New ban wave was released today

Seems like Rockstar is getting serious about cleaning up the PC version of GTAO. Usually huge ban waves are released during major updates. My cousin, who mods, told me today that they fixed the mod menu, shortly after using it he got banned. He made one of the posts on the support forum lol. I don't feel bad for him because I warned him before to stop but fools will be fools.

R* is still deluding themselves that they're winning this war against the hackers, cheaters, modders, and console script kiddies.

The fan base is seriously burned out on GTAO IMO. R* seriously needs to consider retiring GTA V --- and the franchise in general--for some 2-3 years before rolling out GTA VI. Assuming there WILL be a GTA VI that is.....

It doesn't matter what ban wave # this happens to be because idiots like your cousin will always find a way around R* hotfixes. It's only a matter of time before your cousin is back in business. And if they bust his balls with the 20 year ban, he'll probably wind up doing what most lifers do---buy a brand new version of the game. Then rinse and repeat.

edit: isn't it funny how there appears to be ZERO buzz about where GTA VI will be? Unlike the massive speculation about where GTA V was going to be located and who/what locations would be featured in it, the fan base seems completely indifferent to the 6th gen sequel of the franchise. I really hope the sewer that GTAO has devolved into doesn't end up affecting the development schedule on GTA VI :/

If they just got dedicated servers, would it be harder for people to mod?

Mildly disgruntled due to the lack of new and unique helicopters, as well as clothes, and certain issues, but yeah - I'm not burnt out.

For a game as old as it is now, the fact I'm still playing it and talking about it is impressive.

Why would people be excited for GTA III in 2016?

It would make it easier on Rockstars end to put in a more effective anti cheat system. But as with anything in the tech field, hackers are always going to find a way to get around a system.

And I'm very excited to see the next installment in the GTA series. With Microsoft planning to release their next gen system in 2017, the possibilities for GTA 6 are just absurd. Too many possibilities to even think about properly until we get more info about the capabilities of the next generation of consoles.

We're all still playing it, all us hardcore GTA fans because, like, what else you gonna do? We like modern, open world virtual simulators, and we like certain aspects of the game.

I've played every version of GTA single player since GTA III, no matter how old and repetitive it got, with no DLC, until the next one comes out, just because I like the world. But that doesn't mean that everything Rockstar does is right, or golden, or perfectly timed. All it means is that we know how incredibly long it takes to create a new open world of the quality of GTA IV or GTAV.

lmao, are you seriously suggesting that no one is tired from the broken mess Online tends to be at times and the lack of communication from R*?

with the amount of the latest DLC items being overpriced as sh*t with no new profitable gamemodes just permanently tags the game as a grind, you work for something so much more than owning it and enjoying it only to find out you either barely use it or don't really enjoy it at all, and the newest gamemode just tugs the fanbase apart because of how restricted it is.

I'll just make it clear to you how this latest update is actually killing the game, it basically promotes griefing and even if the reward for wasting a CEO's $100K+ merchandise is so significantly and disgustingly frugal, you're still being rewarded for ruining someone's day all with the ease of a homing launcher rocket.

People basically have to cheat the game by faking their lags just to reach an empty public lobby just to enjoy the update in peace with no worry of griefers considering how already hard it is to maintain your merchandise with the terminator enemies, Rockstar is so incompetent at making a gamemode enjoyable yet they still have the audacity of slapping a high price tag on everything, especially by locking longly requested community items like gun lockers behind a massive paywall when it can already be easily implemented in our Heist room.

This is just talking about consoles, the PC platform has the bigger tumor with hackers, they can literally siphon all of your precious cargo's value down a drain with the click of a single button to blow you up, it's so disgustingly easy to ruin everyone's day in this game that it almost seems to be the intentional goal of Rockstar these days, I'm not wearing any tinfoil hat, this is what I legitimately think Rockstar is trying to promote.

Rockstar is killing their own game with their indecisive and amateur actions, anyone who claims they aren't by not providing a decent counter-argument doesn't deserve a single shred of attention nor respect.

.

I have found the new update has brought the community togather when playing, Most CEOs are friendly and there's a massive influx of high levels playing again.

This update has far from killed the game.

Many players on PC these days are either constantly begging to find cheaters in vain or accusing legit players of cheating every time they get killed, it's such a nice change!

If they just got dedicated servers, would it be harder for people to mod?

if GTA was coded for dedicated servers and those servers had decent anti-cheats and they were updated often, yes, kinda... Depends :)

Technically dedicated servers would make it easier to mod but harder to cheat if they had an up to date anti-cheat.

Let the PC numbers speak for themself. Since release it's in Steams top 10 of most played games. And after each DLC it creeps up on that list: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/?l=eng

http://steamcharts.com/app/271590- peak players the last 30 days: 78k. And that's only on Steam, you can double that number if you add the RGSC version.

There is so much double standard sh*t in Rockstar did where you can't blow up someone's PVs without the risk of going into bad sport yet also on how they designed stuff like our luxury cars can be delivered to our garage after we ordered them yet we can't have our warehouses filled with product themselves after we order the goods as a CEO and only limited to 3 crates per run. This is bad supply lines indeed and cheaters will come back once the ban wave is finished thus they will come back destroying crates in just a single button..

Are you sure that a lot of these numbers aren't for single player for mods? People also tend to skip Online and just download the coop mod because that's much more fun.

Tbh, that's impossble to tell. All I know is after each DLC the numbers go way up. And since the DLC is for GTAO only - besides some cars and weapons - it's fairly safe to assume the majority of players actually do play GTAO.

If they just got dedicated servers, would it be harder for people to mod?

Yes.

In a server-client architecture, the client is solely responsible for:

- Simulating the game world using state information received from the dedicated server

- Sending player input to the server for processing.

This renders the worst abuses (taking control over other players, spawning objects and money into the world, invisible player, crash abuse) null and void because the hacker will only be modifying his local game state. The server will remain authoritative over the game world.

It will also protect against speed and teleportation hacking, because the best dedicated server models will process the player's move inputs in parallel to their client and issue corrections when the player is too far away from the server's expected position.

The two major exploits that a server-client architecture will not defend against are aimbotting and wallhacking, but since a lot of people play GTA:O with lockon settings (which is essentially an inbuilt aimbot) and the radar in GTA:O is so powerful as to emulate a wallhack (much to my annoyance), these are less important to the majority of the userbase.

In addition to all of this, the reliability and hit detection of dedicated servers will outperform consensus-based peer to peer by orders of magnitude.

So yes. If they provided dedicated servers, this would stop tomorrow. Unfortunately that only matters to those of us on PC, seeing as how they're relying on the PS4 and XB1 versions being secured by the console.

Can't R* just ban IP addresses

On all of the servers I've administrated, even the most stupid of people have been able to dodge IP bans. R* know it, too. Trying to keep cheaters out with IP bans is like trying to plug an aqueduct with a wine cork.

That's not to say that a more advanced system can't be used - R* have the tools in place to do it, on PC at least. Whether or not they will is anyone's guess.
