Skate 3

I feel like if EA took the map of Skate 1 (with some updates), the physics of Skate 2 (also with some updates because f*ck walking and no complies in that game) combined with the customizability of Skate 3 (ie logos, designs, parks, object droppers etc) and slapped in updated characters, brands, clothes and maybe some newer maps based on real skate spots; I know the Skate games have had a few spots based on IRL places ie 3rd and Army, Hubba hideout etc but the TH games have had f*cking everything; Southbank, Brooklyn Banks, Carlsbad etc so those in Skate 3 would be dope.

 

And as Daz mentioned above the tricks could use some work; Frontside flips look nothing like frontside flips, there's no impossibles in the game (closest thing is 3shuvs), the no comply animation is pretty gimpy but most of all I would f*cking love some proper actual transition skating and being able to skate a mini ramp without flying 20ft out and actually being able to do tricks on the coping without having to go at a snails pace. I mean yeah you can skate mini ramps but its a f*cking struggle and half of the tricks dont even exist; no rock to fakies or rock n rolls, fs disasters are "fs lipslide", you can sort of do a gimped crailslide by doing a tailslide and grabbing but its dumb, no noseblunt grab ins, no sweepers or any tricks like that, it's a f*cking Bodyjar not a Backside 180 Nosegrab to Bs Tail. I mean none of that matters in the long run but to those of us who actually do Skate it's kinda whack for a whole bunch of tricks to be missed out. Also proper wallrides pls.

 

But yeah with Blackbox shut down I doubt we'll ever get S4 and even if we did I think it'd be different to S1/S2/S3; as said in the first paragraph I think a blend of the previous games would be dope and please the entire Skate fanbase but the profits of a Skate game compared to a generic yearly release like Fifa probably isn't worth the investment. Skate 3 Global Total as of 26th Nov 2016 (units): 1.98million whereas Fifa 10 sold 4.5 million in the first two months after launch so it's easy to see why they just rehash the same old sh*te instead of you know making an actual effort.

Totally agree there, forgot about ramp skating, it is pretty horrible. There should have been dedicated command button and hold it then quick select ramp mode so it knows not to be a prick about it.

 

I also think it might be a better idea to add a dedicated grind or stall button. Still using the sticks to dictate the trick, but especially in skate 3, I often don't grind or completely miss a rail when trying to grind, and grind sh*t when I simply just need to get the f*ck out of the way. Not having a drop-in feature and proper rock fakies as mentioned is ridiculous. Pretty much base beginner sh*t on ramps don't even exist. If only the button for stalls was like the handplants, sh*t would be piss easy.

 

I know EA knows a lot of people want it, the most they would ever do is re-release the games in a port. But I like to think they just might attempt another. Or at least another company make an attempt at it. It took us so long to get a realistic skating game, and now it's f*cked off for good. Which sucks arse.

 

I would take a HD remake of Thrasher at this point. Anything that is even remotely usable as a skating game with realistic physics.

Sadly Skate3 has still only sold around 5 million copies on both platforms. For an EA game, that's a marked failure (crazy, I know). And bearing in mind that's like double what the previous 2 games sold combined... you would have thought it would be a no-brainer to make another.

 

They're absolutely crazy to not make 4. There's literally nothing worth playing on current consoles (skating games) and with the improvements in controllers for the PS4 and Xbone, you could really take advantage of increased sensitivity in hardcore physics mode.

 

I'm still crossing my fingers that another will appear eventually but I really doubt it at this point.

Well the issue was they shat out 2 and 3 pretty quickly, within a year or so of eachother. Obviously 3 was a pile of sh*t and doomed to fail on it's arse as they were trying to cash in. But often things people once thought sucked get a cult following later on and get redeemed. I know a lot of people keep shouting for a new skate. So if not EA, someone else may step up I hope. Even if it is a basic indy game.

I actually really like Skate 3. I know it's the worst of the three in many ways, but the move list allows you to do a whole lot more than just riding and grinding. The hippy jump and the no-comply/boneless (while definitely a bit gimpy) opened up SO MANY possibilities for me.

Eventhough Skate 2 gets praised as the best, the third game is a really fun and enjoyable game aswel.

It's a shame we haven't seen a good, 'realistic' and quite deep/good feeling skating game on this generation of consoles and PC.

There's alot the game/franchise could improve on. And yes, as Daz said there's so much possibility for a new game or franchise in the spirit of skate!

Skate 2 was the best, i remember my birthday i had to choose between getting skate 2 or cod and i choosed skate. I played literally all the tony hawk games , i wished they followed skates style of gameplay. Anyways skate 2 i feel was the best of the 3 , i even bought the rob dyrdek fantasy factory dlc lol we need another skate game

Still have this on my old ps3, wish I could play it on my ps4 though. I enjoyed it, albeit I can't compare it to other titles since it was the first skateboarding game I touched since the first 2 Tony Hawk Pro Skater's back on N64.

Unless Blackbox is being restarted I'd be skeptical and hope we don't end up with an abomination like when Robomodo made THPS5.

Well, it could be Blackbox in all but name. There's simply no way of telling:

 

1) Whether or not this actually means anything more than an EA guy has the power to mobilise 20000+ people with 7 characters

2) Whether or not any of the Blackbox team are returning under a new company name to create the game, if indeed it is actually happening

C) There is no 3.

 

At this point it's a single tweet with no information. Is it a beacon of hope in a time when skateboarding games have been all but abandoned? Or is it just a masterstroke of trolling by an ugly fat-headed man with a horrible sense of humour?

 

Only time will tell. But right now, there's no point being pessimistic when there's absolutely no information at hand.
