Crazyeighties
So on Tuesday June 21, 2016 I almost died I had an adverse reaction to a prescription medication I have been on for 8 years. I stopped breathing twice, my mom found me passed out in the living room. So here goes but first let me say Sorry I have not been too active recently with the group I've been dealing with a lot of serious health problems and haven't had the energy to surf the forums. Tuesday was the scariest of day any other, I stopped breathing thank God mom found me, thank God I did not decide to stop and see the movie when I was planning. Thank God for the trained professionals in emergency and medical services, you many not like them but do me a favor thank a Cop, a Fire Fighter, an EMT, a doctor If it were not for the quick heroic actions taken I would be on a cold slab with a toe tag, another statistic. So here's to the men and women putting their life on the line to save others. The true superheroes. Also be aware of your on medications and of your not feeling right. So here's to the people that care to put their life at risk here's to the people that dedicate their life to saving others! I meant that it was most likely that his medicine might have got expired because its very unlikely that something such would happen if he is taking those pills from last 8 years. May be expired or change of manufacturer.
Voodoo
Glad you're OK. Opioids like Fentanyl do not generally become hazardous when they expire. They may lose potency but that would take a very long time. Self-administered Fentanyl is usually prescribed in transdermal patches to reduce the risk of overdose or abuse since it's so strong. They're similar to nicotine patches. I suppose you could be prescribed the tablet form if your tolerance for opioids has built up over time. Menstrual Deranged
That is very scary. It's a very good thing your mom found you when she did. Had they recently increased your dose of Fentanyl or something? It's kind of uncommon for it to cause chest wall rigidity in non-pediatric patients (I'm not sure how old you are), but not unheard of and that can lead to apnea like you had. I give it to babies all the time at work and if the dose was recently increased or the drug is pushed through the IV just a little too fast, it's not uncommon for them to stop breathing on me. I hope that you have a good pain management service helping you to keep your pain and discomfort under control. If not, you should ask your doc for a referral! I am a cock gobbler and I love to gobble cocks! Voodoo

I am a cock gobbler and I love to gobble cocks! no I've been on this doseage for a while now, from the talk my GP and I had (along with my pain team who are the best doctors in the world) it was partly caused by the heat, the patch being in direct sunlight. It was 100+ in the city I did not know fentanyl was approved for babies. I guess you learn something every day. I'm going to go up to the fire house where the medics are and set up a meeting with the cops and medics to thank them I can't even think of something to get them as a little thank you, you know what I mean? I am not aware of fentynal being in tablet forum it could very well be but as I understand it's either a patch or IV. Yeah sorry about your condition and all mate but I'm not thanking a cop for sh*t. that's your progitive I'm just saying if it were not for these people who are obviously genuinely good people otherwise they would have let me die. Voodoo
That's what I was thinking. Tablets would usually be prescribed to help control breakthrough pain for patients already on a time release delivery like the patches. It can be really dangerous because opioids naturally suppress the systems that control breathing and Fentanyl is really strong. There's a fine line between the therapeutic effect and OD. Just be careful.

Just be careful. I'm prescribed 400mg a day Tramadol (have facet joint disease. Really can be a fine line. Expired are just there for the pharmaceutical company to influence you dispose of them (especially as they're controlled substance here in UK anyway.) will only lose potency over years not harmful anyway. I'm glad you're well. Always keep track. I can have 12 (50mg) in 24 hours sometimes. But built up tolerance I think.. But yeah, thankful to the higher power, wasn't your time. Saggy
Lol comparing fentanyl to tramadol is like talking about a trip to the grocery store versus a trip to the moon. Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine. There's a fentanyl analog being sold on the streets in the US right now causing a lot of respiratory failure, even in heavy addicts, due to the huge potency of the drug. Then because they're analogs and vary slightly, the current blockers we have for them don't work, so Narcanne is ineffective. When my mom OD'd and the EMTs loaded her up I had to stay behind to speak with the police and overhead them discussing the last night's baseball game. They're not all angels some are just doing a job Crazyeighties 1 QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration! I've seen marijuana salve make skin cancer on a friend, shrink an go into remission. Amazing stuff Thank you, sorry to hear you've had experience with opiates they are unfortunately a necessary evil for people that have severe health issues Actually I've been considering talking to the doctor for quite some time now about Cbd products with them now being legal on the state level in Colorado for Rec use and have been legal medically for a while now this experience has made me more seriously consider the switch not only for the pain issues but to see if it might stop the growth of a mass in my pelvis (witch I just found out about about a month ago now) it's nice to know that these pain issues have a valid reason and it's not caused by use of opiates it's rare but it happens where these meds cause pain I have to make an appointment with surgery this week and will likely meet with my GP at the same time. Pain sucks I'm almost ashamed that this even happened. I had some bitch accuse me of being an addict yesterday. Not knowing me on a personal level it makes me angry that people that don't listen or make assumptions about someone they have never met but it's the internet so I guess some people are bound to be like that Edited June 27, 2016 by Crazyeighties

May be expired or change of manufacturer. He,s been taking the medication for 8 years, He wasn't saying he had the medication for 8 years before he decided to use it. Fentanyl doesn't come in a pill form, they come in a patch, lolipop and a coughdrop type the most common method for those using it for chronic non-cancer pain wear a patch where the medication is absorbed into the skin over the course of 3 days. The patch relies on the heat from your body to get into your system and if you do something that applies direct heat the medication will be absorbed into your system within hours instead of the course of 3 days which will lead to an overdose if you aren't careful. OT: I also take Fentanyl for my pain as well and i had a close call myself with one of these patches some how the patch the punctured and the liquid inside started to ooze out i didn't realize it but after a while i started feeling like i was really, really high but i was lucky enough it didn't knock me out before i was able to realize what was going on and i was able to pull the patch off before getting all of the medication. For those of you who don't realize how strong Fentanyl is, it's 100 times stronger then Morphine so just think of someone just taking a half a bottle of morphine pills all at once that is how strong this medication is and how dangerous it is. Glad you're okay, Just remember to double check your patch before you put it on that it's not busted and place it somewhere, where you're not likely to get direct heat. My state has recently voted to allow for medical use of marijuana which will allow me to change from the fentanyl to a difference pain medication along with the marijuna but it'll be at least a year or so before we'll see any dispenser witin the state so for the time being you'll have to go out of state to get it Edited June 28, 2016 by AiraCobra
