Just turn contact off as a default setting and may the best driver win.

Let non-contact be an option for each player. We choose to be ghosted or not. If it was a GTA race then the feature wouldn't be available.

I suppose that makes sense too.

I mean, by choosing to be non-contact, you lose your ability to PIT others, but can't have it done to you. So that makes it balanced.

I hate non contact, because it's no longer a race, it's just a time trial. That's not racing.

There should be a system where if you're getting close to being lapped then you should ghost, that would make the most sense in my view.

Impossible on stunt races.

I can imagine these pvssy gta non contact racers wanting to play mariocart with non contact.

A smart filter would also be nice. It would eliminate all players like you from joining my races. LOL

the system has a big flaw, when #1 #2 and #3 are somewhat on the same height, #1 and #3 are within reach and should not be ghosted. also overlapping...

Valid, but the worst that can happen is one car being randomly ghosted to another. It, at worst, would cause a little confusion. I think that's a small price to pay to get rid of the reverse drivers.

Isn't that more or less what I'm suggesting?

Contact on, slipstream on, catchup off is the only setup that's somewhat based in real world driving physics.

What happens in the real world (to me) isn't that relevant to the game. You can have a little artistic license in order to make the game more enjoyable.

What I'm suggesting would only have a seriously negative effect on those who like to drive backwards/block parts of the track, so that (along with the edge-iness of your post) makes me question your agenda.

Point taken though, you don't like the idea. Valid enough.

But it shouldn't be.

It's not about making the races sterile, it's about trying to combat the strong troll element that exists in racing. I don't mind some playful Argy-Bargy and it's not possible to completely avoid bumping into other drivers, but a lot of people are joining races purely to grief other players. Those fu*kwits who seem happy to lose a race as long as they can smash into whoever happens to be in front of them aren't racing they're just being arseholes.

You can see in OPs clip what that player is doing, something I'm sure we're all familiar with. 'Taxiing' anyone? Those people aren't interested in racing, they're just your typical GTAO knobends. Don't get me wrong, I can give as good as I get if someone tries to pit me or otherwise screw me over, but I don't want to race like that, that's what GTA races are for.

And there we have a conundrum:

Do those players who think that non-contact is for pussies want all races to be GTA? Or do you accept that there's a middle ground for people who want to race like grown-ups and not a bunch of smash-happy kids?

I wouldn't want it, it's fun as sh*t creating monster truck road blocks on that horse track race where there's loads of laps.

But if it were implemented I gueess it would make sense to have anyone not moving or moving backwards ghosted, still wouldn't want it though, I love the commotion of races.

Stunt races have been f*cking hilarious watching people try to take me out only to veer of the course and fly into the side of a building.

lol that gif, they should also do something to some checkpoints on those stunt races, such a BS that you pass right through them and it doesn't count, specially the ones after ramps and jumps.

I like this idea, and if it does not work another system could be put in place like this:

If the game detects a player that is stationary or moving at a speed slower than a given number for three seconds or so, like 15 mph, they are ghosted to all players, and they will be un-ghosted when they move past that speed after something like 5 seconds, along with a similar system, but for the people that like to fly down the track going the wrong way, going the wrong way for more than three seconds, ghosted, then un-ghosted when they drive the right way for more than 5 seconds .

That stops the idiots who like to sit in narrow sections of the track to cause major wrecks, and the ones who go the wrong way to spoil the race, its not foolproof, but it would make race griefing much harder.

Replacing catch-up ( seriously, I have never played a game with a racing mode that intentionally punishes you for doing well ) with this would be a good start, and added caveat with this is that this feature could be turned on or off ( with the exception to GTA races, which in that case, should always be off, because there, anything goes ), depending on if you want some chaos in this race.

exactly minus your insult.

I usually leave if I join a non contact race.

I dont think intelligence has any part in this. Its just a preference.

No, it's a time trial, like he said.

I agree with the idea, it'd improve things but still allow racing between the people close together. I think maybe make it so that 3/4 cars together can touch though, but if a car ends up too far ahead it goes to ghost to avoid people being lapped.

Technically, there wasn't an insult there. Well, no more than you calling people "pvssies". You're just interpreting it that way.

It would be very awkward at the very start of a race, heading into the first corner for example, where players often get grouped up together, and race positions are changing rapidly until the field becomes more stretched out.

The "smart" filter was an obvious jest by Lola to me.

I was just generalizing about the fact that people whined to rockstar (true) to get non contact added to the game(this happened). All because they didn't want another player to occupy the same space in an online game playing a competitive mode.

Maybe pvssy is harsh. It was extremely childish by the fan base to ask for this. No other online game has anything similar to non contact if its supposed to be competitive.

Most other games don't have stupid 12 year olds going down the track backwards. Or, at least, I'd imagine they don't.

At any rate, what I'm suggesting isn't strictly speaking, non-contact. Under this system, you would still be able to ram the person ahead of you, and behind you - just not people several places ahead of you, who you could only realistically ram anyway by going down the track the wrong way (which is a complete d*ck move, and one I'm sure any racer would love to see cracked down on).

A good way to improve races is to put cars and bikes in proper categories. You know the usual suspects like Blista Compact and so on, everyone who's into racing knows the story.

But a good idea is to have all-class races, like in Midnight Club. Bikes vs cars, muscle with off road and so on. Imagine a race where a Blade, Omnis, Sanchez, Bullet and 9F a rolling in the same race.

Anybody remember Motorstorm?

No? Me neither.

But the internet tells me that people used to block the track by moving at slow speeds or sitting stationary in the larger vehicles. This was a problem in a huge amount of online races until the devs made it so stationary or excessively slow players are ghosted until they return to the race.

This was a game from 2007, yet GTA, which came out in 2013 and is still being regularly updated, still doesn't have any kind of anti-griefing measures for racing, and hardly any at all for any other mode.

Good sh*t, OP. I endorse this.

Turn off contact by default.

And have Slipstream off in Premium.

Best way to improve racing.

Technically you've always been able to do that. I raced "Bati RR vs a Savage"... in an Impromptu Race

Golf Course parking lot to Simeon's dealership, several times back and forth

No, that's not what you (and many more of us) want but at least we know that Rockstar could do it if they want. Current-gen and PC can handle up to 16 (30 if they're lucky) different vehicles in the memory at once.

A great idea that can be easily implemented with a few tweaks to codes, but sadly won't be because it doesn't gather shark card sales or fix a dupe glitch.
