Im Ricky I Win
Sorry mods if this has been a discussion before but I haven't found anything, does anyone still hop on skate 3 anyore? I've heard it was going to be backwards compatible on xb1 soon and am very excited.
Fuzzknuckles
I tried to play Skate 3 on PS3 a week or so ago and the last firmware update appears to have killed it, it was nearly unplayable. I just wish EA would pull their fingers out and do a new one. chronic lumbago and Daz 2 Signatures are dumb anyway.
*MURDOC*
I was playing it today on PS3 actually. I got so many friend requests when I got featured on their front page, I went on one day and had a ridiculous amount of board sales and like 30 friend requests. chronic lumbago
I wonder why they stopped working or didnt even work on skate 4. I'm not sure about the sales but I think the sales got better with each game. Gameplay certainly did. Skate 3 was miles ahead of skate1 in terms of gameplay, tricks, map and online features and still, the first skate had it's own flavour and was fun to return here and then. But then, out of nothing, they dropped the ball. Or did I miss something? They took the crown from (this is gonna hurt) Tony Hawk and I really, really hope this is not over yet. *MURDOC*
Well, Black Box was dismantled, and there's a pseudosequel currently being funded. I hope it turns out. There are also rumours of an actual EA one too, but nothing has been confirmed as far as I know. Sombra
slap an updated skate 3 gameplay with some new tricks (ie proper bs/fs bigspins, decent no comply animations, proper mini ramp skating), updated skaters/board companies, couple new maps and some rehashed old classic ones and theyd have a best seller. *MURDOC*
Yeah, the gameplay is pretty close to what I feel is perfect, game just needs an overall refresh. I've heard a rumour that there will be a 4th, as an XB1 exclusive. If that happened, I would stab a bitch. Sir Michael
Skate 3 was fun, but I always felt like the city lacked that natural essence that San Van had in Skate 1 and 2. The Rec Center in the 1st game was such an amazing spot, then there's bombing the hills all the way to downtown, which was just grinding heaven. Skate 2's Dam was a mega ramp on drugs, plus the port had some good spots for some lines. I sure hope a new Skate game comes around, no other skateboard game can compete with the flick-it system imo. *MURDOC*

PoeticWhisper
It's not backwards yet. If you bought it on the marketplace, when it becomes compatible it'll show up in your "my games and apps" page ready to download. It's that simple.

Im Ricky I Win
I know S3 is backwards compatible on XB1 but what if I originally bought it on the 360 marketplace? Will that still work? There's one thing that sucks about the digital copy is that version is an unpatched version and can't play with people on the disc version for some odd reason. Also skate 3 is not BC yet, they just reannounced it again, it was originally put on the BC list last year around November I believe but never heard anything again until recent. Sombra
Gameplay wise I'd say Skate 3 was pretty solid but as someone who skates a bunch of things bugged me/I'd like to see: Can we have proper wallrides and no complies please I mean come on Ray Barbee was doing them in the f*cking 80s and you still couldn't make a decent animation for them. Wallies and polejams would be a cool trick to have aswell Proper mini ramp/transition skating such as fs/bs disasters and actually skating transitions as a ramp as opposed to having to skate it like a ledge. Put some "classic" real life spots in the game - plenty of people made remakes but throw some real life ones in there; Southbank, EMB, J-Kwon, Macba, etc. A "proper" realistic mode - I liked Skate 3's but it'd be cool to have little things like boards wearing down/snapping, wheelbite, speed wobbles, bailing when you land on a transition/ramp wrong etc. May be annoying to some but I'd enjoy it. That f*cking 540 on flat bug remove that. The filming mode being updated/fixed- iirc you'd have to glitch the game to get a wider field of view with the filming mode, and it always had that weird zoom out at the end. *MURDOC* and Fuzzknuckles 2 join the 11%

What I really want is 3's move list with the original's graphics and atmosphere. The first game is infuriating because you can't get off the board, but visually, it dumps all over the sequels from a great height. Not sure I want snapping, but I do like how the board graphics get worn over time. If they put that other realistic stuff in, I think it'd turn a lot of people off the game. While the games have done a great job at being the most realistic skate games out there, there's also a balance needed in terms of it being realistic, but also fun and easy to enjoy just skating around. One of the things that made the series eventually die was a lack of sales due to it being such a niche market (arguably) so anything that removes the player's ability to have a vicarious experience of being a world-class skater could seriously impact on the accessibility for those that don't skate in real life, or that just want to easily nail some moves and get some good footage. Sombra 1 Signatures are dumb anyway.
Sombra
I don't mean have only realistic mode, but in the same way S3 had 3 different levels (Easy/Regular/Hardcore) I think; obviously some people enjoy it for the whole mega ramp super air 5430593284328 flip aspect but as someone who skates I enjoy it for the realism *MURDOC* 1 join the 11%
Fuzzknuckles
I can see the appeal for a real skater, definitely, but as with all of these things, has to be optional! I replayed through all of skate. a couple weekends back and it was amazing to see how familiar the actions were. I think it took me a week to nail everything the first time through, this time it was just a couple of sessions over a weekend and I'd done everything. Shame I couldn't get 3 working properly, I really got used to having that no-comply and hippy jump available. Might see if I can get it working later. It's kind of staggering to see EA turn their back on what was such a vibrant community, the guys on Skate Fluckit and the footage they were pulling off the game was just so impressive. Wonder if that lot are still about. Sombra and *MURDOC* 2 Signatures are dumb anyway.
Sombra
Definitely, not many people I know liked the hardcore mode of Skate 3 but I did. Wish I had a console still that could play the skate series Definitely my favourite games. I used to be registered on SkateFluckit and this other one called um LikeButter maybe a few years back, was a pretty solid community. This guy used to make really good realistic videos: Fuzzknuckles and *MURDOC* 2 join the 11%

