When did I ask for chainsaw?

I was referring to 'fun side activities' à la 3D GTA games in general.

My point remains: GTA IV is not perfect, but once you start adding stuff and tinkering with existing stuff, you may break the underlying game.

Hey, since we're just speculating, okay, let's remaster IV in the following manner:

1) Base game: completely untouched, just ported from the PC (graphics), with original console controls. The only thing that might be removed is the SIXAXIS tutorial.

2) New UI and other minor enhancements (quick GPS menu etc.): selectable on/off

3) Whatever additions/removals there may be should come as an optional mission pack which you can install or leave be, plus future addons and user mods on top of that.

That way, if whatever additions would end up spoiling the base game, people like me could just ignore them. Or if some additions would turn out worthwhile, well I might swallow the stupid pointless additions like jetpacks, pets, haircuts, aimbot cops and chrome super cars that would be embedded in the mission pack. No wait, I wouldn't.

Osho, lets go over your first post, shall we?

QU3BD, Swingset Glitch, Dating (Except for the ONE mission you have to take Michelle out) and apartment and hospital interiors can all easily be ignored. Does the game force you to go on dates with Michelle (except First Date), Kate of any of the internet girlfriends? No, so what's the problem? Does the game force you to play QU3BD? No, unless you're really itching to get the achievement. Does the force you to enter apartments or the hospital? Only in certain missions. Once those are done, you have zero reasons to ever look inside them again.

Then you go ahead and state, and I quote:

"I can't fathom how new additions like jet pack, superb customization like San Andreas with gold chains, variety of clothes, haircuts, and a lot of other gameplay enhancements to make the game more fun for those wanting to replay IV with more potential outside of playing with the same old repetitive and boring story and boring content can be seen as a "risk of destroying the game for what it is" or "turn into a completely different game" or "rob the game of its originality that fans admire" etc.. ???"

From what I've read from your posts in this thread, all you want is GTA IV: The San Andreas Remake which, funnily enough, is not what any IV fan wants. Has any IV fan ever cared for a jetpack? No. I've never asked for it and I don't want it. I loved the jetpack in San Andreas but it doesn't belong in IV. And guess what? If people find IV's story to be repetitive and its gameplay to be boring, then they obviously should not be playing IV. And I highly doubt any of this will make players fall in love with an 8 year old game that already wronged them. And changing as much sh*t as you want them to change doesn't even make it a Remaster. sh*t is just a completely different game. We don't care how many fans Rockstar alienated. We do not care about all the removed features from SA. The replay value is amazing or else I, and many others, wouldn't be playing the game 8 years later? Anyways, Rockstar is not gonna take any of these lists into consideration if they ever make a remaster but it's still fun to debate about, yes?

@ Misunderstood

I do realize many things are optional and you may very well argue against their removal for the same reason, but my problem with many "optional stuff" in IV is that they simply suck. Period.

Not fun and have zero replay value in my eyes.

What people are not getting is that remaster brings new opportunities to improve and change the game further.

A better port with more additional ( but optional ) features would make the game more fun and without hurting the game's originality, staying as faithful as the vanilla IV.

Even for better modifications on PC, there should be certain base features implemented from the developers to mod it further.

It'll also extend the lifespan and appeal of IV for the console players as well, who can't mod the game but can take a break in enjoying certain optional stuff in the remaster increasing the chances of replayability.

Of course, TheOtherRyan and many others are fine without additional features but there are also others who might want to see something extra. So, why should people interfere with their recommendations??

In the end, Rockstar will take into consideration what they find appropriate for remaster, but does that mean people should stop giving their wishlist for remaster?

No.

I want to know why Osho thinks the flying rats and QUB3D are out of place in IV and don't make sense for Niko to do, but he's arguing for a jetpack which would also make no sense, narratively. Meanwhile, San Andreas which he loves has twice the minigames and collectibles and all is gravy.

BTW I never understood why some people are so fascinated by jetpacks. Yahtzee Croshaw (sp?) of Zero Punctuation fame in particular used to have a running joke where it seemed that every game with a jetpack magically became super awesome. I tried to get into the mindset when I played Serious Sam BFE and got the jetpack, but in reality I was only like... Um, okay... Not bad I guess?

Now, hoverboards... I could dig that. Not in GTA IV and with its physics though, god no.

Speaking of Serious Sam, the TFE and TSE HD remasters were remasters done right. Well, except the fact that those morons only released them on Steam and not on GOG.

Maybe you need to go back to the first page of the thread then. I'd like to see vehicles become available for purchase aswell as more customising options. Just because I disagree with you on the gym, jetpack etc doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to see additional features myself.

