Capitalism at it's finest.

Again you're missing the point. Add-up the in-game price of all the top end items in the game from EAOC to now including all vehicles. You're into $100 million easy. That's a lot of fu*king shark cards. And that's exactly the point.

R* themselves are creating the demand for Shark Cards, they're not the handy tool for the casual gamer that's claimed.

What people miss is that casual gamers aren't being saved time by cash cards, since (if we didn't have them) the game wouldn't be so grind-y in the first place.

In a way, it still would be. While I understand your point, there are so many ways to make big money in a short time span that if they weren't so expensive the game would be too...short?

it's not free though. The data itself is free, but the items cost ingame currency. People need to stop pushing this "but its free" narrative because its a half truth and not at all whats really going on.

my iq just dropped 50 points

Maibatsu is right: Nowadays you either spend all day grinding in order to buy one car, buy 2-3 Megalodon Shark Cards every update or buy one of those very tempting modded accounts sell everything you bought in the previous DLCs.

these items are free. you arent forced to buy anything. the fact they cost something ingame doesnt mean they arent free

Also, why would you avoid spending money by spending money on a modded account?

No, that part is irrelevant since everything we discuss here is ingame. On a gaming board, dedicated to a game. Meta as f*ck.

It stopped being free when Rockstar wanted your 60 dollars in exchange for the game disc.

Then it continued not being free when they decided that a GTA dollar was worth 100/8.000.000

So, not free. The fact that you can acquire these GTA dollars by means other than actually spending the real money does not change the fact that the GTA dollar has a very real value.

Sure we are. When you say an update is free you are wrong. You paid 60 dollars for the game disc so everything you got then and get now and will continue to get is paid for by that 60 dollars + whatever else you decide to invest in the game in the form of shark cards. So at a minimum, you paid 60 dollars for the complete package. Which is a HELL of a deal for almost three years of entertainment but that is beside the point.

I'm not going to get too involved in this (since it seems to be getting heated), but I will say this:

A lot of the free dlc we've been so generously given is, in fact, just cut content. The Hydra is cut content, the Dodo is cut content. There were even files found for something called "Hind" (the real life Savage is called a Hind).

I do think that when you pay for a game, you've paid for a full game, and not just a game that's had half its content cut out and repackaged for later on.

Free or not free? That's the question. Is anything truly free? If you get a 2+1 deal, with the +1 being advertised as free, why won't they just give it to me without buying those 2 things? Guess it's not as free then. The deal with F2P is not as straightforward, which just means it's a smarter way to sell something not free as 'free'.

Long time ago I had some £5 left in my PSN wallet with nothing to buy so just out of curiosity I looked at the shark card prices... That cheapest one would get me GTA$200,000. Ridiculous doesn't begin to describe it.

my iq just dropped 50 pointsDamn, so now it must be at -50? It's been properly explained why the DLC, while free to download only, is either a waste of your time or your money to buy the overpriced sh*t in this game once the "free" dlc has been downloaded. I'd be glad to explain it further but its pointless with you because hey, fan-addicts gonna fan-addict. That's your prerogative. I'm not ginna waste my time trying to explain to people who just want to be flippant and ignore facts.

2.) Getting kind of sick of these dopey "its their money" comments:

Heads seem to care a little too much what other people on the internet spend their money on.. smh. It's not that deep..

Pay to play or play to pay. OP can spend his money how he wants.

Except "pay to play" is NOT how it should be. (Good lord the Fremium model is ruining gaming. People actually defend this sh*t. Emperors new clothes all over again.) On the second bit, you are right. Of course players have every right to spend their money how they like. Just like we have every right to call people who buy this crap morons. They are not exempt from judgement just because "its their money", if youre arguing in favor of shark cards, you can be damn sure I'm going to put in a word to the contrary. Freemium and Free2Play models are a disease that is slowly ruining everything fun about gaming, To argue otherwise is to simply be misinformed. Edited by Maibatsu545