slowhands111
I think one of the strong points of skate is the terrain and good physics, something which didn't exist in the Tony Hawk series, which I never played because I already hate the fast autokick, but the right stick control in skate could be simplified for important tricks like ollies, so that they are easier to control. The trickanalyser doesn't really help that much. https://www.engadget.com/gallery/skate-3-at-venice-beach-skate-park/#gallery=67343&slide=776183&index=
Cosmic Gypsy
To be honest, i loved Skate 3, the biggest problem with it in my view was the absolute awfulness of the atmosphere, everything from the city, to the traffic to the pedestrians looked faker than any game I've ever played. You may say, it's a skating game, that stuff doesn't matter, well when you're skating in a world with the worst graphics, people that have animations comparable to PS1 games and the blockiest, most simplistic cars ever who can stop and start in an instant from any speed, and both people and cars looking like they've been modeled by straight up 15 year old amateurs in some kind of school class, AI worse than most mobile releases from 6 years ago, the immersion kind of gets utterly destroyed. Don't even get me started on the city of Skate 3 either, looks like the fakest toy town to ever grace a computer game. (Every aspect of the games audio was tragic as well, apart from the skating sound effects.) If they were to fix the cheap, tacky, unacceptable quality of the world of Skate, it really would be a top notch game. Only thing i would ask after that is more tricks, and that gap to be fixed in between the landing of a trick and the next trick when the character won't respond as he's still in the middle of an animation. slowhands111
Skate 3 graphics aren't bad for an openworld game, compared to other console-games, although I don't like blurfilters. I wouldn't mind to play a game in comicstyle like Thrasher skate and destroy published by Rockstar, but this game would need new graphics without the typical wobbling polygons of PS1. Perhaps even the controls could be slightly improved by using the full analog functionality of a gamepad (analog triggerbuttons) for (n)ollies, fliptricks and pushing. Slasher
My biggest problem with Skate 3 was the map, just felt boring for the most part. You could find some gnarly and unique spots if you were creative but not many. The editing is hipster as sh*t but I love it, Shr3ddy and the L8 Media guys makes some of the best Skate 3 videos imo Daz and Ivan1997GTA
slowhands111
Skate 3 graphics aren't bad for an openworld game, compared to other console-games, Are you being serious? You could compare it with openworld games like GTA4 or Sleeping Dogs with massive blurfilters or bad framerates. But to be honest, I'm always jumping between skate1/2 and 3. Sometimes I hate the gray graphics of skate 1, then the bad light settings of skate2 or somewhat blurry graphics of skate3. I would prefer smaller well thought out levels with clean looking comic style like Trasher skate and destroy. I never liked the parkbuilding feature of skate 3, because of the bad graphics and framerate, although I saw some impressive videos: Edited December 24, 2016 by slowhands111
Daz
compared to what f*cking die hard for the ps1? Hey man, don't diss the best f*cking shooter ever made. I'll take my 2d paper John McClane over some battlefield 1 any day. Anyway, yeah, as mentioned, the biggest problem with 3 is the fact instead of having a fully connected open world like 1 and 2, the map was partitioned into 3 districts which you can't skate between, only fast travelled to. I also dislike the camera, that feels too close to the skater often cutting off tricks or your foot while pushing. Skate 1 was the overall classic, but 2 had its much needed improvements by getting off the board among others. 3 almost went back a step. I miss not having my custom logos and user created content on my skater. I also miss the skate 1 map packs I had for skate 2 which were awesome, such as community center, the school, etc. I wasn't a fan of the moving objects in 3. I like it in theory but you can't nail them down so I often felt I was knocking them over way more than using them. Also when playing online there is no movable objects, so often places looked like they had no ramps or rails because in the singleplayer it consisted too heavily on movable objects. But I will take anything at this point. Nice to have it backwards compatible. I just wish we had a new one. Even a re-release of 1 or 2 with all the updated tricks and abilities. Add new areas, clothing, boards, etc. Wouldn't need much else. I think I still loved Thrasher: Skate & Destroy a little more in a way. Something very satisfying about that game. Holding a trick and releasing it felt great, and the predetermined tricks made them look a lot better. You could never make any fs 180 or fs flip look right in skate. It is just an ollie or kickflip done while turning, not really looking at all like the actual trick. If we ever get anything similar again. I would love almost all tricks to have an option to have a custom preset to them. Even if I have to give up the flick it controls.
