When do you think GTA Online will officially die?

To me, that suggests there will be a period of time where we have no online variant of GTA in our lives.

I'm going to say updates will stop after updates for the next big game start. As for shutdown?. Possibly never.

I think it will never die. Players will just move onto the next installment. I dont know much about the whole server situation but since there are no dedicated servers does it even cost R anything to keep us going? Especially LG, no updates, no patches or maintenance and they are still making money off LG cash card sales.

GTA Online in Los Santos, they might give us a final update and an actual ending with closing credits then continue doing whatever in free roam for x amount of time. Just like story mode in quite a few games. Then there might be a different Online with GTA VI.

You ask this question like Online is a big deal. If online dies, we still got SP, private RP/Clan servers and open MultiFive (FiveM reboot) player owned servers which are really starting to take off now. I actually think that once Online goes down, things will start to get intersting. Once Rockstar's rage & hard on for the modding community will go limp, maybe then we'll be able reach a fun SAMP level of GTA V MP, where the playerbase decides what they want and what to implement, not the publisher.

 

This is what I'm talking about, private multiplayer servers you can customize with scripts, rage plugins and other mods, whatever your poison is, make it happen and play with your buddies, something we're doing right now :

It won't die for another good while it's only a few years old and R* intend to still make DLC. I think it will be a long time yet until Online dies.

It's not dying anytime soon and the updates since heists have been better than anything pre-heists.

 

Gta VI won't be out till line 2018-2020 so there's allot of time and content that can be added to GtaOnline.

well all online games have a lifespan

and it depends on a lot of things when i lifespan comes to an end

• Profit ..how much money does the game bring in after the initial sale of the disc or download
• Playerbase..are people playing it and spending money to buy dlc items or Like in GTA online buying in game cash
• the financial stability of the company that owns the game
• the date the next title will be released ........the company looks at will it be worth the cost to keep its fan base to keep the game up and running until then

Rockstar has hit upon a great game and play style with its sandbox approach that has something for everyone and keeps us from having to play the same way every time we log in

 

My best guess would be a ending time will come about 2 yrs after we see GTA-6 hit the store shelves

This thread isn't unique. But even if it was , the responses that are in here are only natural , it is a grand theft auto forum , so people will often defend the game no matter what. Some people are saying that it will die "when gta 6 comes out" but i don't know about the west , but here gta online is already dead. It just gets beaten out by games like league of legends , final fantasy online , hearthstone , overwatch etc. Because those games actually have some kind of incentive to make you want to come back and play. Normally i wouldn't compare other games to those , but i get the impression that rockstar are trying to make gta online a similar type of game , where there is a community and players keep coming back etc.

 

This is why i question what rockstar thinks will keep players coming back. When i first heard of gta online , and what rockstar where saying about it , i presumed that they were trying to make it some kind of psudeo mmo. But they haven't done that. Instead they keep adding updates that are not increasing the length of the game , they are all just novelty things. What is the reason to keep coming back to gta online ? Because i am not sure. Is it to get the best cars ? Because if it is , most of those have been hacked in , and even if you do get them legally there is not much you can do with them. Just drive them around the same city over and over.

I struggle to understand why there seem to be so many people in this GTA forum who seem to hate playing GTA!

 

I'm not saying that all comments should be positive - everyone has stuff that they do and don't like about the game, but for f*ck sake people, if you just fundamentally don't like the game anymore then why not just stop playing it, trade it in and stop hanging around on the forum - it's just weird!
