DarkSavageDeathlyCloud
I don't think there is a thread about this yet, so i just decided i might start one. I know we got a thread about household pets, but i'm thinking more about animals we adore, yet people can not own because they are not household i personally kinda like harp seal pups,...i know those things are meaner then they look, especially when they get older, but yea... those creatures looks really fluffy and cute though if you ask me Niobium, Voodoo, 018361 and 9 others

Abel.
I love all animals though, probably love them more than people. "Liked" for the cats, unliked for this. We're all very fond of you Kirst but I find this idea profoundly dangerous, and disturbingly prevalent today. There's a dodgy undercurrent of animal/idol worship in our society which I would hope to have died out generations before our time. Cruelty to animals is horrid, and I do like animals, but it's all superficial. I can't develop a cerebral relationship with an animal, nor can anyone really. I shudder when people say they like animals more than humans because there are parts of the world where certain groups of people are placed on a lower plane than animals, and such thinking has led to some of history's worst atrocities. People love to talk about how "advanced" apes are and how "cute" pigs are, but being deemed the progeny of such beasts will always be a grave insult. I have a soft spot for the North American grey wolf: They are such majestic and noble creatures, possessing no delusions of grandeur. I hate it when people anthropomorphise them, same goes for all animals (except perhaps creatures with a high level of domestication through breeding, though even then I feel that there must be a concrete awareness that they are not humans). We're all very fond of you Kirst but I find this idea profoundly dangerous, and disturbingly prevalent today. Uh...not sure what you're implying here, seems a little serious for topic about our favourite animals. My cats are my family, many other people treat their pets the same, so yes I love them more than most other humans, because no one loves people for the sake of it just because we're the same species. Animal abuse is abhorrent, but cultures between people and animals in other parts of the world you mention isn't relevant to me, and doesn't mean I can't love my cats. Really not sure what you mean about "grave insults" either... DarkSavageDeathlyCloud, Tacymist, Member's Only and 3 others

Really not sure what you mean about "grave insults" either... Not directed at you at all Kirst, but if someone calls me the "son of apes and pigs", I won't be happy. It's an insult exactly because humans are inherently disposed to prioritising humans. Nothing to do with you at all, call it pub-induced projection. It's great that you love your cats, I'm sure they love you. I had pets as a kid and they were great, I was obviously fond of them. My philosophy probably does come off as cold now I'll grant you. Cats are great creatures as well. I just don't like the idea of putting animals above humans. Again, I liked my pets as a kid, but I would never put an animal life above a human life, even if the animal was a companion I'd had for years. Obvious exception is if the human is some scumbag child rapist or something. Edited June 23, 2016 by Failure Kirsty
sreyazsec
Birds. Birds are my favourite animal. Grew up with them, my Great Grandpah had an aviary where he kept quails etc, I had five budgies throughout the years. I feel the same as Kirsty, I love all animals (I'm a bit iffy on baboons though, they are mean spirited). I even have a soft spot for bugs. The whole loving animals more than humans isn't really strange. Again, I feel quite similar. Y'know animals are like babies, pure. They don't have any hate in them or any sadistic nature, they're as innocent as you can get. It seems natural to care more for the things that need a little more help than we human adults do. (Please no-one take that the wrong way, I do care for the suffering of humans, it's just more intense for me when it involves children or animals). DarkSavageDeathlyCloud
i simply find animals nicer to be with in general because, since i am at the top of the food chain, they are generally no threat to me, which is comforting to me also in general "understanding" animals is more obvious....with humans you never really seem to know what they are up to....might just be my own personal problem, i ain't the most social person back to the favorite animal thing though...an other cute one: it's so sweet and yellow.....and tiny....and it's behavior might even indicate the need for a hug and it says "piep" sreyazsec, Menstrual Deranged and Kirsty

I actually just recently discovered a youtube channel about a man and his pet fox, which I didn't even know was legal. The Dedito Gae
Everyone loves foxes all the sudden but they sound like rapists, you never heard one? I used to live in the countryside and at first i thought someone was messing with me but no, they told it was just foxes making weirdly sexually aggresive noises. This is bullsh*t. Static
Everyone loves foxes all the sudden but they sound like rapists, you never heard one? I used to live in the countryside and at first i thought someone was messing with me but no, they told it was just foxes making weirdly sexually aggresive noises. I came within 10 feet of some kinda fox on a unlit country backroad once. We stared at each for a good 10 mins before I mustard up the courage to walk by, we stuck to opposite sides of the road and stared at each other as crossed paths, and then it let out a blood curdling scream that i can only relate to that of a banshee scream. Needless to say, I high-tailed it outta there with the quickness. Still love em tho. It's kinda hard to pick a favorite animal, but I would say it's a toss up between Red Pandas and Komodo Dragons. I mean just look at 'em both. f*ckin adorable. Edited June 24, 2016 by Static The Dedito Gae and Menstrual Deranged

bloatedsack
The platypus. It's one of only two members of the order monotremata. It lays eggs! But it's a mammal! It's got poisonous spines! It's got the ability to sense electromagnetic fields with it's f*cking bill! THATS RIGHT IT"S GOT A f*ckING BILL! A f*ckING DUCK BILL! It's got double coned eyes! So many different ways to refer to a plurality of platypus! And if you've got a group of 'em, you call it a paddle! A paddle of platypuses! And the coup d'grace of platypi f*cking awesomeness: It has no teats. None. That f*cking thing just leaks milk into it's fur! f*ck yeah! I owe my love of the platypus to Mark Trail, who featured it in a Sunday comic in probably 1989 and started a long running, and now long dead in-joke in my circle of nerds (at the time). Seriously, this thing could f*ck up your liger with it's poison spurs and that's after you pluck out it's f*cking eyeballs because motherf*cker detects your sh*t through f*cking electromagnetic ESP and sh*t.
