I like how you're slamming people for spending their money on superfluous things by advising them that they should spend it on things that have actual value and fulfill necessity.

Common sense.

Fixed that for you.

Since when does a holiday have value? It's not like you can sell it on when you're finished with it.

Are you seriously suggesting that a nice vacation with the family during summer or spring break isn't as rewarding as buying an overpriced virtual supercar you rarely drive?

LOL

Woah woah - when did we make the jump from "value" to "reward"? These are different things.

A holiday has zero value - you pay for it, you "own" it, and when it's over, it's gone. Unlike sofas and cars, it does not depreciate (or conversely, become more valuable) over time - it depreciates instantly You cannot store it a warehouse until it becomes a classic ten years later and then sell it on to make a profit. In that sense, it has the same value as a Shark Card.

Determining the "reward" is in the eye of the beholder. You like going on holiday, or buying sofas - good for you! If that's what you enjoy, and you saved your money for that, more power to you. As of yet no-one's entered this thread and slammed you solely for spending your hard earned money on holidays or sofas. Same goes for the OP - he's spent his hard earned money on a Shark Card for a game he enjoys. He's got enjoyment out of it, and he's happy. At which point, I fail to see why there's suddenly a problem, since his enjoyment did not - in any way, shape or form - infringe upon your own.

So this begs the question; What business is it of yours to lambast the OP - or anyone - who buys a Shark Card, based solely on your own preconceptions of value, happiness and reward?

Having said that, it is OP's right to do as he pleases, and that's fair enough. I, for one, will not support the cards though.

This is the key. I doubt anyone is truly fan of microtransactions, but they exist, and they're not going away. You don't have to support them if you don't want to - they're optional. But you should respect the right of others to buy and enjoy them.

I was thinking... What if Rockstar offer a T-Shirt for a Megalodon card, would you even consider to buy it?

@ SmoothLongsack : Normally I'd agree with you, but specifically with video games its about time spent grinding vs enjoyment. At the moment, Rockstar expects us to do far, far too much grinding than is acceptable, which is done on purpose to further shark card sales.

@ AGNT009 : No worries man, like I've already said it's perfectly fine if you buy a shark card. A person is not automatically scum in my eyes if they do buy one, what I'd rather do is show frustration at the practice itself, not the consumer. It's not your fault, Rockstar designed the game not you. What I do fault people for however is defending an inexcusable business practice.

*emotional posting and insults on my character because someone posted an opinion that differs from theirs*

Heh...internet tough guys, dont you just love 'em? For someone who is concerned about "bitching" you sure do a whole lot of it in this post. All I see here is a lot of "boo hoo" because someone dared have an opinion that's different from yours. Which is typical of fan-addicts. They like to fly into a rage and accuse someone of "bitching" when they see something they don't like. They also love to draw the old chestnut known as "entitled", which is basically a dogwhistle that someone is fan-addict and will stop at nothing to defend bad business practices. Let's break this nonsense down, shall we?

Let's start with how you project that people are feeling "superior":

The entitlement on some people here is just pathetic. Seriously... most people bashing on shark cards had to glitch or mod their way out and still you feel superior. I can see a lot of Guy Fawkes masks in this thread...

There's the ol' "entitlement" thing again. If you don't love video game companies nickel and diming you, then youre "entitled"! ROFL. You then go onto throw out some fantastic ad hominem ( https://i.imgur.com/VbJiaYM.jpg ) attacks that have little to do with anything, just you getting emotional because someone disagreed with you. After making some brilliantly sweeping and generalizing statements about people you dont know you then hypocritically proceed with the projection that people are posting their opinions to feel "superior" to others. Which is ironic, because you then proceed to do just that with your post.

On the positive side, it's good to see people like OP enjoying his money the way he feels better. Way more funny than doing some obscure and annoying glitch. It's like hanging out with your friends or having a few drinks is cheaper than buying money in some game.

Ah, so a disgusting free2play/freemium model is okay because it doesn't cost more than a night buying expensive drinks at a bar. Well, I'm convinced. Not. (Actually, a night out with friends is money much better spent than buying fake money in a game that will one day shut down and said currency will be rendered worthless. Think about it: Those memories of good times with friends will last a long time, whereas GTAOnline's time, and items to buy, are finite.)

Yeah, because as we know, developing the game and marketing didn't require any money and they got a billion in profit. And of course, the developers that keep the game updated and create the DLCs work for free, right? f*cking assholes, trying to make their business afloat, what's wrong with them? Implementing entirely optional microtransactions and giving free content, they're greedy as hell...

Sigh...MUST you trod out every tired and debunked argument in the GTAOnline fan-addicts playbook? First: I already explained why these updates are not at all "Free". (Reading comprehension fail #1. ) I'll do you a solid though and explain it you one more time: The data is free to download, sure, but the actual content is locked behind a paywall of Online currency. You can only get it by grinding, which thanks to the terrible ingame "economy", takes longer than is reasonable. Or buy a shark card. In no way can that be interpreted as "free" except by desperate and wrong people trying to use it as the cruxt of their failed argument.

Second: I'll be the first to admit I'm no games industry insider, but I'm pretty sure a Billion dollars (and God knows how much more they've made SINCE then) most certainly covers all of the development, advertising budget, patches what have you. Even on a triple-A game. To argue otherwise is delusional. As I've already stated in this thread (reading comprehension fail #2), it's not a matter of "they have to sell shark cards or they'll go bankrupt". That is absolute nonsense. Doubly so considering they were too cheap to even shell out for dedicated servers for their gigantic online component and instead force people to use peer-to-peer hosting, which is inexcusable.

