StangOne50
Everyday I have to open and close the door for about 15 minutes before the ps3 finally reads the disc. I have tons of memory and use a lens cleaning disc every couple months. Can anyone tell me what the problem is here and if there is anything I can do about it? Ps3 is about 2.5 years old-500gb. StangOne50
Probably that lens cleaning disc messed up your ps3 Really how so? Isnt that what it is for? I have cats and smoke so I thought it would be a good idea to help keep the ps3 clean and last longer. I dont use the disc too much and only started in the last year or so. Probably ran the disc less than 10 times, not as often as I may have made it sound, my bad. Edited June 16, 2016 by StangOne50
bloatedsack
That's how mine finally died, it wouldn't spin up anymore. If it doesn't get to speed, it won't read. Replace the drive or get ready to enjoy "next gen."

Cat hair can clog critical air vents which will cause overheating, and cigarette smoke contains nicotine which could short circuits if enough of it settles over time as the smoke has infiltrated the air vents. GTA3Rockstar
It's probably dying. My 360 had a tough time reading games and movies at the end of it's life (around the time the Xbox One came out). X-Seti
Normally it shows an error code?, if you get "an error occurred during the start operation" (FFFFFFFF) This points to the bad components on the Blu-Ray drive (or ribbon cable needs replacing - this fixed mine), however check if it can still read dvd/bd films?. You can get replacement parts from ebay. .
