Typhus
Given the setting, I'm going to take a guess and say that Mads Mikkelsen's character might well be a Nazi - and probably part of one of the weird occult fringe groups who seemed to flourish in Nazi Germany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thule_Society https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahnenerbe The tech would suggest a more futuristic setting. But a look at Kojima's Big Boss-era MGS games shows us that he isn't a big stickler for historical accuracy or allowing historical settings to hobble his love of gadgets and robots. Though, I am puzzled by the badge Del Toro wears in the trailer. United Cities of America. Is it a company? Or a hint that the game is set in an alternate universe? Typhus
One day everyone will realise that Kojima's ludicrous high-concept nonsense isn't enough to hide the fact that his games are largely repetitive chores to play. Con man or genius? Pre-MGS3, I'd say he was a genius. Look at the brilliance of Metal Gear Solid 2, he took a huge gamble, gave players the middle finger, and used that same disappointment to tell a story about the power of the computer age, and our own reaction to government authority. The "villain" is a freedom fighter who wants to liberate the people, and the "hero" a government stooge mindlessly trying to kill him because it's part of the "simulation/game". Yet fast forward to Snake Eater, and the antagonists simply repeat their own names, have zero personality, and don't advance the plot at all. Fast forward to The Phantom Pain, and Kojima f*cks over the entire narrative of the series just to give the player a wink and a nod. Frankly, as good as Death Stranding looks, Kojima is an egotist. And he should have to sing for his supper and prove he's not just going to rest on his laurels like he's been doing since 2001. ClaudeSpeed1911
I think the problem with Metal Gear is that he was bored of making them yet the fans wanted more (or maybe Konami). Its the reason MGS4 was a "loveletter" to the fans. The reason MGS was more gameplay is because he wanted doing different things. Its also why I consider Metal Gear Rising one of the best Metal Gears since It knew what it wanted to be and that is make a game about Raiden f*cking sh*t up with an entertaining plot (which makes fun of MGS4). f*cking Konami, should have made Rising 2 instead of making that zombies game. I think with this one the game might be good since he could make it as different as he wants but there being no one to challenge him at some design choices is what might break somethings. I still wish they made a WW2 Metal Gear with The Boss but its a little too late for that now. DarkSavageDeathlyCloud and Payne Killer

I can't tell yet, I've only seen two laughably pretentious trailers that tell us absolutely nothing other than that Norman Reedus is going to make Darryl faces, Del Toro shouldn't be acting in this and Mads is a cut rate Dolph Lundgren impersonator. This looks like it'll be an absolute bloody mess. He is far too caught up in making himself look mysterious and genius-like and faffing about with "high" concepts (yeah bruv, you would have to be high to think this teleporting baby sh*t is meaningful or interesting) to bother making his games as interesting or... y'know, actually fun to play as they could be, that they just end up lackluster. Spectacular for the initial hour of "wow, look, Hideo has made another game!" Then an hour later "f*ck this sh*t, I have literally been doing the same thing for an hour now and it's still not fun." Much like Suicide Squad was a film about Margot Robbie's arse, MGS V appeared to be a game about a balloon contraption. Other than that, from what I played of it, it was just another boring grrrrfest for Snake and all the other bullsh*t boring characters Kojima fans seem to love unquestionably. Given that we see tanks wth tentacles, dead WW2 soldiers attached to cords, weird oily stuff, magic babies and a dude wearing high tech gear it seems to be a parallel world that went terribly wrong. Leftist Bastard
It's a f*cking piss take by this point. Kojima cannot be let go to his own devices with no restrictions or someone to reign him in. When your cast members don't know what the story is about you've likely gone too far down the wanky auteur rabbit hole. Typhus

Typhus
I'd actually respect him more if he created a point-and-click style adventure in the manner of Snatcher and Policenauts. It's a fine genre, one Kojima clearly likes as a storytelling tool, and one I've always enjoyed. But the intentional vagueness is clearly starting to grate on people. We have no gameplay footage, no coherent details on the plot. Three trailers in and we still have no clue what the actual game will entail beyond his typical purple prose and excessive cutscenes. If I was Sony, I would be regretting giving this man such a long leash.
Jason
I think the problem is that the game is still ages away, full development started this year and pre-production began last year (they were scouting for an engine to use in January 2016 if memory serves). It'll be out in 2019 at the earliest and that's probably a kind estimate knowing Kojima, so it doesn't surprise me that they have no gameplay details or footage to show at all yet. Whether or not a developer should be hyping up and teasing a game this far from release is another thing entirely - looking at you CD Projekt Red... chronic lumbago
I have a sh*tty, ridiculously stupid idea about the plot. You play as an android/clone/artificially created copy of Darryl. The world has died by the hand of a mysterious shadow monster thing and it's babies. The earth is unhabitable, people die without proper protection and all minerals, air, basically anything you need in life is toxic. Only the clones can live and survive in this world. They run on baby batteries. Basically, when the world sh*t itself, people were f*cking like crazy and made babies because they knew they're going to die and there was no possible way of surviving for a fully grown human. The only option was the baby battery. Clones have to protect the bebes. Since they have no soul, they run on baby batteries. Without a battery, the clones have no emotions and no meaning in life and stop giving a f*ck. When they gain a battery, their tentacle scanner thingy activates and they connect with the human conscience of the baby. Suddenly they gain back their emotions and sh*t, knowing they have to protect life and find a way out of this mess. THE END Kojima/10 I know, I know. It's just that the whole explosion speech got me thinking. Iroquois

Leftist Bastard
Part of me wants the game to be genuinely divisive because people will see that when you're making games or any sort of product really it's not a simple good artist vs bad publisher story and that no restrictions is not necessarily a good thing. Sony are enjoying the good publicity that Kojima's giving them ATM after the Konami fiasco but it remains to be seen how their relationship forms. Dryspace
As someone who has only played one Hideo Kojima game--Metal Gear--and knows nothing about Kojima, here are my thoughts: * I have no idea what is going on here. * This seems like it might make a good movie. * The genre is obviously horror, correct? * Is Kojima known for ridiculously impractical devices like those back-sprouting lamps? * The presumed leader tells the others to be absolutely quiet...and yet the back-sprouting lamp is whirring away, and no one seems to care. * Why in the world are we cutting corners on hair rendering in 2017? Or 2016, or 2015--whenever these trailers were released. We're getting to where we can do impressive hair in real time on a consumer PC; it's childs-play to render a 100% realistic, chin-length head of hair offline now. Look at the first trailer posted: Not only is the hair overall unconvincing, when the guy goes over on his knees, his hair doesn't even react to gravity. It's as if it is moussed solid. * Does anyone know if this will be Sony exclusive like The Last of Us, or be ported to PC like The Phantom Pain? Cosmic Gypsy
Sorry but this games looks lamer each time something new is shown. He's gone from Metal Gear and Silent Hill to this? I can already tell this game is pompous with some lame as f*ck "deep meaning" no ones gonna give a sh*t about, and all this cinematic trailer bullsh*t is whats wrong with game trailers today, show me gameplay or f*ck off Hideo, seriously. I'd honestly rather see pre alpha glitched out animations taken from gameplay than nonsensical attention seeking purposely vague cinematics. Hopefully its better than the MGS series because apart from like 2 games (MGS1+3) it was a trainwreck and is overrated as hell.