You really have balls to say such stupid thing when a few posts ago you said:

You sure added a lot to the topic, like being a complete ass.

Calm down. It's an internet forum. People are allowed to post opinions that differ from yours, Stalin. That was me trying to take the high road and quietly express my disdain for fan-addicts who defend Take2/R*'s annoying business practices with gusto, not realizing they are happily defending a oractice which is absolutely toxic (freemium/free2play) for no reason other than blind loytaly. Obviously that failed, seeing as fan-addicts cannot help but draw people into their little pissy fits because someone disagreed with them, and now here we are. Thankfully since I consider educating people enjoyable I like to logically explain to raving fan-addicts exactly why they are wrong, possibly more than I even enjoy playing GTAO itself, which really says something about GTAO's gameplay. At least this forum has a never ending supply of delusionals who want to get into an argument with me whereas thanks to GTAO's crappy matchmaking system it's hard to even find someone to play with.

I don't know why is people so entitled to this concept being new. Back in the 90s if you wanted an expansion of some game you already owned you HAD to buy the game again (hello Mortal Kombat, hello Street Fighter). Oh, and how about buying magazines or guides in order to have access to cheat codes or secrets that gave you the upper hand?

Now, this is an amazingly hypocritical statement. You list the annoying nickel and dime things the games industry used to pull, (which I agree with), and then proceed to defend the same type of practice. I was actually amazed at how close you were to being self aware of it, but then you just doubled down on your unwillingness to see anyone else's point. Sad.

I'll explain this simple: MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE ENTIRELY OPTIONAL

I agree with season passes being utter crap, but we live in a different time now.

It's inexcusable for a game company to willingly withhold so much "optional" content behind paywalled DLC, especially considering R* used false advertising by showing both the Hydra and Seaplane in early trailers, implying they would be in the singleplayer game in 2013, only to pull a bait and switch and release them years later for online-only players, locked behind a paywall. That is unacceptable. You then go on to actually agree with me and say that DLC nickel and diming is bad, only to then hastily pull a complete 180 and justify said practices because "we live in another time". Which is nonsense.

Developers now have the option of fixing and adding new stuff to their games without having to sell a new version of it. They don't work for free, most games still need microtransactions in order to cover the costs of all the patches, marketing and content created.

Nice moving of the goalposts to somehow imply that people are complaining about patches: No one is doing that, I'm certainly not doing that. Nice strawman, though. Also again, I already debunked why "poor old rockstar HAS to sell shark cards or theyll be forced to file for chapter 11" is a trash argument. (Reading comprehension fail #3) After this though you then proceed to take your argument completely off the rails:

But sure, it's easy to feel like you're getting scammed. That's the kind of attitude I see in jobless people, many of you want all the goodies and feel entitled to a fresh game without willing to give crap for it.

What is this rambling nonsense? Seriously, what is this? There you go again, judging people whom you have no idea or understand about. Many, many, people have expressed their feelings as to why the freemium model is bad. Are they all entitled jobless losers? Interesting point considering many people games journalists to even the makers of South Park have criticised the freemium/free2play model, and they have jobs. I'm willing to bet they make more money than you do. I certainly have a job, which leads to my next point:

Lots of adults who have to balance work, school and a social life don't have time to grind endlessly to afford a new car or plane. This game is played for recreation, it IS NOT A JOB. We shouldn't have to work at it 9-5 monday-friday just to afford some of the ingame items. People forget this sometimes. Once you have to toil at it for hours and hours with jobs that pay a pittance, it becomes unfun. Ironically, someone would have to jobless to be able to have the time to grind long enough to afford some of this stuff. Rockstar absolutely knows this, and they know people would rather just grab a shark card and be done with it, paying another $50-$100 in the process, possibly more considering even the most expensive shark card gives you a pathetically low payout.

It doesn't work that way, and still, Rockstar managed to find a way to keep the game constantly updated AND making microtransactions entirely optional.

Again, (reading comprehension fail #4) if it's what you want what was advertised in the base game's trailers, than it's a clear example of a bait and switch. That is not honorable and it's not worthy of a defense.

(quote limit reached here so I'll just use quotation marks)

"Can you buy RP? Stronger guns? Faster cars? More health? Super speed? Are you obligated to buy shark cards? No? Cool, now stop bitching and let people be."

More rambling nonsense. Yes, you can indeed buy stronger guns and faster cars, that is exactly what we're talking about here.

You then close your argument with a command that people stop "bitching" (read: discussing things in such a way that upsets you) and "let people be", which we are. I've already stated ITT that people are fully allowed to buy what they like. (reading comprehension fail #5)

So, now that your argument, bizzarre talking points, and strange and rambling ad homenim attacks have been debunked, lets get the full tally:

Reading comprehension fails: 5

Use of ad-hominem : 3

Verdict: Debunked.

I'm sure you'll want to type up and even more legnthy response to this, and I gladly await it. Doesn't mean I'm going to bother responding though, we'll see. If it's a compelling, rational, and sound argument, I'd be willing to reconsider. If not though, I'm just going to put you on ignore. Was fun discussing GTA with you. Good day sir or madam.
