Did you like Undead Nightmare?

Believe it or not, I'm actually playing it for the very first time right now. I've been "stuck" to my old PS2 for a lot of years so I ended up buying my PS3 VERY late (like in 2014 or something).

And still, I was lucky enough to find one last copy of the RDR: Game of the Year edition for PS3, the one that has it all (RDR with all the updates and extras and the DLC)... couldn't believe my luck!

It was a blast playing the main game, I really liked it in so many ways... really made me understand why this game won so many awards.

On the DLC, well... so far, it's been great aswell, I already got like 30% of game completion. I've never been interested in zombie games to be honest, and there's a lot of them out there... but this one, even though it's "just" a DLC, it's very nice to play.

I think the whole atmosphere of the zombie apocalypse somehow fits very well with the setting of the game, and it makes the experience that much interesting and creepy.

And I like the way Rockstar used a lot of the characters from the RDR story into this DLC, some as survivors, some as undead. Just brilliant.

Yeah, of course not everything is great... like the fact we can't camp anywhere in the game. But I kinda agree with that, because you wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of nowhere completely surrounded by zombies, right?

And we can only use the Fast Travel from a safe house, not to mention that you HAVE to save a town/settlement if you want to save your game there... and afterwards you have to save that town every 5/6 in-game days... I think the time a town remains "safe" should be bigger, like 20 days or something, or at least accordingly to the number of survivors living in that town. The more survivors it has, the more time it holds the safe status.

But I like it anyway. Don't think I'll ever see anything like that again... Rockstar might try to do some DLC for RDR2, but I really don't see them doing another zombie themed DLC again.

yes i did! i loved EFLC, but i don't think i've ever seen a rockstar story-mode DLC that transforms the entire game world into something completely different like undead nightmare did

I'm playing Undead Nightmare (for the first time now) to get my mind of this current plague that's been going on in the world.

I'm going to do the same in the next few days. Still can't quite get my head round the idea that this pleasant looking down to earth world will be the scene of a zombie apocalypse so I need to prepare myself mentally first . I love that they came up with this idea for the DLC though, totally out of left field.

Just started playing this and I'm SO disappointed. Doing one of the first missions where it says you have to go to Blackwater graveyard and burn the coffins and kill the undead rising from the graves there. But seems there's a glitch, the undead just keep coming and coming with no end. Literally kept killing them for 20 minutes. I looked up and seems like it's a known thing, they don't have heads and I think that's related?

Does anyone know anything about this/have any advice?

Edit: OK so seems like it's a thing where all undead/all peds will spawn with no head and so killing them doesn't "count" causing any mission where you have to kill them to be unfinishable. But seems like just reloading from the last save if this happens fixes it. Hasn't happened again yet so I guess I can live with it.

Anyway apart from that this game is hilarious . I was cracking up at the spooky intro. I love how it has a totally different vibe from the main game, all very tongue in cheek. Genius idea for a DLC.

It is! It did happen again a bunch of times. Also when it's happened if you try to save at a safehouse the screen will just go black instead of saving and you have to restart the game. But since it autosaves after everything important and all you have to do is reload when you notice it wasn't too bad (and it doesn't even matter if you've autosaved while the headless glitch is in effect, reloading removes it again). Worst that happens is having to redo saving a town or clearing a graveyard. Pretty bad that they just allowed this glitch to exist though, you'd think they would've done something about it on what's supposed to be the "game of the year" edition.

I finished the game. I liked that the ending was suitably ridiculous :D. My god that ride from Las Hermanas to Escalera with the music was badass! Best moment in the game and almost as good as when the music kicks in on your first visit to Mexico in RDR. I was riding the unicorn I'd just acquired and wearing the sexy undead hunter outfit I'd just unlocked, epic. Adding in spooky rockabilly/surf rock to the soundtrack was a good move.

It's really good DLC, great complement to the main game. Like they created this amazing world and story and then totally flipped it and did it again with a whole new tone, atmosphere, story and gameplay elements. Glitches aside it's a 10/10.

I'm just not in the slightest bit interested in anything to do with zombies or fantasy fiction type things so I've never actually played Red Dead Nightmare, its just never interested me.

I'm honestly not either, supernatural/fantasy stuff usually turns me off things instantly, but this works for me because it's such a great twist on the main game. It's all very playful and tongue in cheek, like a 50's horror movie vibe. The new missions and gameplay features are a lot of fun, clearing towns and graveyards of the undead, cool new weapons like the torch, blunderbuss and phosphorus coated fire bullets, and multiple other new features. Totally different atmosphere with an eerie mist and other effects, some extra spooky music, and never feeling safe because there's always undead humans and animals around. It's just cool to see the characters and world in a totally different context. It's short as well, I took it quite slowly but completed it to 100% in under 10 hours, I think most people take less time than that and just the main stuff would only take a few. Well worth a look imo, I was hooked from the intro.

