Identifying The Variables In Special Items (Discussion)

Recommended Posts

Many people, including me, have had trouble in receiving the call from our assistant to buy and sell a Special Item. I have created this thread to help see what makes Special Items spawn, as it seems to be completely random. There are many threads regarding this matter, but instead of discussing it, this one will try to find, from experimentation and discussion, what makes Special Items spawn.

In the spoiler below are posts collected from both threads that I find relevant to discovering and analyzing the variables needed to spawn a Special Item. More will be added if I find any.

i think buying just 2 crates have something that trigger the special item thing...

while filling my warehouse i only received 1 special item when i had around 57 and i had bought 2 crates by mistake.

now im filling my warehouse again, alternating between 3 crates and 2 crates and on my 10th order(2 crates) i received the call for a special item.

I have picket up special item twice. Here is a hint or my conclusion; u need at least ten players in same session. That was when it happen to me.

https://youtu.be/m7NINHRKaJE

Credit to CarimboHanky and Nerfgoth

From those two posts, we can propose two variables -

1. Amount of people in the lobby

2. Amount of crates purchased at a time

I have tried 2 - purchasing 1, 2 and 3 crates for both of my warehouses (medium and small). However, at the time, I wasn't aware of 1 - which was most likely my main reason for failure to receive the call. I'm not available at this time to try it, so if someone else could, that would be much appreciated.

Please discuss. :)

EDIT Judging from the posts below, it seems that it occurs at an interval of 50 crates.

It seems more lobby size dependent than anything. I've purchased 2's and 3's and got the call. I've sold 1 and got the call. The only way crate amount comes in is you can only by one crate of the "High Value" crates.

1. None. I have received calls with only myself in the lobby. Number of people in the lobby does not make a difference.

2. A variety of 1, 2 or 3. I certainly have received a call after a 3 crate pickup and I'm 99% sure I had one after a 1 crate pickup. I do not know about 2 crates.

I do not believe those two variables make any difference. The first certainly doesn't.

I had my first call when I was between 0 and 50 collections (I believe it was my 37th collection), second between 51 and 100 (somewhere around 80th) and third between 101 and 150 (115th collection).

First time was public session with 20ish people. Second was public session with nobody. Third was public session with 1 associate.

Take from that whatever you see fit.

I don't think lobby size has anything to do with it really. I was in a session with two others, and my friend and I each got special crates. Honestly I'm more inclined it's randomly generated or based on the amount of product you have bought and/or sold than outright lobby population.

I just picked up 1 in a empty lobby so player count has 0 to do with it.You get one every 40 crates give or take

That's what I'm thinking. I'll update when I get my next one (which I guess will be between 150 and 200).

That sucks since I have a large warehouse I plan to fill with rare items, that's gonna take a while!

I have received 3 special item calls during my time filling 2 large warehouse. I have yet to play this stuff in a populated public session and I have yet to sell any of my stock.

So far i've sold 7 small warehouses and i almost filled up my large warehouse, i have gotten a special item in my first small warehouse stocking and one for my large one yesterday. It seems like its a random drop.

I been doing one crate at a time in a public session alone or with a few friends .. I had 5 calls for Rare Special Items. I own 1 large warehouse. As soon as i collect a rare item, i immediately sell it... I been uploading these rare items on youtube.com/oobe

So far, i have been able to get 2 special items. The first one was a golden gun, the second was film tape. I got the calls to pick them up just after i completed a buy mission for one crate. Both times the servers had about 20 people in. I own one large warehouse and one small warehouse. I have never filled the large warehouse, and i have never completely filled the small warehouse.

I got the bloody call in an invite only session just after spawning at Madrazo's after completing Trash Talk, obviously couldn't do anything with it as you can't access the computer in an invite only session! The night before I had just made a small cargo sale before bed so I assumed that triggered the call, anyway sold another small shipment in a public to see if that would trigger it again & hung around idle for a while upon completion.... no call. I've definitely collected another 15 or so cargos since then and still no call. I wonder if you can only receive one call every 48(real) hours or something....? If we don't get some legit variables from R* im gonna go mental, most folks I know have had two or three special items by now!

I keep my large warehouse ALMOST full to capacity I wonder if that's an issue..?

I've said before, i seem to get a lot of these. My methods have been to fill up a small and large warehouse simultaneously (deliver to one then the other and repeat). I always seem to get two to three rare items by the time both warehouses are full.

I've only recived 79 crates but have recived 2 special items, so 50 crates can't be the trigger. If it helps any, BOTH times it was when I delivered the 12th crate out of 16 in my small warehouse, haven't had it trigger under any other circumstances yet

This was already said within my thread, please read bro.. You get the call after completing a specific amount of successful pick-ups. Usually between 20-40 consecutive in a large warehouse, and varies depending on the size of the warehouse you have. Don't always warp back to your office and start another mission on a different warehouse. Sometimes it takes her 2-3 min after to call.

Interval of 50 collections per Special Item is definitely not true. Just got my 4th Special Item (Rare Pocket Watch) and I only have 122 collections done.

In which case it seems totally random, which is a possibility. But we do know lobby size has nothing to do with it, neither does warehouse size nor collection size. Any session, any warehouse, any quantity of crates - if crates are needed at all (although I suspect they are).

Unless deliveries are also counted. How many successful sales have you made?

I own 2 large warehouses, have collected 260+ crates, and made 1 stock sale. I've only ever been called about 3 special items (in lobbies with as few as 3 people) and collected them all. Based on my data and the data that others have offered here, it's safe to conclude

...lobby size has nothing to do with it, neither does warehouse size nor collection size.

What I hadn't taken into consideration was the possibility of needing a particular number of collections to be completed consecutively.

