Reasons why Vice City Stories is better than V

Recommended Posts

I can't say it's better than any GTA, honestly every GTA has its own perks, i quite enjoyed GTA VCS, and just finishing up on a whole series playthrough it holds up to it's bigger siblings very well. One of the plus points was the Empire Building which was addictive and fun, i also enjoyed the story, although Lance was a sort of a prick to say the least. VCS is a great game in of itself, since i just bought a ps2 (yeah, really late to the party on that front) i can't wait to replay the game again.

The soundtrack is better, obviously, but as a game, I wouldn't even suggest this was better than GTA V. Why would the developers intentionally make another home console GTA game that isn't as good as one that was originally made for the PSP almost a decade previous?

I played VCS today for the first time in 4 years. Now I can't say if all the missions were better, because I swear I haven't played them in long time. Though I remember the story was good, and I'll never forget Phill screaming daddy.... while being drunk. Anyway:

-Radio

-Better melee combat

-A ton more things to do, like 22 side missions and activities all together

-80's vibe

The soundtrack is way better than V's. Every radio station had something worth listening to on it, and it was full of loads of great songs. Even VCPR wasn't bad (though "Pressing Issues" should have still been the only show on it and it was easily the best out of all of the programs available, but even that fishing talk show was better than anything on WCTR).

What new really added GTA V instead of any 3D GTA?They added small details, making world realistic, driving and shooting fun, but under skin its worse than any GTA before.

VCS has atmosphere, amazing soundtrack, well written characters, cars that are really fun.

Story over shiny city all the way.

What could have been added more? Aren't those enough fun lol? After all, most of the GTA games are similar to each other, since the main concept will always remain still.

Besides, I have to agree on that atmosphere one. Same for LCS, maybe it's because they were the background games of two great games and they were polished more intensely, and actually I am thinking the time period they take place has a considerable effect on this too. If the upcoming GTA games would take place in those time periods, I believe the games would reflect that atmosphere way more better. Even, 2000s would do it.

  • Victor Vance > The GTA V Trio
  • Martinez and the Mendez brothers > All of GTA V's antagonists combined
  • Every single character of Vice City Stories > All of GTA V's characters combined
  • Vice City Stories' story > V's story
  • Vice City > Los Santos (the latter was bigger and more detailed, but never was atmospheric. It's too much of a Hollywood playground, or whatever it shall be called.)
  • Empire building > Any of GTA V's side-missions
  • Vice City's gangs > Los Santos' gangs
  • Vice City Stories soundtrack > V's soundtrack
  • No Trevor Philips

The list goes on and on...

Umm... Objectively?

The hand to hand combat system

Ok what else lets see...

NPCs using 2 handed weapons when doing drive-byes

Ok now the next one...

Empire mechanics that Trevor should have had...

Ok next umm...

More vehicle side missions

Alrght then there's um... well um... yeah that's about all I got to say that's objective...

There really isn't much not to say that VCS is a bad game its just... most of it is just subjective ya know?

-Vic Vance

-The story was far more believable.

-Likeable characters and threatening and memorable antagonists (unlike those douches Weston and Haines and Stretch and Cheng which I don't know which).

-Empire Buildings

-Fighting Mechanics

-Radio Stations

-Far better multiplayer

-Phil Collins!!

VCS can be played on mobile

I hate to burst your bubble but VCS was never ported to mobile because C* was focused on Online.

Empire Building, an interesting criminal system than GTA V should've had, you literally played as an alledged drug dealer, with his own meth and arms trafficking organization, but how they did you interact with it? That's it, nothing, oh, aside from a bunch of heavily scripted side missions that are also scripted for two vehicles, 5 missions for land (a dune buggy) and 5 for air (Cuban 800) and that's it, no more of them, you can't do them in your own, open world way, when you repeat them they are exactly the same missions with the exact same dialogue and the exact same objectives, they are very few, there is almost no payement from them, and even if that was a lot for the start of the game, it ends up feeling extremely redundant. No interaction with a gang (and hardly there are members or your bussinesses (and hardly there is any), no progression, no real criminal organization, they could've made TPI something deep in single player, a gang that you could expand with a reclutation system and different bussinesses that you could either buy or take the hard way with a system that could mix both SA gang wars and VCS's empire takeover, and each of them could be assigned with a different type of bussiness that you could exploit and manage, maybe you could take Clunking Bell's factory for drug-trafficking or even use the meth-lab Trevor already has in Liquor Ace, and the way to supply it could have been a Drug Wars system similar to TBoGT's taking places in different places of the map, like the abandoned motel for example, where you could take gang members, heist crew or even the two other protagonists with you, GTA V could have been this and even more, but what we got? Yoga and rubbed-banded races.

It's mindblowing how a portable game from 2006 has more interesting open world content than a 200 million budget console game from 2013, GTA VI should definitely take some notes from VCS. Rockstar should be ambitious with GTA again.
