What Will They Make Fun of Next in GTA 6?

In GTA 5, they made exaggerations of: Facebook, Twitter (not as much as attention as facebook/lifeinvader), Windows/Android/iPhone platforms, Cloud technology, hipsters, Yuppie flavored water, Call of Duty, Yoga, medical marijuana (medical cocaine) etc. All things that made tremendous waves since the release of GTA 4 in 2008.

But what has become more mainstream since 2013? And what will be made fun of in the next game?

Twitter seems to have gotten bigger and more prevalent so we'll probably be seeing more of "Bleeter". (You'll probably even have your own Bleeter account). I think Youtube and its stars like PewdiePie will be made fun of and have their own in game Youtube spoof site. (Hopefully they'll make fun of all the boring, cookie cutter, dubstep clickbait nerds who post GTA videos in some way). Maybe the whole "Gluten Free" subculture. The Walking Dead? They'll have the usual Left Wing vs. Right Wing but maybe on a national presidential election scale.

Also, it'll depend a lot on the city they choose next. So keep that in mind.

I don't know what else they'll have because I can't think of what has become more mainstream since 2013. Anybody else have ideas?

No disrespect but I don't give a f*ck about parodies, spoof, satire and all that bullsh*t right now. I had enough of that to last me a lifetime in V, and that was at the great expense of a great single player experience.

I'd rather they just go back to basics first. Rockstar need to concentrate on taking the series back to its essence by creating great, memorable, story-driven, single player experiences, and providing the features, content and material to achieve this.

Before anything else.

All these parodies of American media make for a great interactive game world and part of their realistic approach in the HD universe. However it's still in its infancy and the backdrop is they sacrificed great storytelling and single player experiences over these features instead. So while I do not necessarily say condemn these satirical impersonation and parodies, sometimes they must focus on what's most important first before these can be implemented. Because in reality, I don't think criminals give any sh*t about media or politics anyway, they only look after themselves and something R* should do.

Something they actually like, I hope.

I mean, you go to youtube, what are the best parodies? The fan made ones. Just look at DBZ abridged in the brief moments before it's struck down by copyright again. Just look at Yu-Gi-Oh the abridged series. Just look at stuff like Dark Swamp and Egoraptor's awesome series. You can't notice the things these abridged parodies notice unless you truly love the thing you're parodying.

And the people at rockstar games... well... they just don't like social media. If they did, the facebook parody would be more than "People stalk you on it and the CEO is a douche". The twitter parody would be more than... just kind of there. They also don't seem to like anybody in los angeles anywhere. Or gamers, or stoners, or anyone who doesn't steal from banks because the FBI is bullying them into doing it.

So really, what rockstar should do is parody something they do like. Something they do enjoy. Off the top of my head, hollywood movies, noire stories, cars. Just something that they actually like, instead of something they hate so much that they can't be arsed to do an in depth parody of it.

They should make fun of Gaming Developers that develop 'Freemium' "Online" Style MMO Games. Also they can make fun of their 'Cash Card' based Economy.

Oh wait...

Just some things gaining steam since 2013, off the top of my head:

Self-driving/autonomous cars, electric cars, the NRA, Donald Trump, nativists/rising xenophobia (already present in V), virtual reality gaming/oculus ("Mom, look, I'm playing with myself!"), mass shootings, male birth control, effects of climate change, virus pandemonium (ebola, zika virus, etc.), antibiotic-resistant bacteria aka "superbugs," anti-vaxxers, distrust of mainstream media, herbal/self-care remedies, new beverages with bogus claims like enhancing spiritual "energy levels" or something.

thanks for actually sticking to the topic and not going off on a rant about gameplay or storytelling in GTA 5. Nothing more annoying than starting a topic and having some idiot whining about how they don't care about it. Then don't comment if you don't care. Anyway...

Oh yeah, the whole "Red Pill" thing. That's definitely gaining steam. Extreme feminism or whatever it's called. Yeah, conspiracies and those idiots who believe there's some mass conspiracy to steal their guns. Good stuff. Is there anywhere you can read about how Rockstar comes up with these commercials and themes? Despite it looking fun, that's gotta be a very tough job to do. I'm guessing they use The Onion as inspiration as to what to write about?

If it's modern day, then definitely the election. I mean, it has to be. Plus, the president is almost never mentioned in the games. I bet most of the people know who the f*ck President Lawton is. Yeah, apparently he's the American president in the HD universe. Never even knew that until a few minutes ago.

I really hope they continue with more political and social stuff like the clueless, well-meaning leftie that calls "racist" at every opportunity at anyone that gives the slightest criticism of islam or is concerned about the influx of refugees. Also, 3rd wave feminists, social justice warriors, Black Lives Matters, nice people, male feminists, The Young Turks and many more. On the other side we can see some satire of the far right and how they're not much different from regressive leftie types that want to abolish free speech and want to censor you. Basically go hard on both sides, left and right as they have done in the past. There's a cool talk that Lazlow gives called

that goes in to it a bit about laughing at both sides.

Some self-referential comedy could be great too. For example, I remember playing Sleeping Dogs and I was in the hospital. I remember the doctor and the nurse conversing to one another about how there has been a rise in people getting knocked down lately, an obvious reference to the player mowing down pedestrians.

Would be nice if the game was set in 2002 or something and some protesting soccer moms were outside a shop protesting the sale of a game called "Villainy City" or something like that.