Are you on Xbox? Because this glitch never happened to me on PS3

Yeah Xbox 360. From what I've seen when googling about it it's an issue on all platforms including Xbox One and PS3. Might depend on the edition (I'm playing the Game of the Year edition for example), what updates have been done or not done or you might just be lucky. My brother bought it as DLC when it first came out and it didn't have the glitch so idk. They know about it but have opted to do nothing even though they're still selling the game, pretty bad.

Yes i do love this DLC, i think it's a well made and enjoyable DLC just like the main game, i wish RDR2 got some sort of halloween themed DLC instead of just masks and sh*t in online

I wish I didn't play that dumbass sasquatch mission in GTA V before I played the original mission it parodied in this lmao. It's funny anyway with "you eat babies" and just the fact that Rockstar decided to put sasquatch in a game for real, but it did lessen the sad/emotional side of it having the V version in mind. I can't decide whether it's best to do what he asks or not at the end.

Replaying this I came across some cool random events I hadn't before. One where there's a woman outside a cabin in Tall Trees (I think it can happen in any cabin in the countryside though) fighting off a couple of zombies, after you kill them for her she says "whatever you do don't go in there" so of course I immediately opened the door....there was a very scary surprise inside. Also when I'd seen a dude sitting at camp eating what is obviously human meat inviting me to sit with him I never did it before, just assumed he'd attack and the only option is killing/robbing him. But I did it this time and holy sh*t, John picks up a bone and starts eating! And then vomits. Meanwhile the dude keeps telling you about how his dad was a butcher and taught him all about different cuts of meat lol. You can also sit with a dude in a similar set up only he's holding a skull, he proceeds talk to it very creepily and either kiss or nibble it, not sure which. And I've now witnessed people crying over a dead loved one before shooting themselves in the head (a variation on the random event where the dead one then becomes undead and attacks them). Some disturbing stuff in this game.

i decided to play this dlc again after a while. and i had mixed thoughts. i mostly loved it. trying to see how long i can survive against the zombies is fun. but the main problem i have is playing as zombie john. i had already beat the story so im stuck with this zombie. i know a lot of people hated playing as jack after the main story. but its nothing compared to playing as zj. first off he is lopsided. which is hard to get used to. then he does not talk. only growl which is super annoying. and to put the icing on the cake. humans are perfectly fine with him. i was defending towns and walking up to the humans and they did not care. and you still get random events with people asking for help. its funny but stupid. i would rather just keep john at the end. i know some people probably liked being a zombie. but i hate it. the whole point of zombie games is to avoid becoming one. and trying to survive. but instead you already are one and the other zombies still try to kill you.

Even though I liked the twist of him ending up as a zombie I also hate playing as zombie John. It sucks to not hear comments from him and I particularly dislike how his random zombie growls can make you think there's another zombie next to you when there isn't. I guess it's supposed to be that he's famous/known to everyone in the towns from when he saved them before so they know he's safe, so people treating him the same doesn't bother me so much, but just actually playing as him does.

I like to always complete everything to 100% before the final mission and then just start a new game afterwards. It's a very short game so not much problem to start again, I prefer to so I can play the missions again anyway (since there's no option to replay them). And I also keep an extra save from before the final mission that I can load up to mess around as regular John whenever I want.

I've just replayed this again and I have to say it's very dumb how long it takes to find the legendary creatures (four horses of the apocalypse, unicorn and chupacabra). Like, they should've taken into account how long the rest of the game is and adjusted how often they appear accordingly. I know exactly when and where to look for them but it still takes up literally hours of a game that I can complete to 100% in less than 10 hours, and that's just silly.

Still fun! But I wish it would let me do stuff earlier (eg not put 4 of the 6 creatures you have to find only in Mexico) so I could earn the cool outfits and have access to new weapons/features like boom bait or holy water or the daily ammo refill more than 1 or 2 missions before the end of the game.

Generally, I dislike horror movies and games, but since Undead Nightmare is based on RDR, I had to try it. And I love it so far! Well, not my favorite story but I'm glad I tried it.

Is it just me, or map in pause menu is very low quality when compared to regular RDR?

I think it's just the different colours/darker shading that make it less clear looking, the basics of it are the same. I think they actually added a couple of extra paths to the Undead Nightmare map to help with navigation (for example there's one showing the route up to Torquemada which isn't present in RDR). Probably helps that once I was playing UN I was already very familiar with the map and layout from RDR but I find it fine.

I'm pretty sure the resolution is lower, as the map looks more pixelated. I play on Xbox 360, so I cannot present clear screenshots sadly.
