Super Shizuku Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 (edited) Before I got to replay some missions in GTA VC for a day, I just watched "The Job" mission walkthrough. Then a see a comment stated that he's by far the most useless character R* ever created, that comment made me laughed so hard because it's funny for me after beating a hard mission like "The Driver", Tommy drove the getaway taxi eventually since Hilary sacrificed himself right after the robbers got out from the door. Like the OP mentioned, Tommy did all the driving to the bank, which contradicts the need for a getaway driver. Hell, Tommy didn't need to recruit a driver, Tommy just needed to recruit some guy willing to stand in front of a bullet for him. Legomanarthur Posted June 22, 2016 Share Posted June 22, 2016 I agree with the fact that this guy was just useless, he's not even doing his job apart from driving the taxi around which result in his supposed death; yeah because in my game, he dies without even taking a bullet. What Rockstar should've done in my opinion is that the escape should've been a car chase where Tommy would've shoot the police coming after them with a "car damage" bar (something like Supply & Demand), that would've made the mission far more entertaining for me, and more difficult as well. That would've been great, a lot like Reuniting The Families in SA. They could even have kept Hilary's death in there and done something like the shootout in where the driver gets killed during the getaway and they have to shoot it out in the street. GTAKid667 Posted June 23, 2016 Share Posted June 23, 2016 The only use that Hilary did serve during 'The Job' is that he did successfully get the Taxi outside of the bank for the others to use as a getaway vehicle, even though he didn't survive to drive it away. Other than that I'd agree that he was a largely useless character who didn't add anything at all to the game. I think it would have been better had he appeared in a few more missions or died later on in the mission after a car chase or something similar as mentioned above where he will have had the opportunity to prove he has a purpose, but all he really did was lose a race against the player no matter how tedious it was and then die the moment they leave the bank. Posted June 23, 2016 Share Posted June 23, 2016 I dont hate him,besides,i loved him because he made me laughing very much because of he being a big nerd without life I laughed very much when we left the Malibu after the cutscene of the mission "The Job" and Tommy have to drive and he says "A passenger,Great!Wait i"ll tell the group (nerd group certnaily) about this!" I laughed very much because he dont use to be a passenger "cause he use to be the driver,the best driver in Vice City (before Tommy just beat him easly) I stayed very sad when he dies cause he could give us missions and enter in some of another missions! About his colaboration in the Bank Robbery,well,he didnt needed to be there,Tommy just needed to park the car at the front of the bank,simply that! He literally does NOTHING, Tommy drives the Taxi to the Bank, and Tommy drives the getaway vehicle. I found him funny in my first playthrough. But in my latest playthrough, I can understand why some people hate him. "The Driver" mission itself proves it. It's been almost a year since the last time I beat that mission, took me like 10 tries to beat that mission. But once I get used beating that mission, 2 tries is enough. Damn, I feel sorry to people who were arduously beating this mission only to figure out that Hilary would be killed that easily and sooner just like that.