Ya'll are funny. If you've been paying attention to my post history, you should know Ive been bashing Rockstars pricing strategy for a long time. Yeah, I may have "sold out" and bought a few cards, about $90 worth in THREE years, but in the end, Ive been ridiculously frugal, and they arent making a fortune off guys like me. I guess there are plenty of players pumping in BIG money, and the guys like me who have averaged $30 per online year are just icing on their cake. Im still holding strong and getting my point across that their strategy could and should change, and theyd make even MORE money than they already do. If they had been reasonable with their sharkcard pricing, Id have invested a LOT more than $30 a year. Ideally, they made it where $1 got you 1 million, then the super cars and houses etc could stay the same list prices they are now, and you could get so much more with dropping down $5-$10 per month. So Rockstar, if youre reading this, what would have been better to get a highly frugal player like me to give you more money? Being reasonable with your card pricing, where Im not batting an eye to drop $5-$10 a month for 3 years ($180-$360) or being so damn greedy, Im JUST NOW after three years buying a $50 card and youve only got $90 out of me in 3 years. The only MMO I play is Star Trek Online, where I usually pay in about $50 a year to support a game I enjoy from time to time as a very casual gamer in a game thats been going 6 years. I enjoy GTA Online as much as STO, but Rockstar has been even more stingy with their goods than even STO is now with all their lockboxes. I guess the whale money must really be good. But they could have so much more money from reasonable fans with jobs if they were sensible about it.

Its people like you that have made GTA: Online what it is today. Thanks.

Is that meant in a good or bad way, lol?

Both IMO.

Good that people are still paying R* enough money to keep churning out "free" content, but bad for the future of gaming in general.

The old addage "he who pays the piper picks the tune" suggests that updates and future games design philosophy will revolve around appealing to those who would buy cash cards. I'm not sure what kind of content they enjoy, but I suspect it's NOT the same stuff as I enjoy (since I do what I enjoy and have gobs of in-game money). I fear that while plenty of new content will be "free" and the VI will probably be amazing, it might not provide an experience that players like me really enjoy as much as what has come before.

That all said, new cars are OK (wish I had more space to put them. I had to sell a few things I didn't want to sell to make room), but I haven't been really thrilled about the races.... or really racing in general in this game. It seems to be mostly the toxicity of free roam but on wheels and with sh*tty physics. Though a lot of my friends online are really stoked about it and having a lot of fun. Overall I know a lot of people love racing so I'm glad R* threw them a bone.

I'm really hoping we ever see more cooperative PvE content.

If the OP has the disposable income to support such a purchase then more power to him but you really don't get a lot of bang for your buck with shark cards. I just checked their value for the first time. I'm quite shocked how little you get even with a Megalodon.

This. Thanks, Hei3enberg.

As for the OP, spend your money how you see fit. I don't care. I've been very clear in past posts about the microtransaction business model and it's detrimental affect on the GTA franchise. No need to rehash it here. You want to support R*? Knock yourself out.

That said, this DLC I'm 100% on the other side with you OP. A Mariokart/Hotwheels DLC just really isn't GTA to me. It's more table top racing. Stuff like this DLC has made GTA:O a hot mess. I don't know what the f*ck the franchise is anymore. So many opportunties squandered at R* with this game.

No wonder Take Two's boss has said the franchise needs a pause. I think they aren't even sure what they're evolving into, but things like this push GTA farther from it's historical roots and into uncharted territory.

Cheers.

I don't like the direction where this game is going.

Or as some game publishers call it nowadays.. Digital deluxe editions... aka . sh*t that should have been in the game, but we cut out in order to make more money of you suckers editions.

Whats really sad is actually buying cash cards. While some people may do it, i don;t think anyone actually feels better about it afterwards. Because its a complete rip off..

R* has made a fortune off mods. GTA V is really just a hot mess of basic updates that are fueled by new sh*t to buy.

I look at the Fallout 4... and those game devs are allowing mods to be used in game on console now.. And stil put out worth while DLCS like Far Harbour.

IN GTA O you can buy $100 worth of Cash Cards and buy some sh*t... but thats it.

For half that price you can buy Fallout 4 and a DLC. Which is pretty much 60-100 hours worth of game play at the very least. In GTA O.. you get a new car...

People are f*ckin suckers.. and i admit i fell for it to a while ago bought some cash cards. But i ended up regretting it.. And, Im never spending another dime on this game till R* puts out a real dlc for both single player and online.

Wow.. new cars.. and some ramps.. Thats worth about $5 to me... Sure as hell not worth any more then that when a modder could do the same sh*t.. better and release it for free.