Is Osho just here to Troll?

I'm not sure where the idea of a troll even come from. I've always maintained civil discussions in IV section, keeping my points of view on topic..unlike you and other pro-IV ( should I label you a troll? ) fanatics that jump into every discussion and civil debate, whenever possible, and derail the discussion with name calling and childish remarks simply because some one dared to criticise IV.

What better example can there be than going out of your way and derail the thread to simply name call me so that people who find fun in your useless posts that undermine a person can have some fun bullying them.

Sorry to say, even GTA O section seems far more welcoming, civil and mature than what I find people doing in this section.

Because I frequently ponder that he is here for less than pleasant purposes

May be you and several other pro-IV fans should look yourself in the mirror and examine the posting history in V Section and ponder over them before pointing fingers at any one.

OT:

- Change characters appearance with better look / models.

- If not jetpack, then a lot of things as mentioned and discussed in What were the false/scrapped promises for... thread.

- Remove several stupid mission failure conditions that are more restrictive and limiting in nature and hurt player's freedom. Its a long list to mention here. People can easily google and check out the list of mission conditions for the story online.

- If I'm not wrong Saints Row 1 and 2 had fantastic amount of "common sense" features that R* still stubbornly refuses to consider. I'd like them to take as many features as possible into consideration for IVs remaster.

- Checkpoints.

- Anything that makes the game less boring and less of an empty, ghost world to the players after completing the story.

GTA SA has fantastic randomized activities going on in the world that makes the world as awesome and living, breathing after completion of the story. I'd also like to have a similar feature in SA where CJ gets a call from casino owner whenever he runs in debt, sending a group of mafia to kill CJ randomly assigned by the game. Such kind of features help to make open world a lot more believable than feeling like wandering in some fake movie studio with the same scripted stuff happening over and over again as I experienced in IV a lot that breaks the immersion for me.

With the recent ports of VC and the SA remaster are anything to go by lots of songs are going to get cut from the IV soundtrack.

In my opinion, adding and removing features from a game that change the story or change the way the game is played is making a new game, not a remaster. And for the record, the release of V on PC, XB1, and PS4 was not a remaster, it was the release of Rockstar's true GTA V. The PS3 and XB360 version is a dumbed down version of the real thing.

Think about it in terms of music: does a remastered song have an added verse that wasn't in the original? Or is the chorus slightly different than on the original recording? Remasters are simply a more "polished" version of the original (and a money-grab, but that's beside the point).

GTA IV does not need to be remastered. And if Rockstar does decide to remaster the game, all they should do is enhance the graphics and fix any game-breaking bugs.

Thread is just for fun, we know remasters don't work like it but OP made a question that's not meant to be taken literally.

Honestly, if it were for me, i just would fix some minors gameplay elements (cops teleporting outside cars in car chases, being unable to get inside a car while talking on the phone, bikes flipping back on walls etc) and add locations introduced in EFLC.

Additional changes to TLAD:

Buff Jim, Terry, Clay and Gang War buddies in health and weapon accuracy so that they can stand up to enemies past level 25 of Gang Wars.

Change Jim's AI so that he doesn't drive headfirst into the enemies when you begin to engage them.

Since Clay has an Auto Shotty at max upgrades, make him charge into enemies spamming it non-stop (after getting off the bike, so that he doesn't drive headfirst into enemies like Jim does)

Like GTA V, be able to see your friends hanging around the clubhouse and other places without having to call them.

No, it was a remaster, GTA V is a last gen game.

I wouldn't mind features from V like working car roofs, some cars introduced in V, and generally the animations and the fluidity (for example no load screens for missions). I'd like them to keep the physics and cop behaviour, though. Remastered map would be pretty cool, too.

Even if these won't happen, and won't care if they don't, I hope that they would at least fix the continuity - replace old IV models with new EFLC models so it kind of makes a bit of sense when seeing the same cutscene in a different game, or change the buildings like they change through the trilogy (burned down clubs, blown up crane, Maisonette 9, etc) - and, of course, fix the PC port so it's a bit more stable.

Either way, I'll be throwing money at my screen if a IV remaster does happen.

So have the EFLC Johnny and Luis NPC Models replace the IV equivalents? I'd be down with that.

I wouldn't mind also having some of the Files transfer over like 'dispatch.meta', and 'carvariations.meta'.

Homemade Dynamite

I would like the following in a GTA IV remaster:

- Updated graphics, obviously, but keep the physics the same. Don't dumb them down to what we had in V just to appease fans of that game.

