Things you dislike about RDR

I don't like...

 

-When my horse rides away when I try to mount him.

-When corpses/dead animals dissapear before looting/skinning them.

-How Marston can't swim, the moment his chin touches the water, he f*cking dies instantly.

-Lots of houses can't be entered.

-Too many guns for too little enemies. The missions should have more enemies,

-You can't access the big mountain in Cochinay in free roam, only in a mission. That sucks.

-The fact that your horse knows where you are exactly at all times.

-Moses. Creepy dude.

-When doing something say like collecting flowers for a challenge if you don't save and die for whatever reason you lose all your progress. I think this was fixed in Undead Nightmare though. Can't remember entirely.

 

-Melee is poor. Ground tackles are good, but throwing punches looks idiotic.

 

-Lack of story choices. I thought this would've been greatly expanded on since it was introduced in GTA IV, but sadly not.

 

-Really no incentive to play as the "bad guy" making the fame/honour system feel a bit pointless.

It's been a while, from what I remember:

 

Unskippable animations when dissecting (not sure what's the proper word) animals. Fortunately if you stop the horse right next to the animal, the animation doesn't play.

 

Firing the gatling gun makes the controller vibrate constantly, which is annoying.

 

The slowdown mode got kinda dodgy after some upgrades.

 

That knife minigame, [email protected]%$*&£!!!!!!!

 

Random encounters give you boring tasks.

 

Jumping on a train from a horse was buggy IIRC.

 

No sixaxis controls for the horse

Besides that, Red Dead Redemption is the perfect game and no one can tell me otherwise.

The train is handled differently in GTA Online and I wonder if the issues they had with it in RDR led to that. It treats the trains like the cars - they spawn randomly around you and persist in the world only as long as a player is close by. The train in RDR was persistent and the game tracked its progress around the map whether you were near it or not. That might not be possible without a dedicated server hosting the game (i.e. not just handling matchmaking, but spawning the NPCs and so forth).

That middle stage of DeadEye. Makes sense in multiplayer, but is annoying as sh*t in singleplayer.

The only thing I don't like is that you can't swim, it's not too bad since you can wade in certain areas, but still it was a bad step back for a modern game IMO, especially coming right after GTA IV from the same company.

As mentioned by the op, the skittish horses, when called for running away, can be very annoying when trying to escape a gun battle.

 

The melee, fist fights that can't end, would have liked to have been able to stun or knock out enemies instead of the unstoppable ai. I don't know what's in the water in New Austin but whatever it is makes men into unstoppable tanks.

 

I would like to have been able to drop weapons as after a certain point weapons such as the cattleman revolver and repeater carbine become useless.

I don't like punching pedestrians in the game. The hand-to-hand combat makes me cringe. The only advantage I can think about it is ground tackling.

 

I also don't like how the online servers are f*cked up. I miss playing free mode, deathmatches, co-op missions, etc.

• EXTREMELY buggy
• The entire Mexican Civil War part of the story really didn't interest me at all... and you could see De Santa's betrayal coming from ten miles off. And the idea of Bill Williamson, a medium time outlaw, teaming up with Allende, IIRC the leader of the Mexican cavalry and a major political figure, seemed pretty silly to me.
• No swimming. In fact the whole way water areas were dealt with annoyed me. Why does John instantly die if his head goes underwater for a split second? If we're not supposed to swim then we could have at least gotten a limited time to come of of the water before we die. Hell, a quick drowning animation would have been better than nothing.
• Teenage Jack obviously. Young adult Jack was bearable, except for his lame gameplay remarks ("Work ya dayam naaaab!")
• The physics engine is very downgraded compared to IV's
• Melee combat was pretty bare boned. I don't like how you couldn't kill people with just melee.
• Many textures are glitchy and poor (nitpicky, I know)
• Fairly repetitive missions, though I give leniency as it's far more of a shooter than GTA is for example.
• Weapons were poorly balanced. The Cattlemen Revolver and that one that looks like a Spencer Repeater (can't recall) became completely useless within like five missions.
• When John runs he looks like he's just done sh*t himself and he's trying to keep it from slipping out of his undies and down his pants.

That's all I can be bothered to think of now. Still a great game. In dire need of a sequel.

The ONLY thing I don't care for is not being able to skip the skinning cut scene...not because It's gross or bothers me visually, it just gets old after seeing it over and over again.