Is this suggesting that, with a small warehouse, one might get the call after significantly shorter intervals? It would make sense to stimulate players that can't afford top-of-the-line property. Edited by Kyphosian

Seems random, but didn't happen until I had 50 creates in a warehouse - or possible 100 crates total, as I was filling two warehouses. After that it seems random, but thinking about it... I have bought and sold at least 250 crates, and maybe got 5 calls, 3 of which never materialized. My first one was probably after about 100 crate buys (rare hide), and second another 100 (golden minigun), which I kept missing out on but eventually got.

What doesn't seem to work is doing anything but going straight to your office. If you're not a VIP when you get the call, registering as a VIP appears to nullify it, same as switching sessions or selling crates first. But it seems to come back sooner if you miss it, and never came in during a buy or sell.

When you get the call, you better already be registered as VIP, and go straight to your office. My experience makes me guess it happens after about 100 crate buys.

to be honest I only have large warehouses, and only 1 of my crew mates have anything smaller and it's a Med. I'm just basing my statement from watching his and my pick ups, and it's been pretty consistent.

@TheFoot743 I think after my next stock sale I'll acquire a small warehouse to stress-test this hypothesis.

The call seems to be random. It is not due to lobby size as I have gotten calls in public lobbies by myself and in full lobbies. I have done around 80 - 90 completed pick up missions (mostly one crate at a time) and gotten FIVE calls, so 20 to 40 missions is not correct?

Of those five calls:

The first was in a public lobby by myself with only a small warehouse, very few missions done, it was a pocket watch that cost $30,000 and sold for $150,000.

The second call was in a full public lobby, happened as first logged in and immediately as I spawned into my apartment - which is right across the street from my office, I immediately went over and there was NO "RARE" ITEM available in the computer, just regular crates to buy. At that time I had two warehouses, a small and a medium and less than 40 crate pickups...

The third call was also in a public lobby with only about 6-8 people, once again I was just spawing into the garage of my apt and went immediately across the street to the office and there was NO ITEM available to buy, just regular crates!

The fourth call was after I was just logging on and spawned into an INVITE ONLY session! Since you cannot access SecuroServe in invite only that one was a waste of time too.... just for giggles, went online session but of course when you change sessions it is gone. I had bought my third warehouse a large... so now have three.... small, medium and large.

The fifth time, I was in a public session by myself, it had just dumped about 8 people out of the session as I completed a crate buy mission... had not exited the warehouse after the delivery cut scene, when I got the call, it was a film reel that cost $19,000 and sold for $95,000.

I have gotten two calls in a single day (real world day) so it is not a real world timer... I have played and collected multiple 3 crate missions in a row and NOT gotten a call... I have played single crate and two crate missions... I have mixed it up and it seems to make no difference. Three of the five calls were right after logging in and two were after playing for an extended time ... so no pattern there either... The first one came after delivering a crate to my warehouse, after I had left the warehouse but before I got around to going back to the office. Three came as I first spawned into the game. The fifth one was after delivering a single crate to my large warehouse, right after the cut scene while I was still in the warehouse. I am not sure what triggers it, so far it appears to be RANDOM.

But here are the "rare" items I have found, price to buy and selling price:

The "film reel" is the cheapest and the "pocket watch" is the most expensive I have found so far.

COST SELL ITEM

$19,000 $95,000 Film Reel

$21,000 $105,000 Rare Hide

$23,000 $115,000 Golden Minigun

$25,000 $125,000 Ornamental Egg

$27,000 $135,000 Large Diamond

$30,000 $150,000 Pocket Watch

It could also be attributed to how active you are as a CEO, regarding the purchasing and selling of goods. I have gotten the call twice now and both where at times when I was working cargo missions back to back. However if I slow down to hang out in my office and troll people from my window with taunts, I do not get the calls.

Just a theory but could hold some water.

edit - I also only own one small warehouse and therefor perhaps an an attempt to "equalize" the profit margin compared to those with larger warehouses, I might be getting the calls more often.

I usually play in empty lobbies and always buy 3 crates at a time.

I sold one full large warehouse and about 150 crates total.

I've gotten the call twice. Both times was in an empty lobby.

I've done many different cargo grabs and have my warehouse filled at 68/111 crates. I'm not sure what the issue is.

I have got a large warehouse. It is almost filled up for the third time now. As for special items:

I got a call when it was 2/3 full the first time. Unfortunately I was just coming out of a race into an invite session. When I switched to a public session the offer was gone. Three or four buy missions later I got the call again directly after a buy mission with two people in the session. Bought the antique pocket watch.

When the warehouse was about 1/2 full for the second time I got another call directly after a buy mission. Alone in session. Bought the golden minigun.

When the warehouse was about 1/2 full for the third time I got another call during a buy mission. Nothing there after that mission. At rougly 3/4 full the assistant called again with me alone in the session, directly after a buy mission. Bought the egg.

If I had to hazard a guess I would say it is completely random and can happen at any time in any session as long as you have a warehouse.

I filled a medium warehouse with only 41/42 and got the egg. Seems you only get them when your warehouse is almost maxed out. (At least for me)

The call seems to be random.

I'm inclined to agree based on all that wacky data. We now know that you can get the call both while in an invite-only session and while unregistered as a CEO, with both cases resulting in the inability to accept the offer.

COST SELL ITEM

$19,000 $95,000 Film Reel

$21,000 $105,000 Rare Hide

$23,000 $115,000Golden Minigun

$27,000 $135,000 Large Diamond

$30,000 $150,000 Pocket Watch

As of right now, it's pretty apparent that these special items have a fixed value (I made this same list independently), and I don't know of any items outside of these 6. Also, I've yet to hear of anyone getting the same item twice, even after clearing the special inventory from their warehouse(s).