- Character wheel, which would let you choose between Niko, Johnny, and Luis quickly.

- Vehicles from TLAD and TBOGT appearing in the vanilla game and so on. While I do think having the APC in IV would kill the believably of the game, as a cheat it wouldn't hurt.

- Have all the radio stations/songs in one package. For example Vice City FM in IV, and all the songs added in TLAD/TBOGT appear in IV -- but change the frequency so we get a better ratio of when we hear the songs. I swear, it played the new songs in IV 80% of the time after I downloaded the expansions, which really pissed me off.

- Speaking of songs, add new songs to the game. For each version, you'd get new songs that are appropriate for 2008/9.

- New vehicles, new weapons etc.

- This might be stretching it, but since it worked for Bethesda, downloadable console mods. That would add so much more replayability to the game.

They should give GTA IV (the non DLC one) a loop of missions like TBoGT's "drug wars" and TLaD's "gang wars" where Niko will have the opportunity to use his weapons and fighting skills after having finished the missions.

A bigger city would be nice, but NO WILDERNESS OR ANY BULLsh*t! Just 3 bigger islands, with the exact same monuments, I want every street to be identifiable.

Some car and weapon customisation too, but noting too flashy. I want it to stick GTA IV's minimalistic mood. The ability to put silencers on SOME weapons, and change the mag capacity, nothing more. I don't want to see pink guns with 9999 rounds. And for cars, the ability to chose colors (instead of getting random ones), give armor to SOME of the cars (one level only), better engines for some high end/sports cars, and some body modifications. I don't want it to be over the top like $$GTA V ONLINE$$. No pink/chrome adders with green neons and clown nose horns. I am disgusted by how flashy and plastic-y things can look in GTA V sometimes.

Switch to 5 wanted stars instead of 6. abandon the wanted area system and switch to V's field of view system.

More interiors, night clubs, activities.

Annnnd obviously better graphics.

Keep everything else.

Keep:

-EVERYTHING

Add:

-Content from the expansions to the base game;

-New filler characters;

-Character wheel between Niko, Johnny and Luis, Niko is available right from the start of the game, Johnny gets unlocked shortly after and Luis only gets unlocked after beating Three Leaf Clover

Change:

-Animations fluidity;

-Shooting controls(a shoulder swap button is badly needed)

Remove:

-The pigeons, I really don't like'em.

- Fix mixed stations in EFLC so they won't start from the beginning each time you load the game or even start the mission (and the most atrocious thing - when you simply change the car)

Update: fix this s**t in GTA IV as well. Doesn't happen so often as in EFLC but it happens.

And why no wilderness? A countryside is all IV needed to be perfect (that, and at least simple vehicle customization at Brucie's place)

I thought people on this forum like GTA IV? Why do so many want to turn it into GTA V or a completely different game?

GTA IV was a focused effort, unlike the 'everything and a kitchen sink' approach of the 3D games and V.

Asking R* to remaster and enhance something... You know how the SA release on consoles turned out? It's nice to dream but don't run off the cliff. Besides R* already showed how much they care about IV and its characters when they turned The Lost into whatever that was in V/Online.

While I agree with you, I think that's the point, we like GTA IV so we want to see it enhanced at its best. The wishlist that I and many others posted is just that, a wishlist, in reality I know R* won't do much stuff to this game and maybe won't even do anything at all but a simple mention in the newswire for the 10th anniversary and that would be it. I'm gonna be really impressed if they announce they're gonna retouch the game in some aspects, it deserves it, or at least a CG port and enhanced PC port/patch.

I think they do still care about Niko though, they know he's their most popular protagonist. The last thing they posted about IV was a fanart of Niko beating a cop car last year. And there are some decent references/Easter Eggs to him in V.

Okay, I mean there are sensible things like porting the PC assets to console, improving the PC port, touching up the UI or fixing some annoyances (e.g. not being able to enter a vehicle while on the phone), all that makes sense.

Then there are things which I find questionable, like adding more missions or more portions to the city. I know it sounds reasonable, but just more of the same does not make a thing better. You can't repeat the magic ad infinitum. Have too much of a good cake and you'll get sick of it, or if the chef forgot the recipe in the meantime, you'll just get some crap.

And then, people ask for haircuts, pets, vehicle mods and weapons customization... I mean, WHY? It was already annoying enough to change clothes for girlfriends, seriously f*ck that sh*t, why dump even more of the same kitchen sink bollocks into a focused story-driven game? And pets? PETS????!!!!
