Buff the Savage

A whole lot to learn? No. Been playing since 2013.

I can tell GTA is basically all you play, I mean it would have to be with levels like that, and I hate to break it to you, but the game isn't that complicated.

The buzzard is decent, mainly because it's fast. It's actually way faster than it should be because it can keep up with jets.

My point is, that even when "used properly" the Savage falls short compared to other armed choppers in the game. Except maybe the Annihilator. Even the cargobob can take more of a beating.

A 2013 veteran player and your answer to off radar is to go passive in your tank? Yikes.

Well I guess you know everything then... Wait why did you start this post again? was it to get answers or to bitch and moan about an armed aircraft you can't get kills in? I'm a little confused now with all this bitching and moaning, if only there was a pinned topic for something like this...

My answer? No, but that is certainly the most annoying thing you can do since going off radar is kind of pathetic. Since this update I'm usually a CEO anyway, in which case I would most likely just go off radar myself and b-line it for the subway since tanks are made of craypaper now after all the kiddies cried about it for a year straight.

I made this post to try and figure out why the savage is so weak. Mainly it's armor. I use it primarily for missions, and it's just bad. I'm equally disappointed in the archaic A.I this game uses as well. But that's a slightly different complaint.

I really regret buying it over the buzzard. Sure I can afford both 10 times over, but it just feels so wasteful.

2013 player and you didn't already own a buzzard??? Seems odd as it was the only ownable weaponized aircraft at the time aside from the annihilator.

either way I'm done here, nothing left to say...

I know things in this game don't usually get improvements, they just get nerfed, but the savage is useless. There are far more cons to owning it than pros. I would really like to know the logic behind R*'s design decision when it comes to vehicles. The brickade is a re-skinned RV, the tank has practically no armor, and helicopters are made of cray paper.

Cons:

  • Slow. Easily chased down by god-mode robo cop aether-spawning choppers that suicide into you.
  • Front machine gun is useless and awkward to control. It's virtually impossible to kill anything with it unless you plow yourself into the ground, or flail around in the air
  • Armor is non-existent. Civilian town cars can take 10x the damage as this war machine if not more. A brainless A.I. from a level-1 mission underneath your chopper with a starter pistol is a death sentence.
  • Missiles in this game barely lock on, even with a full lock, rendering it's main selling point (that is the 0-sec cooldown for rockets) "meh" at best.
  • It's gigantic. Landing this anywhere besides perfectly flat surfaces is a nightmare.
  • Utterly useless in PvP. A brand new player with a sub-machine gun on a rooftop would kill you before you even knew where they are. But in reality, you're just going to get tagged with a homing launcher from a mile away.

Pros:

  • Looks kinda cool.

What do the new events have to do with anything?

Generally if someone is going to grief the crates, they'll use a jet

It's clearly obvious that the Savage needs an armor buff, so does the tank. I agree, but only a small armor buff.

No, it should be buffed because if you crash into a lamp post, and then get shot at by an AI with superhuman accuracy across the map with a 9mm will blow up your Grade A military flying tank.

What the f*ck is wrong with people? This thing is made out of paper, no matter if you can fly it or not. I dare say it is the weakest chopper and no, it's weapons do not make up for it. This thing should have the same armor as one of the armored VIP cars. Bullet sponge and one missile resistant. Maybe scrap the bulletproof windows. Due to it's slow turning rate and big size it still wouldn't be OP

Why give steroids to the savage?

As a owner of a sh*tty savage its unfair to give it steroids

Because every helicopter in gta online is a one missile shot helicopter KABOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!

Except for the valkyrie i think

The Savage absolutely needs an armour buff. That said, there are some misconceptions about the helicopter:

  • It isn't useless; I use it to destroy tanks, and other vehicles, all the time.

  • You can kill people who are on foot with it. If you're against decent players, you probably won't get much kills, but against the typical people who only use the homing launcher ... Staying hidden behind buildings will help you work around that.

That said, it definitely needs a considerable armour buff. Against decent players, it can barely get a kill or two without being made to smoke/getting destroyed. This is not even taking into account its use in missions, and other occasions where the terminator accuracy of the AI people will shred the poor guy in seconds.

Give the savage the cargobob's armor, maybe without bulletproof glass, there is no justification for being able to destroy a hind with 8 revolver shots...

that or just make it tank bullets, the least they could do is make it more useful against NPC's

Can we not talk about buffing any military vehicles before there are better controls on them?

While the Savage is underperforming, rendering it a more capable combat aircraft just exacerbates the problem of having powerful military vehicles available on demand with almost no cooldown and no penalties for them being destroyed.

It would be more than fine for the Savage to be a flying tank as has been suggested, with armor and homing launcher countermeasures, if it can't be called in every 2 minutes for chump change.

Could someone explain to me how you keep the Savage at a slight downward angle while strafing from behind a building? I've tried messing around with this but it always seems to bob around. The biggest problem I have is keeping it still while moving sideways, if that makes sense.

It'd be best if it could take one rocket, but then it's critically damaged and you could still escape, but at least give it some armor against guns, because it currently has less protection against those than cardboard...

Don't fly it in public lobbies and it'll save you the trouble of being killed all of the time while you're flying in it.

Meh, giving the Savage armour and countermeasures means I could at least take down some jets with it.

I can already get a few; if it was given a bit more power, then it could be a genuine threat to them.

This is kind of tricky to answer. Basically, auto stabilization means the helicopter is always trying to return to a "normal" position - i.e. completely level.

I try to be gentle on the controls, and only push down hard when i need to - that way, the auto stabilization/resistance doesn't push in until I do.

TL;DR: There's not much you can do. Try to be gentle with it though.

There's a big plus on the 0-sec cooldown rockets......suppression. Even if you're missing with every rocket, if your target stops, he's f***ed. And your target will stop eventually, and there's nothing he can do in the meantime. All your rockets that miss will be raining down behind the target vehicle. If he bails, he's landing in the middle of a firestorm!!

Tc79Z0j.gif

I know the excuse:

BALANCE

The helicopter has to have a weakness that makes it counterable against other helicopters and ground targets, or else it becomes overpowered. Realism be damned.

As it stands, it's an offensive attack helicopter meaning that you should strike with it and try your best to not get hit.

What a load of BS lol.

It has plenty of weaknesses. It is a large target. It is slow. It is clumsy. It has a very limited range on its cannon. It has a cannon that can't be pivoted/aimed properly. It is made of paper. It has no flares, etc.

I can use it as well as more or less anyone else here, so there's no point telling me to get better with it.

But I also know just how easy it is to take them down:

http://gtaforums.com/topic/852343-why-the-homing-launcher-is-unnecessary-for-helicopters/

It is not overpowered in any way whatsoever. It still wouldn't be if it was given this one strength (that it really ought to have).

Well a real Hind would be more or less invincible to anything but explosives and the really heavy weapons.

That would be going a little far though. I'd say a slightly stronger Cargobob, or halfway between a Cargobob and armoured Cuban 800.

So, it would survive a missile, maybe two if it's lucky. Can still be brought down fairly quickly by heavy guns like the minigun, but stuff like rifles/SMGs would be pretty ineffective against it.
