have noticed, this problem has existed for few weeks now. I play on PS4 so I don't know if it happens on other platforms too.

 

So the issue is you start a race in a public lobby, get in the lead, through the first checkpoint and boom..."wrong way". You just went through a checkpoint but it didn't register and now you have to respawn or drive back dodging other players coming at you.

 

Needless to say this is extremely annoying and usually happens when you start the race from the front of the grid. I know this happens to some other people too, because last time it happened few other players turned around too after "missing" the first checkpoint.

 

Let's discuss this topic and what might cause it to happen. Also I'd like to know if it happens on other platforms too.

 

I hoped that the Cunning Stunts update would bring a fix to it but no...

Yes this has been happening for a long time, luckily it doesn't happen all that often. It mostly happens in very crowded lobbies, like a full 30 player Congestion Charge for example. Something to do with lag I guess. Man I hate it when that happens.

Yeah it's been happening for some time before 1.35 now. If you don't see your race info (position, lap time, total time) before you hit the first checkpoint then you WILL have this happen. The longer the first checkpoint is away from the start the less likely this is to happen. It definitely only happens in large lobbies to. When it does happen though... chaos.

For me it's more random than that. Could happen at literally any checkpoint for me. For whatever reason, it'll just decide that you didn't pass right through the f*cking thing, and then cheese you out of your position and tell you to turn around. Very annoying.

Happens mostly for me in Congestion Charge like labrat said.

It pisses me off so much. 2016 and it still happens. Okay R*.

Yea.. on some of the races R* makes the jumps too big and oh fly OVER the checkpoint which is crap. They are JUMPS we are suppose to HIT the jumps not go over like a speed bump

Yeah, for real.

 

A couple of them even have speed boosters right before the jump, which would lead one to believe that you're SUPPOSED to hit it as fast as possible.

Exactly. I find this to be a big problem in most of the motorcycle stunt races, even when not using custom vehicles.

Yep, you can pretty much lose the race with that sh*t. Then you have to deal with the pile-up.

 

I always just hit 'Respawn', but there are a few 'Total Fu*king Geniuses' out there who think it's a better idea to simply drive back to the missed checkpoint. WHY? WHY are you doing that? 'Hey lets drive into oncoming traffic'. Idiots.

The problem I have is that I do flips on jumps and miss check points but I always turn back and drive to the missed checkpoint
