Uncle Sikee Atric
Myself? I cannot afford to donate money to charity, so instead I donate blood components as a platelet donor (the blood clotting agents) and I do that every 28 days. I have to sit with the needle in my arm for about 90 minutes while a cell separator filters the necessary platelets from my blood, and then returns the filtered blood back to me. Since my platelets are single source, the NHS Blood Service split one donation into 2 and then DNA crossmatch it so it can be used to help patients with Leukaemia and other blood related infections. Platelets cannot be stored for more than 7 days as the preservation freezing causes them to clot. My last donation was number 124 and I got a text message last week to tell me my donation had been issued to Leicester Royal Infirmary, about 120 miles away. ----------------- So now you know what I do for charity, what do you all do? DarkSavageDeathlyCloud
honestly i do not donate....nothing personal, but i do not even got a real job, let alone that i am settled for real. i thus do not feel i can not miss anything money-wise. as for donating blood, i am not even allowed to do that by law. might donate when i am dead...to charity involving animals...no way i am giving it to charity for humans. Blue
If it counts, I went twice to different supermarkets for food collecting (of course, it's redirected for the charity event in question). Hdxt_Hardluck

Skeever
Not exactly a fan of carrying coins around, so I usually put any received from transactions in a donation box, if it's a good cause. Other than that and church offerings, I don't believe I've made a sizeable donation to any charities, organizations or democratic socialists recently. The Dedito Gae
^I hope you know i was just joking with that post. I guess my last good deed was giving a bunch of clothes to a homeless jerk (a guy that i barely knew and loved to guilt trip me, long story) And i mean good clothes, actual good clothes, they weren't my style but they were good though. I stopped giving money to kids on the street because i know for a fact that it just goes to the lazy parents, i help them in other ways if possible. X S
I've got a more contentious question: Do you give money to panhandlers, and why or why not?
018361
Sometimes we donate our unneeded clothes into special bins that they place around town for people to donate to. And every so often we give a homeless person a few dollars if that counts. One thing I want to say is thank you to people like you OP. Because my mother has a rare disease called ITP or Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic purpura where her immune system attacks her blood platelets. Honestly, even though she's had it for only a short while there have been times when she could have died from it. She found out she had it when her period wouldn't stop. So she just bled for a long time until she had to go to the hospital. I remember she told me that the doctor said if she didn't go there that night we likely would have found her dead in the morning. Anyway, it was donated blood, blood cells, platelets, and especially the people who donated it that saved her life. Uncle Sikee Atric
Uncle Sikee Atric
I've got a more contentious question: Do you give money to panhandlers, and why or why not? Personally I don't.... What are they going to do with the money? I cannot afford it. I know how much the blood service needs to charge hospitals per pack of donated platelets, at a not for profit price! It's far more than a few pounds of loose change from my pocket. X S
X S
Same here, but mostly because a majority of the ones I come across every day are junkies. They do their "runs" in a particular traffic stop every so often saving up for their next fix. It's sad, and I refuse to contribute, but I see people give them money all the time. I do donate old clothing and items to the Disabled Veterans Administration, though. It's the least I can do, and I wish I could do more for them. Crazyeighties
I help get musical instruments in to the hands of kids and young adults who have cancer and other illnesses that could kill them, I also give 2 to 3 weeks a year at a camp for kids with cancer, the same camp I went to as a kid (camp wapiayapi) it translates into "Healing" bloatedsack

Majestic81
I dont see why people should reveal what they do for charity. Sounds like they are just using it to get special attention. Who gives a f*ck if you donate blood and sit for 90 minutes with a needle in your arm? If you like to help people in need then I think that should be between you and them. In your mind you are doing it for the right reasons and that should be enough. I dont believe in bragging about sh*t like that especially when no one asks you about it. paperbagdude
I used to buy a sh*t ton of silicone wristbands with the profit going directly to a foundation dedicated to children with cancer. A couple in my town that lost their 7 year old son to cancer some years back are together with some of their friend the ones that leads this campaign. Just 5 days ago, they made a huge open-air concert with the profit from the ticket sale going directly to the foundation. I wish I could've attended it, but the ticket was honestly too expensive and my wallet too light.