Also some self-deprecating comedy that aknowledges GTA/Rockstar's previous short comings or popular fan-criticisms. This will garner mostly immediate kudos and respect from fans, I imagine. They (maybe Packie) done it in V all ready, when I think someone mentioned how bored they were in Liberty City because all anyone wanted to do was play darts or go bowling. Genius.

I expect there will be some Jock Cranley and general fun-poking at the American election results, though by the time we see VI, we'll probably be deep in the next campaign trail. I also expect we'll see commentary on gun control, which is an increasingly important topic and could play an interesting role in the game. Perhaps a widespread ban on guns in the game could create the need for a black market, giving players a selection of underworld characters to get their weapons from - I think this could be pretty cool actually. More like the gun shops of IV, and the gun vans the friends would show up in. I always felt that made a bit more sense than walking into a shop and walking out with several millions dollars worth of heavy artillery and ammo.

Commentary on subjects like Gamergate, and the general dumbing down of the world both on and offline, probably. And I expect there may even be some commentary on pathetic complaining about Online that everyone on here has done for the last three years, too, in some subtle way or another.

It's hard to say because trends are dropping in and out of relevancy like never before. Big news stories don't tend to stick around like they used to and people have the attention spans of hungover schoolchildren. That in itself would make for a level of mockery, but there's a growing number of YouTube personalities that specialise in all kinds of niche areas. Some of the more inane ones seem like parodies already, bringing the whole process full circle. I think IV nailed it with their radio talk shows and how things were perceived in America at the time, though I speak as a player and an observer, not a US citizen.

Gun control is a massive one, but I'm thinking more of a social issue that reflects people's relaxing attitudes towards self identification. We've seen their take on gay club culture and feminism through the portrayals of exaggerated characters but I think there's potential in ripping into the culture of acceptance and tolerance. It's hard to pinpoint, especially because fads and trends don't have the staying power like they used to. With V being relatively recent, there were many stabs taking at the social media influence in such a vast and diverse setting like Los Angeles. I think if it's a current day time period, we'll see more of the same.

I hate the over-used satire in V. But if they were to continue, I'm certain it would make fun of the Trump candidacy somehow. Maybe having npc's with stereotypical traits of a Trump supporter. But then again, they already did the O'Neil brothers.

Personally, this is what I think would be the logical next step. The HD games have both had themes centred around money and the American Dream, IV was about an outsider trying to attain the Dream, V was more about the Dream itself, well I think VI should focus on the reality the Dream has on ordinary people, the stagnant cities where the American Dream has crumbled and decayed. For this and many other reasons, I see a mash up of Mid West cities, especially Chicago and Detroit, being perfect. Obviously, the "Chiraq" and "Trapping" scenes would be central themes.

As for points of satire, I feel the atmosphere in the US has darkened since V. We've got constant mass shootings, police brutality, racial tensions, far right popularity, lead in tap water, riots, gentrification, legal highs and countless other themes to run with. I'm happy to see plenty of satire and parody, as long as its a bit more subtle (And funny) than the childish attempts in V; but as a whole, I'd rather see Rockstar take on some darker topics of contemporary US than just Hipsters, Youtube and Facebok.

I'd prefer a past setting (preferably 70s or 80s,maybe 90s or even early 2000s),since I liked the humor in games like GTA VC and SA a lot.I don't know did R* have better writers back then or did past decades give them more material or maybe even a mix of both, but compared to humor in GTA 5,humor in older games was better in my opinion,in GTA 5 it feels too forced, over the top and immature.

Also,I don't think much has changed since 2013 (there's still hipsters, celebrities, reality shows, social networks, COD kids, left vs right politics, conspiracy theorists...) to make something entirely different from GTA 5 satire, and it would be boring to do mostly the same thing again, especially since it wasn't that good even the first time.Maybe if they try modern setting with a different city (like some people suggested Chicago or Detroit),they could have different themes and make fun of different things, but I'd still prefer 70s or 80s (not just for fresh themes, but in general).

Sh*t nobody thought of that !

I think it's a tad too late !

Back on topic, just keep most of that parody, satire, comical stuff out of the main narrative and confine it to TV, radio stations, advertisements, and public media.

It really is a shame RedDagger chose to edit out a huge chunk of Fuzzknuckles' earlier response to you in this thread, a response that went into thorough detail about how "parody, satire, comical stuff" has been a staple of the GTA series since, well, the beginning. And to think, it wasn't "confined" to "TV, radio stations, advertisements, and public media" all of these years, but played a pretty huge part in each of the respective games' narrative.

EH At general's moronic comment, THE SERIES IS A SATIRE OF AMERCIAN CULTURE! also, you state your opinion like it's a fact as far as I'm concerned GTA has never been a story driven game per se, the story in san Andreas was moronic, 2-bit thug steals jetpack for hippie? come on, and vice city was shorter than V Had inferior missions to V IMO and was just a very basic cliche mob tale hardly groundbreaking stuff if truth be told, I myself found the story in V more engaging & memorable than both IMO V also offers more side activities with 58 strangers & freaks and has a wider array of single player side content than the rest of the series.

I Fail to see how the single player in past games was so much better than what V Offered, and how the satire ruined YOUR experience.

There's a difference between the game making a joke about mass shooting and somebody reenacting a mass shooting in game themselves.
