'In Game' Texting gone?

Is it just me or did everyone else lose the ability to text others players in their lobby via smart phone? I had a mic when I first bought my console but my cat chewed through the wires and since then I have grown accustomed to communicating via in game text. Mostly because it helps me role play but also because it was quick and convenient if you did not want to have to search for recent players or add a friend just to chat.

 

Oh and my automatic response to anyone who tells me to go to the "bit$# and moan" thread is that I am not complaining but rather asking a question. If it is gone so be it I will adapt as always because GTA has always been dear to my heart.

At a guess, I'd say maybe it's some kind of privacy and/or messaging settings that got changed?

 

Pretty sure you can still text. It will censor absolutely everything and tell you that every word in the English language is "a forbidden text", but it should still be there.

Ahhh the mini game of trying to figure out how to get away with saying things in GTA text without being told it's forbidden, also another fun part lol.

 

But I just went through a few lobbies and checked to see if I could message anyone with no success, I think it is just me as my friend messaged me last night but I could only reply through the Xbox Live Chat. Going to try to figure it out but any help greatly appreciated!

Its gone on my account on xb1 but I haven't looked at settings yet. I thought maybe people reported me for communications and it was removed? Very annoying though.

I went to settings, privacy tab and changed who can communicate with me via chat to "everyone" as it was set to "friends". Rebooting to see if that effects anything but yes it is a little annoying. Only gripe for me with the new update honestly.

 

edit - The change in settings worked! Sorry if I wasted space but posting this helped me brainstorm so thank you GTA forums!!!

I'd give up texting people in-game altogether anyway because of the ridiculous censoring. I've had so many messages rejected that I've given up, and send all messages through XBox or Smartglass, or your equivalent system on PS4 / PC.

I play since launch and I've never figured out a way how to send texts, but I've recently received offensive texts (censoerd) after inviting some randumbs to join me as bodyguards/associates (I've seen some before but on very rare occasions; everyone just uses chat).

Yeah I realized it was an internal problem with my privacy settings and fixed it. I may go back to using a mic but for now not having people know my voice and constantly wearing a mask online helps with the whole "vigilante do gooder" vibe I've been going for.

You just have to get real creative with your spelling and spacing lmao. I wonder who is in charge for deciding what is appropriate to text people in a game engulfed in drugs, sex, and violence though -____-

I prefer using PSN messaging because I can do that on a tablet with a real keyboard

You can email them using the in-game web browser too, took me 300 levels to learn that even though it's right on the home page. I like that better because it shows up in the recepients email section on their phone which is always empty.

The really frustrating thing is that after tortuously typing out a text message on the goddammed controller and screen keyboard, which takes for-f*cking-ever, then the damn game only rejects the messages after you hit send, and all that work is wasted. GRRRR !!!

 

Why don't they use their own version of the

from GTA IV, which would replace all the bad words with something like red text of innocuous words so that all that time isn't wasted.

 

Maybe they could even replace mean words with nice words so the recipient thinks he's getting a compliment. This would go a long way towards making GTA Online a happier place.

got an in game message that said i was the worst kind of player from some lag switching modded account douchebag. so its still there.

i dont know why he was even crying. so what if i blew up his ceo crap? dude has modded trillions. its not like i cost him anything.

 

also it doesnt matter if the players name is bjboy. if you use it in a message it triggers the offensive language warning. wouldnt want to use offensive language in a game where the main character rapes stuffed animals and eats food made from people.

Nope somehow my privacy settings changed from "everybody" to "friends", changing it back did the trick
