Buying new Desktop, need help

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking of buying this desktop just to pretty much run GTA V with Mods smoothly. $430.00

What do you guys think?

  • Intel Core i7-4790 (3.6GHz) CPU
  • 12GB DDR3 Dual Memory
  • 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive
  • Intel HD Graphics 4600
  • 8X DVD-SuperMulti Double-Layer Drive
  • 802.11ac WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Windows 10 Home
  • USB Keyboard
  • Optical Mouse
  • 300W PW Supply

Is it worth it? I know I need to upgrade the PW supply and Graphics card, can you guys link me to some good deals? That are not too expensive.

With the costs of a decent GPU and PSU on top you'll be looking at the best part of $700. You might was well scratchbuild

I would like to build, but not right now. I just want to know which Video card or PW Supply I need to run the game smoothly, and if its a good build.

It's fine. Something like a GTX970 will run V at 1080p, high settings, 60fps all day long. Any decent brand 500w PSU will do.

Unfortunately most prebuilds PC's comes with obsolete piece of sh*t PSU.

Hows this one?

Alienware X51 R3

  • Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i7-6700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
  • Windows 10 Home 64bit English
  • 1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
  • 8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz
  • Slot load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 with 4GB GDDR5
  • Dell Outlet Alienware X51R3

800$ Pre built

Or this one:

Alienware X51 R3

  • Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i5-6400 Processor (Quad Core, up to 3.3GHz, 6M Cache, 65W)
  • Windows 10 Home 64bit English
  • 1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
  • 8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz
  • Slot load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 with 2GB GDDR5
  • Dell Outlet Alienware X51R3

650$

How about these? Good for the price? (If the 650$ can run GTA V with mods smooth, ill take it.)

Hmm, $800 for a Skylake i7 and GTX970 system isn't awful. You could build yourself cheaper, especially if you went i5.

I'm on a budget so I hope both of these run good:

I'm deciding either this one:

Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i5-6400 Processor (Quad Core, up to 3.3GHz, 6M Cache, 65W)

Windows 10 Home 64bit English

1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz

Slot load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 with 2GB GDDR5

Dell Outlet Alienware

Or

Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i5-6400 Processor (Quad Core, up to 3.3GHz, 6M Cache, 65W)

Windows 10 Home 64bit English

1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz

Slot load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)

AMD Radeon R9 370 4GB GDDR5

Dell Outlet AlienwareR3

Both similar price, the second one is 50$ cheaper.

Which would be the go to? Just to run GTAV smoothly with mods

OP, are you not interested in just building it yourself? Alienware and many other BTO PC companies tend to overprice their builds.

I would, but I dont have time right now. The build i got

Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i5-6400 Processor (Quad Core, up to 3.3GHz, 6M Cache, 65W)

Windows 10 Home 64bit English

1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz

Slot load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 with 2GB GDDR5

Dell Outlet Alienware

for 680$, looks like a good price. i just question the PSU being 330w.

I dont plan to get into future gaming unless the next GTA comes out. I just need something to run good with mods.

It only takes about three or four hours to build your own system.

It it normal for alienware computers to have low PSU? That one has 330W

It's normal for all prebuilds to have just barely enough to live.

OP, is this the Alienware you're looking at? It says it's almost $1200. And, that doesn't even include shipping, which is probably anywhere from $50 to $100.

lol No way i payed that. I had discount codes up to 35% off. I was going to go for that one, it was coming out to $800-865.000 and free shipping.

But instead got: Which was listed as 989$ (around there), but I got it for 650$ after discount. Plus free shipping

Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i5-6400 Processor (Quad Core, up to 3.3GHz, 6M Cache, 65W)

Windows 10 Home 64bit English

1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz

Slot load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 with 2GB GDDR5

Dell Outlet Alienware

Seem like a good deal. I also posted the prices earlier.
